Hey!

I've just installed Jasc Paint shop pro to make avatars but am having no luck making one. I wanted to make an animated one rather than a basic one. I have no idea what to do.

Can you help?

Meredith, one more suggestion for you. Have you cleared your temporary internet files? Sometimes if they are full, images for me don't appear correct online.

And groovy, oh wow, that's gonna take some extensive detail. PM me if this doesn't help ... ok? I use PSP8 and the associated Animation Shop. But first off, you cannot get them animated without Animation Shop, the companion software. You can save a non moving file as a .gif to be an avatar, but no motion without the new software. Once you get the new software, try your hand at the Animation Wizard. It makes life sooooooo simple in the beginning. I hope that helped.

I'd appreciate any help you could give. I'm having the same problem as Meridith it seems. I also have McAfee, but I've had it for a long while and it wasn't a problem before (unless an update did something?). I checked my User CP settings and I have the show avatars box checked. I also see the simple avatars, but not the custom ones.

Here's the strange thing though - in the avatar thread, I see the posted avatars just fine. It's only the ones on the left under the names that aren't showing up.

I am approaching my 500th post soon after a long time waiting. It'll be a shame if I don't get to see a new custom avatar. I'd also like to see others' avatars as well - I wouldn't want to accidentally be using the same as someone else's and not even know it.

Yes, my internet temporary files are cleaned regularly and have been recently. The only thing that hasn't been gotten rid of recently is my cookies, because they have my MSN game scores.

I just know that my hubby (compuer guru) said that often he has trouble with people seeing pictures or animated files they are downloading if their temp internet files are full.

Have your tried posting this on the Webmasters Board?

Maybe a computer oriented person over there can help you better. Sorry.

I have more than 500 posts and I want my own custom avatar how do I go about doing that?

I don't see the option for it in my change options thing.

Not a problem but just a question.

On threads when someone posts a bunch of avatars they made, another poster will snag a bunch if not all of them. And most of the time you'll see that poster use one of them if any of the ones they snagged. How is that fair when other posters want to snag one to use but it's already snagged by a poster that's not even using it? I guess I just don't understand that if a avatar is snagged, is it off limits to others?

No, you can still snag an avatar even if someone else has already said they snagged it. I do it all the time.

Besides, it give the maker a sense of pride when they see their works being used by lots of people. At least it does for me.

OK thanks. See I would snag one even if it were already snagged but I always use the ones I snag. What would irk me is when I see a poster snagging 5 or 6 avatars that are different variations of the same one.

Im desperate....could someone please tell me how to upload an avatar? because in my edit options I see no such an option! Im really confused right now!

JackersandJen, Avatars can be chosen in the User Options section of the drop down menu, the Edit Options page, scroll to the bottom. Once a member has reached 501 posts an option to upload a custom avatar from their computer will be added to their profile page. Avatars must be .gif images less than 10240 bytes in size. If you would like help making a custom avatar you can ask on the thread on the Webmaster Board for someone to make one for you, or you can learn how to make your own on the Fan Art Board.

And eruvue, yes, you can snag several avies and several people can use any one avie, unless you politely ask that they not use one you want to use first.
