OK, so I saw it last night at midnight and overall I was pleased with the film. My only main problem with it was that it seemed like one REALLY long episode versus a film. And the first movie was so wonderful because it felt like a movie while this did not - it was a punch of random cute scenes thrown together.

I thought Aidan in the film was just a plot device and I was pretty disappointed. I think it was clear that Aidan will ALWAYS love Carrie, but in the movie they didn't really show what Carrie did feel for Aidan. They made it seem like all she wanted from him was attention when she had loved Aidan very, very much.

Charlotte and Miranda are stand outs for me in the film, their scenes where they where they were drinking and confessing all they wanted to say was one of the best from the movie. Wish there was more Harry and Steve. And that nanny storyline was already done on FRIENDS - exactly :rotfl:

Carrie upset me a lot in the movies at time. There was one particular thing she said to Charlotte, and once you see the movie you'll know what I am talking about that just was OOC. Like all of sudden, she turned crazy. And then when she told Big, she seriously seemed to have lost it. She was just all over the place - and she is like my favorite character ever so it was weird for me to be kind of upset with her.

Big and Carrie were my favorite part of the film because they had the biggest storyline of the film, I suppose. The actually only storyline. I loved them in the beginning and all their adorable kisses and moments. We got hot stuff, and lovely moments...but I'm pissed we missed our dance! Grrrr, I was looking forward to that. But all is good for the two of them in the end ..though I was upset about the AC kiss because the only storyline didn't feel right.

And I wish Smith and Sam got back together, damn.

this is a terribly negative review, so i forewarn anyone who reads it...

let me tell you, i've never been so insulted by a film in all my life. it was nothing short of homophobic, racist, misogynistic and on and on and on. and carrie... how michael patrick king could write her as insulting, annoying, bitchy, cold, rude and nothing even remotely like her REAL character is beyond me. this series was once the epitome of women coming together and celebrating life and love, which this film easily erased that very notion in one fell swoop. and to think i hated the first film when i first saw it. seriously, i'd give anything to go back to something that was as depressing as that, so full of cliche life lessons, because at least then i'd be able to witness something with a heart. and yea, i get it's supposed to be fun and all, which from the trailers i thought it would be, but not even close. maybe if i entered the theater without a brain i would have had better luck. idk, but gosh, every single review that says sex is dead is right on. so sad to see one of my favorite brands turned into such a mockery of its former self.

what i liked, granted, i couldn't even help but hate aspects of what i did. s2s.

-homage to the series opening credits.
-anthony getting choked up saying his vows to stanford. <3
-steve and miranda being all made for each other. <3 ps, steve and his untied tie was hot!
-smith calling samantha!!!! HAWT! HAWT! HAWT! <3
-miranda seeing brady win first place! <3
-miranda and charlotte getting drunk. even though that scene was totally and completely ridiculous. honestly, neither of them have it hard, thus being a child of a single mother, i wanted to knock both of them out with a liquor bottle. it was still a nice gesture on miranda's part though, because, well, carrie was being such a mega effing bitch the whole movie, i had to wonder when the REAL friendship scenes were going to finally occur. i guess ONE isn't so bad.
-aiden!!! even though his character was basically an effing prop for bc! UGGGGH!!!! eff eff EFF NO! NONONO! aiden would never, ever kiss carrie. it goes against everything his character ever stood for, and just the fact that carrie broke his heart that way, i just don't believe aiden would do that to his wife. N.E.V.E.R!!!!!!!!! and yea, sarah jessica was looking particularly rough, thus aiden's hot comment made me lol for.ev.er! LOLOLOL!!!!
-ok, i did cry once during the film, and it was when the arabic women helped the girls hide out from the crowd of men. although, samantha brought that sht on herself, so please, no to her, honestly. although, it was nice to see an ounce of female unity in this film, which is something carrie, samantha, miranda and charlotte tend to always share, but in this film, not even close! BLECH!
-big's idea of what married life is is such perfection to me. i mean, who wouldn't want the person they've been chasing for so many years to finally be only their's? APPARENTLY NOT CARRIE! holy christ. what a freakin wench! thank god she said she was a nagging bitch too. srlsy, that is not the character i loved for so many years, and to see her like this, i'm just stunned, STUNNED, by what mpk did to her. and sarah, i don't know what her problem was, but she played carrie like a cold fish just the same. and to top it all off, she got a god damn diamond ring for cheating on her husband. wtf ever. yea, big put carrie through hell in the beginning of their relationship, but for her to act as stupid as she did, and then get a gift in the end, AHH! no. UGH! i swear to god, i kept murmuring to myself, effing bitch, effing bitch every.single.time carrie came on the screen. jesus! i can't get over how badly they ruined carrie's and big's relationship for me. i don't get it. all carrie ever wanted was big and the moment she has him, she needs sparkle. by the end of the film i would have shoved a firework down her throat if i could. BLAAAH!
-THANK GOD carrie left the money for guarau because that was the ONLY moment that salvaged her whole storyline for me. i wish we could have seen that played out too. like, guarau was the only heartwarming, meaningful part of their whole stupid trip.
-charlotte being able to share carrie's apartment was such an awe-worthy moment, i must admit. even though she has a nanny, psht. but please, her skirt wasn't all that. losah!
-penelope cruz, whom i don't even like as an actress was so magnetic in her one scene. i kept rooting for big to runaway with her, carrie was THAT bad.
-yea, i can't even remember what else i liked. noah mills was pretty hot though. so was max ryan. no one will ever beat jason lewis though! NO ONE! his topless scene was worth the eight bucks! guh! and really, it was nice to see smith still so honorable towards samantha. <3

