I stumbled upon this article a few weeks ago and meant to post it here but never got around to doing it. I read back and I don't think this was posted.

Bartsch happened to play flag football with Chad Michael Murray, one the TV show's stars. And he mentioned his idea to help the little guys out - start a new Pop Warner football team for ages 11-14 and for kids age 15 if they meet a certain weight requirement.

"It's something I felt very strongly about," Bartsch said. "I watched my son play for Noble and I saw a lot of kids who didn't play much."

Murray liked the idea and pitched in $4,500 for the cause, picked the team name ("Red Raiders") and the team colors (red and black). Bartsch's 14-year-old son, Kit Bartsch, came up with a logo. That got the football rolling, so to speak. Phil Tabbiner and coach Phil Bothwell were instrumental in the team's development as well.

Kids interested in joining a Pop Warner team can show up 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at Ogden Park or log on to Home and register.
