General Video Making Questions (if it moves, post it here) ICB thread #1

General Video FAQs:

What programs can I use to make fan videos?
Windows Movie Maker (should come with Windows)
Adobe Premiere
Ulead Video Editor
Video Converter Programs (wmv to mov, ect)

Where can I host large files for free?
Diino
MediaMax
MegaUpload

When I go to make a screencap all it gives me is a black image. What do I do?
Turn your video hardware accleration to full. Right click on desktop, go to Properties in grey menu. Go to the Settings tab. Click on Advanced button. Click on the Troubleshoot tab. Slide the bar all the way to the right and hit OK.

Hi. I was wondering if some of you could give me so basic info on making videos or really I guess more along the lines of seemlessly merge videos.

1) Of the programs listed that are free, which would you consider the easiest to use that still allows you to create nice looking videos?

2) I am basically wanting to create some vids of my fav ship for YouTube. If I am going to be ontaining the scenes from DVD, do I need to convert the scenes to something before using these programs or do they do it for you?

Obviously I am very much a newbie at this, but am usually quick to pick up new programs. Any feedback you can give would be helpful.

Thanks

-Leigh

the easiest to use is probably going to be windows movie maker. it's free and automatically installed in windows. wmm will also be able to open a lot of file types, but getting the files off of the dvd is it's own can of worms.

hey
I'm having trouble with WMM. I used to be able to make lots of vids and now I can't get it to work anymore.
When I make the video and want to watch it (before saving it on the computer) and at one point it stops so I have to press play again. And then when i try to save it on my computer it says that there's a problem and that it can't finish and that I should try again. But everytime I try again it says the same thing. So I think it's related to the video stoping in the middle

I don't know if I was very clear, but I hope someone can help me

How difficult do you think switching between Sony Vegas and Premiere Pro would be? I'm pretty experienced with SV, I made tons of videos with that before it decided to not work anymore. I'm trying out Premiere Pro now, and am just a little worried it's going to take a long time to learn.

the basis of most video editors is about the same, usually it's just getting used to where teh new stuff is. at least from my experience.

Yup, agreed. When I moved from Premiere Pro to Final Cut Studio I found the learning curve wasn't that steep.

The underlying basics of most editors are the same.
