Info Center - Avatar Help & Questions #2 (note: you need 101 posts to get an avatar!)

Avatars are the images under a member's username in their posts. The size limit for an avatar is 100 x 100 pixels and a maximum of 39,1 bytes. You need to have made 101 posts in order to add a custom made avatar. Once you have reached 101 posts, an option to upload a custom avatar from your computer will be added (it may take up to 24 hours for this to start) in your User CP page in the edit avatar section. When you upload a new avatar, it can take up to an hour for you or others to be able to see it. It's because custom avatars are only uploaded to one server initially and it takes time for it to be copied to the other server (whenever you connect to Fan Forum - TV Shows, Music, Movies, Female Celebrities, Male Celebrities, Spoilers, & More... now, you can end up on either of the two servers).

FAQ

Q: How do I add an avatar?
A: You have to have 101 posts to add an avatar. If you have 101 posts:
1. Go to 'USER CP'
2. Go to 'Edit Avatar'
3. Upload your avatar.
4. Click 'OK'.

Q: I have 101 posts but there's no option to add an avatar. What's the problem?
A: It can take up to 24 hours for the option to show up, but it will be there eventually.

Q: Where can I find avatars to use, if I can't/don't want to make them myself?
A: There are usually threads for avatars on each individual board, but you can also find some on the Icons, Mood Themes, and Avatars Thread (for ready made Avatars) or the Requests Thread (where you can Request a specific Avatar) on the Fan Art Board. On that board you'll also be able to find a Tutorials thread where you can find guidelines to help you make your own avatar.

Q: Do I have to give credit to the person who made the avatar?
A: It is common courtesy to credit the person who made the avatar you are using in your signature. It is not an actual rule, but most people do it any way.

Q: How big can my avatar be?
A: an avatar can be 100 x 100 pixels or 39.1 KB (whichever is smaller)

Q: The avatar I want to use is too big with regards to the file size that allows. Is there anything I can do?
A: Yes. You can try crunching it here or here. Simply save the avatar to your computer and upload it into the appropriate cruncher and it will provide a smaller file.

Q: Can I use a non-custom avatar before I have 101 posts?
A: Not at this time

Q: Is there anything that is not allowed in an avatar?
A: Avatars should be PG-13, just like the rest of the content on Fan Forum. This means no nudity or explicit violence. Also, if a word gets censored when you try to post it, you shouldn't use that word in an avatar either.

Q: What file types can my avatar be?
A:

will only accept the following file types:

.jpeg
.png
.gif

If you would like to use an avatar that is not one of the aforementioned three, try visiting the Image Converter at PictureResize to convert the image for free.

Hi Amy, if the promo pics have been published or aired in a trailer, then it's fine to use them in icons. If they're from filming pictures or stills, then no because they're spoilerish.

The "who's online" feature is disabled because of the strain it put on the servers.

In your user name? "unfaithfully" seems to be spelled correctly now.

I'm trying to use a GIF avatar but when I upload it, it just stays on text. Does that mean it's too big or something? I'm totally helpless when it comes to computers, btw.

First, you have to find an avatar/icon that is 100 x 100 pixels or 39.1 KB and save it. Once you've done that, go to your User CP with is in the top left corner of the

screen. On the left side you'll see a link that says 'edit avatar' and click that. You'll see a button that says "Browse...", click that and then select the avatar you want. Then click 'Save Changes' and everything should be saved!

It takes the software a little while to update the permissions on your account. You should definitely see the option for uploading an avatar now.