I haven't seen it yet, but I usually spoil myself where BC are concerned to make sure I'm safe, lol, and yeah, I'm pretty disappointed with Aidan. He's still married with THREE children? I'm not so worried about a kiss as far as BC are concerned- that's trifles for their punching, pushing and pulling, affair having, other people marrying wedding over obsessing and altar leaving selves, lol, and at least it's not all Big's fault this time. But Aidan knows what this feels like, and he held himself up as someone who wouldn't behave like that. No, they didn't have sex, but how would he feel if his wife with his THREE children back at home found out he was macking on his ex-fiancee? I don't know, it seems like they're stuffing Aidan in this movie for shock and "What will Carrie do?!" value (when I could have told you she'd go straight back to Big like she always does) rather than him actually fitting. Why bring him in if it's going to compromise HIS happy ending?

On the other hand, I used to whine that they made Aidan too perfect at Carrie's expense, lol. So maybe I should be happy they tarnished his halo a little bit. But it doesn't sound like this does her any favors either, so it doesn't help me in that case.

Just saw the show today and loved it! Better than the first one. And Chris just keeps getting better looking. I don't know how they could ever top this one---

Cristofle 05-27-2010 10:21 PM

I did get a chance to see it, and I had a lot of fun overall! I get the criticisms, but I just can't take it that seriously, lol- it's just fun to see the girls as always. One review called this movie "girl porn" and that pretty much sums it up. Breakdowns:

-if there was one area where the stereotypes got really OTT with me, it was the wedding. WE GET IT. IT'S A GAY WEDDING. Anthony starting to cry as he said his vows was the saving grace- it should be taken seriously. That said, the look on Big's face when the guy hit on him was hilarious.
-I was glad it was never spun as Harry even being tempted by the nanny, other than being a guy like the rest of the guys and checking out her boobs. I was annoyed they made Charlotte so OTT with the suspicions, but it was somewhat saved in the drunk convo with "My first thought was 'I can't lose the nanny!'". Not enough Harry overall- I love Harry, he's my second favorite guy after Big.
-Kristin sold the hell out of that scene where Charlotte was crying in the closet, but I have one problem- not that she's ungrateful because she always wanted kids and now she's crying or anything, I think all parents have those moments. It's more, did they forget she's HAD a two year old, lol? Did Lily never cry during the Terrible Twos or something? That little girl who plays Lily is PRECIOUS- I just want to cuddle her.
-Miranda was just pure awesome in this movie. She was so excited, and such a good friend all around. I would have been PISSED had they not showed her at another law firm at the end, though- she always loved being a lawyer. Nice to give Miranda a break after the drama last movie.
-Magda's little cameos as Miranda mentioned quitting were too cute. More Magda!
-I don't have a whole lot to say about Samantha, but not because I didn't enjoy her- she's always the funny one. It's just that's pretty much her job in this movie, to be the funny one, lol. I did love her final freak-out in the street, so NYC, lol. And I liked her and Smith's phone call- that was perfect for them. I like that he's still so good to her, and appreciates her.
-I'm a religious studies major and I'm supersensitive to how Muslim women are portrayed in the media, and I really had to stamp it down particular with the fry scene, but I WAS glad they showed them to be real, funny, intelligent women towards the end.

Ahhhh, the BC drama.

-Big and Carrie's moments in the beginning were too cute- I defend the sparkle! Loved the moment before the wedding, the watching of the movie, and the showing off of the apartment. Very them.
-Yeah, Carrie WAS a little OTT in this one, lol. I thought the conflict was pretty much them, though- he's not the best gift-giver all the time (LOL, the duck purse) and he tends to go allllll the way in the direction she wasn't intending to try and fix the problem, therefore freaking her out. I liked the little moment in the bathroom, when he said he felt like he was disappointing her and Carrie hugged him and insisted he wasn't.
-I know what line to Charlotte you're talking about now- ouch. I'm glad Carrie at least apologized.
-My opinion about Aidan isn't much different than above- I'm disappointed in him. He acknowledged his wife knows about Carrie and has been uncomfortable about her being the one that got away, he has THREE kids, and yet he's the one to initiate the kiss and she has to break it off and leave. I don't know- I just didn't get any sign that if she hadn't stopped, he would have. We know why Carrie was feeling vulnerable and hungry for compliments, after her review on top of Big's 2-day plan- what led to Aidan acting like that?
-The names of his kids were hilarious, incidentally. So him.
-Weirdly, maybe my favorite scene was when Carrie told Big. Chris Noth was simply fabulous in that scene. As soon as Carrie said Aidan's name, Big knew, and Chris conveyed that without saying a word. SJP was good too (although even better in the following conversation with Charlotte- "What's so bad about a couch anyway?"), showing how desperate and really sorry Carrie was. Also, random, but GORGEOUS final shot of Chris as the camera pulled back to reveal him in his skyscraper office.
-Liked the resolution- I buy that Big would be hurt, and needle her a little bit, but not really want to punish her and he would never consider leaving her over a kiss.

