Reminds me of 'Song for Whoever' by Beautiful South

I love you from the bottom, of my pencil case
I love you in the songs, I write and sing

Love you because, you put me in my rightful place
And I love the PRS cheques, that you bring

Cheap, never cheap
I'll sing you songs till you're asleep
When you've gone upstairs I'II creep
And write it all down

Oh Shirley, Oh Deborah, Oh Julie, Oh Jane
I wrote so many songs about you
I forget your name (I forget your name)
Jennifer, Alison, Phillipa, Sue, Deborah, Annabel, too
I forget your name
Jennifer, Alison, Phillipa, Sue, Deborah, Annabel, too
I forget your name

I love your from the bottom of my pencil case
I love the way you never ask me why
I love to write about each wrinkle on your face
And I love you till my fountain pen runs dry

Deep so deep, the number one I hope to reap
Depends upon the tears you weep, so cry, lovey cry, cry, cry, cry

Oh Cathy, Oh Alison, Oh Phillipa, Oh Sue
You made me so much money, I wrote this song for you
Jennifer, Alison, Phillipa, Sue, Deborah, Annabel, too
I wrote this song for you

So let me talk about Mary, a sad story
Turned her grief into glory
Late at night, by the typewriter light,
She ripped his ribbon to shreds

ETA: The last paragraph doesn't appear in the single version

I'm not going to try to connect his songs to anyone. It's easier to enjoy them if you don't try to figure out if he's singing about someone/something specifically. If Mayer hadn't said in an interview that he wrote Another Kind of Green after watching Murderball, and what it would be like before the accident...I don't think I would've come to that conclusion of what that song was about.

I quite liked the whole album, but it's not my favourite. He still works a lot better with a band behind him.

i remember hearing patty griffin saying the first love song she ever wrote was about her dog. i found that rather endearing though.

Wasn't Mandi about Barry Manilow's dog? It seems people love their dogs a lot. I certainly love my dog enough to write a song if I could. She's been a constant companion to me since I was 8.

I've only heard that on the movie Can't Hardly Wait. Barry looks like a lemming.

Just looked it up. Apparently it was not written about a dog. The writer of the song told that to a reporter so he would leave him alone. Something else I didn't know...the original name of the song was Brandy.

I watched the finale of Kathy Griffin's show and Barry Manilow made an appearance.

Lawd watching the S1 Veronica Mars finale not only was an epic of a finale but brought out the daddy issues in me. I do laugh at the fact that Keith went to go save V yet she ends up saving him LOL

Wasn't that Heavenly Day? I have a live version of the song and she even said it but I thought it was a joke lol

Looooved the finale. The episode before that was amazing too where V finds out about her "rape" via Leighton Meester . I had my VM marathon a couple weeks ago.

Season 1 of Veronica Mars is still hands down some of the best TV in my opinion. I'll rip those clips for you this weekend Lena.
