Hilarie Burton - Bloodworth (Provinces of Night) #1: Hilarie as a heroin addict? Color us intrigued!

The movie, in which Hilarie is set to play a heroin addict, will be directed by Shane Taylor and produced by Jay McPhaul, and is based on a book of the same title by William Gay. Also among the confirmed/rumored cast: Dwight Yoakam, Val Kilmer, Hilary Duff, Pell James and Bruce McGill. Production started on April 15th and is set to wrap around May 19th.

Summary of the book:
The year is 1952, and E. F. Bloodworth has returned to his home--a forgotten corner of Tennessee--after twenty years of roaming. The wife he walked out on has withered and faded, his three sons are grown and angry. Warren is a womanizing alcoholic, Boyd is driven by jealousy to hunt down his wife's lover, and Brady puts hexes on his enemies from his mamma's porch. Only Fleming, the old man's grandson, treats him with the reverence his age commands, and sees past all the hatred to realize the way it can poison a man's soul. Fleming, a seventeen-year-old dreamer, interprets this seemingly stark world with the uncynical wit and wisdom of the young. When he encounters Raven Lee, a sloe-eyed beauty from a neighboring town, he slowly finds the courage to face this family curse.

It might be a little movie, but it’s attracted an all-star cast, including Kris Kristofferson (“Lone star,” “A Star is Born”) as E.F. Bloodworth, a once promising singer-songwriter and infamous legend in the small Tennessee town, and Val Kilmer (“Tombstone”) as Warren, the eldest Bloodworth brother, owner of a honky-tonk bar in Nashville and chaser of women – in this case, Hazel, an oft-unconscious junkie, played by Hilarie Burton (“One Tree Hill”).

I dont think we do but I get the feeling it is not massive as we can't even work out her characters name. Could be completely off base though. Maybe in her next blog she will mention how long she is filming for, that would give us a much better idea. I take it no one has read the book?

Well, I found this, which considering the things we know seems likely to be the nature of Hil's character.

As if there weren't enough players filling his pages, Gay has created a large cast of peripheral characters with complicated idiosyncrasies and warped agendas of their own.