I'm sure I'll think of other things during the discussion!

Titch22 05-28-2010 07:41 AM

I'm gonna review before I read anyone elses. So it won't colour what I say.

Personally I love it. It was fun and funny. The girls were great and it was great to have them back.

Yes Aiden was just a plot device but I never expected him to be anything else. I'm glad that Big and Carrie are ok. They still have so much chemistry and love between them and I've missed seeing them together.

Miranda and Charlottes conversation was the best part of the whole movie. It was so very real. As was Charlotte breaking down crying when the baby wouldn't stop crying. I have so been there.

Samantha was the same as always and I loved her for it. I'm glad they didn't change their minds about keeping her single.

The fashion was great and I loved the return of the newspaper print dress. It was always a fav which is why it was sad it was before included in a scene I can't/won't watch.

All in all a great movie. But please no more.

Upon my first look back at the movie, I actually liked it better than the first. But now, thinking about it clearly, I realize I only liked it better than the first because of Aiden.
And as for the bolded part of your post, I agree COMPLETELY. It was... just... ridiculously upsetting.
I, one, CANNOT believe that they used Aiden as a plot device. And two, while I was happy to see that he will always love Carrie, he wouldn't of kissed her while married... Just...
And what was even more upsetting was that that was Aiden's LAST scene. Otherwise, he was completely used as a prop for the Carrie/Big storyline and that just broke my heart. We got ZERO fallout from the Carrie/Aiden kiss whatsoever and it... just... :bawl:

Also - this movie accomplished virtually nothing but further cementing the death of Carrie/Aiden and the "solidity" of Carrie/Big. NO other characters had a progressive storyline at all. ugh. such a disappointment.

Saw the movie today and here are my thoughts...

Overall, I really liked it and thought it was a lot of fun as it was advertised. I like how we got drama in the first movie and comedy in this one. I think it'll be easier to say what my high points and low points were, so here goes:

Highs...
- All the Carrie and Big scenes  I just can't get enough of them together and their chemistry just radiates off the screen... even when they're not getting along.
- 80's flashbacks at the beginning of the movie
- Lots of great one liners, most of which I can't remember now but made me laugh my ass off in the theater
- Charlotte and Miranda's heart to heart
- Carrie wearing the newsprint dress and the limo scene
- Samantha shocking the locals in Abu Dhabi
- Carrie and Big working it out at the end, him giving her that amazing black diamond ring, and them laying on the couch watching the black and white movie
- Amazing outfits

Lows:
- Too much of the movie was in Abu Dhabi, it was fun but I wanted them back in NYC sooner.
- Cutting of the C/B dance at the wedding!! :(
- Almost pointless cameos from Aiden and Smith, nice to see them, but was it worth it for such little screen time?
- Carrie was a little TOO whiney about things with Big, I kinda agreed with Stanford when she complained about always staying in together on the couch.. "Be grateful for what you've got, remember when you couldn't even get him to spend the night"

I'll probably have more thoughts on the movie later, but that's it for now :)

.::Tati::. 05-28-2010 05:29 PM

I LOVED the movie!! I really think it was way better than the first one! All the drama between Carrie and Big was so real, loved all their scenes and what Carrie said about them to Charlotte.

Samantha was HILARIOUS and I really liked them at Abu Dhabi, it was way funnier then Mexico! Charlotte's "I don't know, I don't know, I don't know" was really funny! Loved her scenes with Miranda!

And it was really nice to see Aidan and I'm glad nothing much happened between him and Carrie ! I thought Carrie was a little too bitch in the movie, but I get her and I'm glad that her and Big are ok :)

Overall, a really fun and nice movie to watch! I'm so happy to see the girls again :D

Not going to read all the reviews cause I don't want to spoil myself, but all is good in CB land? At the end of the movie, they're together?

Nmorgan 05-29-2010 11:24 AM

Yep, everything is all good :)

I could care less about the reviews and I loved the movie. Honestly what's not to love? Seriously the wedding was hilarious. I loved all of the Carrie/Big scenes but I've been a shipper of them since the first season. Really enjoyed the trip as well. The movie was really funny.

courtneybangelcakes 05-29-2010 11:27 AM

Yep, in the end all is good for Carrie and Big

Cristofle 05-29-2010 11:49 AM

Yep, this is safe for CB fans.
