Do you let the disk check finish? If you don't let it, it might not do another one afterwards.

If it keeps coming back, it can be the first sign of a dying hard drive. How old is the hard drive?

So advise him to cancel it and not let it finish?

No, advise him to let the check finish. It might not check again if he let it finish. Might be a one time thing but keeps coming back if it doesn't finish the checking.

it would also be a good idea to do a disk defrag. it's under the start menu in programs -> accessories -> system. it will take a LONG time, so have him do it before he goes to bed.

Okay, I think he does though.

He started one after supper last night and it was almost finished when I went to bed. He's not up yet this morning, so I don't know if he's noticed any difference.

Thanks to both of you for the advice.

Pammie - Nero can turn an AVI file into a DVD that will play in any normal DVD player.

How long is the AVI and what quality is it in, what screen size is it?

At that size you'll be battling to fit it on a CD and keep the quality, I might only go down to about 1Gb which is a big file to send over the internet, I'd suggest making a DVD using Nero on a PC (or Toast if you have a Mac) better quality.

But someone else might have a better suggestion.

Well....as long as its 1 gb or under I send it. I wanted to do both so I don't have to burn too Many copies for too many people and mail them all. It would be easier. I'm dling a trial of Nero now to see if it can help me at all.

Thanks.

Sorry for the double post but I was hoping this would get noticed.
Does anyone know if WinDVD BD for Vaio has the capture/quickclip feature/should have it? I can't figure it out on mine but it says in the little manual thingy that it has it!

Don't know Pammie, I'm more into Mac's. I do have a PC (and a diploma in IT) but limited experience and software on the PC.

would breaking it up into rar files and sending it that way be a good alternative or no?
-Pammie

P.S. It may be a trial....

Well you won't lose any quality that way that's for sure. There's just 1 thing bothering me right now. The file is 1.75GB, so why can't you just burn it on a DVD as a data file? You'll have plenty of space left on the dvd and the person can then open it with media player or whatever player they want. Unless they really want to watch it in a DVD player?
