I'm not sure who watches Friends, but I sort of compare it to Joey&Rachel (who I shipped by the way so everyone hold your comments.

But what I mean is that Joey and Rachel were BFF and they tried to change to romance and it didn't work... Because they weren't meant to be that way, and they had a peaceful break up and said they loved one another but they are too close of friends.

It's sort of how I view Sophia/James. It seems they were always so close, and probably that decided to become romantic because of their closeness but romance didn't work for them and they decided to be friends cause that worked better....
