It's more likely the director who told her what to do. Perhaps Joe Davola was watching Season 4 before he started directing this episode.

see, i totally see a difference between the falls. Haley seems to have a longer lasting pain. i still think peyton's came and went, based on her facial expressions.

This is going to sound bitchy, and it's not my intention at all so I apologize in advance but...I was reading the last thread, and for a moment I felt I was on Chad's board instead of Hil's, and I don't go there for a reason. I'm just saying because this used to be my safe place.

^Just to answer your question, you don't just go sleep with another guy/girl or start a new relationship with someone else right after you broke up with someone. Not when this person means something to you, or at least you made them believe they do, because that is like saying in big capital letters "It's not a big deal, you mean nothing to me" whether it is the true or not. Regardless if people disagree to this, this is like common knowledge in relationships. It's why Rachel could never forgive Ross in Friends, for instance. The big deal was not that he cheated on her, they could've been broken up for that matter, what hurt her the most was the fact that he didn't wait a freaking night to go to bed with another girl and "replace" her. You may think it should not work this way, but it does. It's just something if you do to your ex, you'll more than likely hurt them for this reason. So unless you think Peyton deserved it and when she ended things with him she was saying he didn't mean anything to her(which if you do, I'll vehemently disagree), then that's why it wasn't ok for him to do that.

BTW, I don't think I'd be able to like her character like I do, had she not ended things with him back then.

They didn't even enter a relationship. So there was no break-up as such. The only thing that happened was Peyton rejected him even before she had a chance of starting a relationship with him. If you think after that a guy won't go and sleep around to shake off the hurt, you are sorely mistaken. I know, Peyton's all angel in your eyes, but I disagree with that. I just cannot support that decision of giving up Lucas to pacify Brooke. In no way. Maintaining relationships that have been going on for years is not a challenge. The real test is when you have to start a new one. If a friend is really your best-friend, they should be able to understand if you want to pursue someone you love. You should not be running after them to prove your own friendship. Not to mention best friends always come around with time. So as far as I'm concerned I'd much rather if she had tried to form some sort of relationship with Lucas instead of running away just so Brooke could get what she wanted. Brooke was clearly jealous. Jealous people usually don't want others to have what they can't have themselves and instead of calling her out on it, Peyton just succumbs to her wishes. Peyton is in many ways one of the most likeable character's on television for me, but I'm sorry. This pathetic excuse for not pursuing a relationship with Lucas and then getting upset with him for sleeping with another woman, I just can't get behind it. Lucas wasn't obliged to wait for her after she so ruthlessly ended something that hadn't even gone beyond the kisses that they were sneaking in behind Brooke's back. What I saw here was immense hurt for Lucas. Because Peyton made him feel like he had deliberately tried to damage her friendship with Brooke.

The problem for me with season 1 was for the sake of drama Lucas suddenly became passive. After making attempts to be with Peyton all season he gave up. Now I know he thinks he didn't deserve Peyton after the whole Nikki thing but he should have explained himself and then I'm fairly sure Peyton could have forgiven him a lot sooner. Like if he had just said that her choosing Brooke hurt him so badly that he went out and did something stupid and that basically she meant so much to him that it caused him to mentally collapse into a bout of stupidity, I think Peyton could have understood.

Also Peyton's guilt held a part of the blame too. Brooke was an awful friend to her and did things like try to put her back with Nathan and then jump Lucas the first chance she got. Yet Lucas gets accused of a betrayal and Peyton was never upset with Brooke for trying to get with someone she was so recently involved with. Brooke knew too, she knew to the point of scheming against them. For some reason Peyton has always given Brooke a pass on her bad behaviour but she held Lucas to a way higher standard. It seems like in s6 that has stopped, she just accepts Lucas no matter what.

Also I've always kind of backed Ross's take on things on Friends, at least to the point of saying Rachel should share the blame. A 'break' is a break from the relationship as in broken up. You can sugar coat it in Rachel's logic of confusion and say she was taking time but anybody knows that mostly taking a break means "go away we're done."

Then Ross while hurting because Rachel had broken up with him did something stupid and all of a sudden Ross is a cheater. The very fact Rachel and Ross were on a break means it wasn't cheating. Did Rachel have a right to be upset? Yes she did. Did she have a right to call him a cheat and act like Ross owed her a big apology? Not in my opinion. Basically Ross was dragged over the coals for that for years when Rachel created the problem with her indecision and her need to have a break. Ross made a mistake but so did Rachel. Just because she wanted a take back the next day doesn't make her right. That break could have been forever for all Ross knew and that was what he thought. He was hurt, got drunk and made a mistake. He was wrong to do it so soon, but then people who are hurt do stupid things and Rachel hurt him. They both had their share of blame in that.

Paul, I agree with you on the Ross/Rachel issue, but as far as the whole Peyton/Brooke/Lucas issue in Season 1, I stand by what I said above.
