| Yes I took the same title I used for the thread on the couples board, sue me.  And reposting this since it was at the end of the last thread: So finally moving on to 4x02--LP in her room: "She broke up with you? Did she say why she broke up with you?" "She said she loved me, but she didn't miss me anymore. I don't know, she said it wasn't because of you." "Because of me?" "Our kiss in the library, it wasn't that, if that's true then there's something she's not telling me." Peyton is clearly upset in this scene and feeling like it's her fault that the break up happened. Lucas is so very matter-of-fact about it, he's not upset, he's just stating it like it is. This happened and this is how it happened, like he's talking about something like the weather. The only time his tone changes in this segement is when he brings up (for the millionth time) the kiss in the library. Because after he mentions the kiss his tone goes back to be very subdued. "You know what Lucas, uh...the night of Nathan and Haley's rehearsal dinner I said something to--" Then the lights go out which I find very symbolic. It's like the lights are on and what they're discussing is what just happened and everything that goes with the past. Then the lights go out. Lucas jokes about Brooke coming to kill them both (for what? he had to know something was different about the whole situation, about them. Just had to.) "It does this every once in a while, still kind of freaks me out." He knows that. In 313 when the power went out he was worried about Peyton, he knew that that freaked her out so I thought that was a nice, but subtle throwback. That night he claimed to love Brooke but was concerned with Peyton the entire night. Just shows who comes first in his mind and heart. "That's okay, I'm right here." Like he knows he brings her comfort. Like he did that day in the library. Like he said in his voiceover, that there's one person out there that will find you, the person that makes it all okay. He knows he's that for her because she's that for him. Like she said in 317, "I know how you are, I'm the same way." It's what binds them, connects them together. "Give me your hand."    I always found him taking her hand to be a very strange thing to do, there was no reason to do it. They weren't together and there wasn't a real reason to do it. Just an excuse to touch, to hold, to feel. I like how they smile at each other and there's this charged silence and a million words streaming out of their eyes. You can hear their breathing and the crickets chirping outside. "I'm going to get her back." Like he's doing it for her. Like it's important for her. He's going to fix it for her. I got the strong impression in s4 that that was the only reason he tried. I had hypothesized that before the season started and to me they just kept proving this was the way it was, over and over. "Lucas are you sure? I mean cause I know you're really hurt right now, but-" "You can't help who you love Peyton." And she never lets his hand go. What he says to her I always took to very LP thing, that you can't help who you love. With them it's never about what they say, it's all in what they do. As soon as he says that the lights flicker back on, them together, still holding hands, that distance in scenes in 401 gone, replaced by them getting closer together physically. The lights to me are symbolic of them coming out of the dark, hiding together in the dark, those feelings and bringing them into the light. Peyton's already there, her clothes are indicitive of that but Lucas' shirt is dark (the clothign that covers up his heart  ).  I'd like to take a moment to observe the background. I like that they're standing by the music, going along with the 401 voiceover again but between them is a large rose quartz which is the stone that is about love and the heart. It's used to bring love into someone's life, to bring it back, to open the heart up to it. And they have it very close to Lucas' heart, it's shining there, trying to get through the dark. "Do you know what time it is?" "Midnight." I like that just because it's like the clock is starting over, it's a new day, it's a new time. It's like they're going to start over the day, very symbolic of their story onwards. Leaving the past day behind to move on to the new one. "Do you know what that means?" "No." "It's officially Brooke's birthday." I remember Mark laughed at this point. That Lucas' didn't remember something that important. But you know Lucas remembers that the power going out freaks Peyton out. It's a more insignificant detail but one he remembers without prodding. It's a stark contrast and it shows instead of tells how he feels. He can say he loves one girl all he wants, but he never remembers, never tries, never goes out of his way for her like he does for the other. That is the difference in LP. __________________ i'll never let go. | |||
