It was just a rewrite to make both Peyton and Brooke be at equal standing. They could've done that nonsense without the rewrite of a tape.

It would've actually been better if they had James and Sophia film the B/N sex tape during season 1, that way it would've made sense. Seeing as how in that tape, Nathan hair looked as bad as his hair looked throughout season 4. lol That would've made things more realistic.

The fact it was in character for both of them stops being a joke imo and I can definitely think there were way worse rewrites in the show
