Hello! I’m Tasmia and I’m new to Fan Forum.

I am a student at the Georgia Institute of Technology taking an undergraduate class called Design of Online Communities taught by Dr. Eric Gilbert (gilbert@cc.gatech.edu). This class studies a multitude of topics including internet history, modern online communities, and community design principles. Anyone can view our class website at comp.social.gatech.edu/cs4472

For the class, our team must research an online community of our choosing through observations and interviews with users. Our group stumbled upon Fan Forum while researching possible online communities to study and we felt it would be a great fit for our project! Fan Forum seems like a great place to hang out--the users are active and dedicated, community members know each other personally and spend a lot of time together. We’re excited to hear from people about their experiences on Fan Forum.

Our project requires that we interview 12 community members. These interviewees will have to talk to one of us students over Skype or preferred voice chat, tell their Fan Forum story, and answer a few questions. Interviewees will be required to fill out an IRB consent form and provide their real name in order to participate, but their identities will be disguised in the final paper. It is also possible that the paper will be published.
