The showrunners decided on how the show would end in S2 and then they spent the next 7 seasons developing the characters in ways that predetermined ending wouldn't make sense. But instead of adjusting their ending like anyone with half a brain would have, the showrunners decided to erase seasons of character development to fit an ending that stopped making sense seasons ago.

There's a reason why the HIMYM is considered one of the worst finales of all time.

Forgot to add that about 90% was spent on a wedding for a couple who divorced 10 mins into the finale

They weren't in the earlier seasons, but in last 3 or 4 seasons they definitely were

Never I like when they're at each other's throat.

I can't enjoy a friendship when one of the two is really mean to the other (s4 = you'd be a terrible mother....and on and on) or when one (Rachel) is a bad influence on the other (again s4 with Brooke, the stealing test idea etc...).

I did enjoy their scenes in 4x14 & 4x15 & 4x21 though.
