Story by Jenju Kohan
Teleplay by Darren Star
Directed by Susan Seidelman

'Where is the line between professional girlfriend and just plain professional?'

Carrie dates a French architect who leaves her a thousand dollars after they sleep together; a famous painter asks Charlotte if he can paint her unmentionable; Skipper goes fatal attraction on Miranda.

Lonely Smile 06-07-2006 08:31 PM

Now I can see Carrie being bothered with the architect leaving her $1,000, but think of all the ways she could spend that money! Hell, think of all the ways *I* could spend that money!

Not one of my favorite episodes. That italian girl or was she portuguese... was so annoying.

Lonely Smile 06-08-2006 12:23 AM

Yes, she definitely was annoying. And what was she? An international high-class hooker?

What was Samantha's storyline in this episode? I don't remember.

Emily 06-08-2006 04:30 AM

hmm I'm not exactly sure, im not too sure about much of this episode, did Carrie spend the money?? and on what?? Maybe i should rewatch this!

Lonely Smile 06-08-2006 11:05 AM

Carrie didn't spend the money in the episode, but she did invite Miranda/Samantha over to the hotel room, where they all ate breakfast together. I'd imagine that she spent the money on shoes, though ;)

Emily 06-09-2006 02:25 AM

 Yup you're probably right and most of the money went on shoes

Lonely Smile 06-09-2006 12:26 PM

I did think the whole storyline with Charlotte was kinda dumb, though.

Anabela 06-12-2006 02:41 AM

I liked Charlotte's storyline. It was a challenge for her. Imagine, someone so uptight as Char getting a proposal like that. :)

Lonely Smile 06-12-2006 11:58 AM

I'm still shocked that Charlotte even posed for him.

-diana- 06-13-2006 04:30 PM

Maybe the reason she choose to pose was because it wasn't a fully body "portrait"

Lonely Smile 06-13-2006 08:13 PM

You'd think the "full body portrait" wouldn't have been as embarassing as what she did expose.

Anabela 06-16-2006 08:29 AM

It would be, if it included what she did expose, plus her face. I think Charlotte only accepted to pose because nobody would never know it was her. She would only tell the people she trusted.

Exactly. This way she kept her anonymity. I don't think she would have posed if it showed her face. No way. Something Samantha would do, but not Charlotte.

Lonely Smile 06-16-2006 08:34 PM

Good point, Anabela. I never even thought about it that way.

I've rewatched and it wasn't much clearer the umpteenth time around. What was its objective? Is being a hooker synonymous with being powerful because as a prostitute one is commanding sexual authority? The whole "money is power, sex is power so money for sex is an exchange of power" comment from Samantha went completely over my head. I mean, I understand it literally but from an ethical point of view I'm not sure that it would work out exactly in that way.
The Charlotte tidbit was amusing. I think that it's interesting how she appeared a lot more relaxed in the earlier days than in even one season later. The artist's explanation of that female area being the centre of all that is powerful in the world took this episode down a more morally "acceptable" route (minus the gratuitous use of the C-Word) than the whole sex for money thing. Certainly not the greatest SATC episode but does raise a couple of interesting issues.

Yeah. She just reminded me of an older, louder and generally more obnoxious Debbie (Steve Brady's girlfriend in Season 6). Good thing she didn't appear again...EVER. Now if she were more like Susan-Sharon - who in my opinion wasn't half bad although she was louder than a french horn - she would have been invited back. Oh well, Amalita, see ya.

Emily 09-28-2006 11:26 AM

I totally understand what you mean Nikki, i didn't really take anything away from this episode, it was pretty unclear the whole point of this episode aside from just touching on the issues of 'money, power and sex'
