Time Out of Life Episode Discussion (02/16/05)

Grace (Christine Lahti) and Tom's (Bradley Cooper) relationship is exposed when a fellow professor catches them kissing in her office. Later in the evening, Peter (John Slattery) turns to Grace for advice when he finds out Courtney (Jessica Pare) is having sex with her boyfriend. Meanwhile, Jack's relationship with Katie (guest star Kate Mara ("Everwood") progresses and in an effort to become popular at school, Bobby (Logan Lerman) and Warren (Dean Collins) decide to have sleep over and come up with a shocking idea to make the evening memorable.

Edwin Hodge and Keri Lynn Pratt also star. Michael Katleman directed the episode written by Vanessa Taylor and Marc Guggenheim.

That sucks. At least you'll get to see it.

Anyway, Tom's playing dad for a night, and Grace and Peter are kissing. And more Katie! This should be good.......

SO good!

I'm glad that they finally addressed the affair. Yikes, I didn't think that Bobby would cheat on Courtney ever. Gosh, the future aspect was really good. I almost collapsed when Courtney said that Grace passed away.

Katie rules! Just a fact. I think her and Jack are really cute. He's probably never done the casual relationship thing, but they work really well together right now. I didn't see the Katie/Courtney kiss coming at all. I don't think the J/C kiss impacted either one of them as much as it was hyped up to. Missy was really ridiculous tonight...

Grace and Peter's scenes were very well done, and I'm glad the bad tension was broken. It's all coming back next week though...I screamed with joy when she dismissed his kiss. My poor heart.

Tom Wexler Graham is now my favorite chaperone. "Thomas. A word. Now." He and Grace so great together. She looks so sad next week...Don't break them up!

I swear to god, this ep gave me cartiac arrest!

OK, to start off: Grace dies. I have to go sob now.

Second: affair! Bobby!!!!!!! How could you?!?!

Third: Grace/Peter. OK, I love them indivdually, even a bit together, but sorry, my heart stays with T/G. So I was glad when she fended him off. Although, I think we can now safely say he's completely into her. Or drunk. Or stressed.

On a G/P friend note, I thought it was good that he could talk to her. It shows that they're good together. AS FRIENDS!

OK, my fav: TOM! Or, THOMAS!!!!!! He was wonderful. Taking the porn, making the bullies stay, and getting Bobby popular. Great guy. If they split my T/G up, I swear, the writers are biting the dust!!!!!

Promo--holy hell!!!!!!!! Poor Grace!!!!! Peter looks pissed........

Sorry I'm late. I was playing with my baby sister.

This episode was my favorite! Move aside Courtney... Katie is my new girl. She was out of this world tonight! Keeping Jack on his toes at all times. I love her even if she and Jack never have an "offical" relationship. She has won her place in my heart.

I would start a thread for Katie/Courtney but I think I'd be the only one there. That kiss was hot!

Tom was great tonight. Helping Bobby showing how he could be a family man. I hate to say it but I thought that a point was trying to be made on Tom's age. How he is kind of like a brother to Bobby.

Peter knew he made a mistake by ordering Courtney not to see Nate. He knew it but did it anyways. I feel so bad for him not being able to really relate to his daughters and having all this on his shoulders.

I know that Grace has been in the same situation but and I hate to sound sexist here but... with boys.. I expect them to handle things themselves. To through it without a lot of support. That "be a man" ideal.

I was liking Peter and Grace in this episode. I don't think that they will ever be together but they share a general connection and could be very good friends.

Bobby being cool and playing those boys.. Way to go Bobby! He didn't need Jack to teach him. He is starting to get good at the game of life by himself. He's growing up...

I am so glad that the writers brought up the affair again. So clever to throw it at us without any warning. It came out of nowhere. I loved that... I can't believe that Bobby would have an affair but we don't really know a lot about his relationship with Courtney in the future..

Grace dying.. I knew it was going to happen but I never expected it like this.. Again we are hit with another fact out of the blue with no warning. Also we are reminded that she dies after she loses Jack... To out live your child must be such a hard thing...

Ooh, funny thing I noticed. The guy who played BJ, the cute blonde sleepover dude, played Bart on Smallville...and when he and his friends walked past Bobby and Warren, he was talking about finding his dad's old issues of Flash Gordon. I just thought that was hilarious...

It's cool to have these crossover-like moments.

I didn't notice that, Janet.

I thought the episode was great!

Mike's right - Katie is the "it-girl" of the moment on J&B. She was great. And that kiss w/ Courtney ...

Missy - He He ... she got what was coming to her. Thank god!

Peter/Grace - They have good chemistry but, I like her with Tom right now. In the future, I think it could work. I mean he's a republican, and she's a democrat. Think of the banter.

Tom - I'm glad he helped Bobby out with the guys. That was nice of him, and something he didn't even have to butt in for. But, he's a nice guy and he did. And I cracked up when he was getting all intense. And the non-alcoholic beer, nice touch.

Bobby - I can't believe he got the porn film, and no dvd. Poor guy. His friend Warren was hilarious! Such the sidekick. Was it stated yet if Bobby's vice president was *ahem* a male or female. Hmmm? (if so, I totally forgot, )

All in all I loved this episode. This show helps me forget about the bad tv I watch during the week (7th Heaven musical) and everything else. This show better get renewed, it's too good to part with.

Lol sucha neat episode. Tom was just too cool. I was laughing so hard at Warren being a nerd and "drunk" from the beer. Peter and Grace aww their so funny and Peter what a nice dancer he was The dare thing was ehh it really didn't seem like Courtney or Jack felt anything when they kissed. I don't blame Peter for taking action with Courtney he's just concerned!

I think Courtney's old enough to make her own decisions, but she made a bad one, and Peter had to interfere. Although, his kid yells at him almost as much as Jack yells at Grace.

I don't think Peter had to go the route he did. Yes he needed to confront Courtney but forbidding her to see Nate? Too much.

I think the issue of why Bobby is cheating is an interesting one. Despite claims that he's a ladies man, there might be even more stuff behin his cheating on Courtney. Perhaps, he feels that he can never live up to her first love... JACK. I love the future stuff but sometimes I just wanna hear it from the horses mouth!

Grace dying was sad but hey she had to be old at that point. You can't be Prez unless you're like 44 so that would have made Grace in her 60s by the time Bobby is Prez.

I really love Katie and Jack. She's cool, she's spontaneous, she's pretty but not a 30 year old playing a teenager, I love it.

Oh and I don't know if anyone is weirded out but I think OldCourtney does not do Jessica Pare justice (in the looks department). Sorry it had to be said.

Count me in on the courtney/katie thread. Also, I now have the biggest girlcrush on Kate Mara, which I had before but it's just grown like tenfold.

I really liked this episode - okay, so you know I couldn't wait to hear more about the affair between Bobby and the VP, so I was very happy that it was mentioned. It was neat to see the way it was presented - I agree that when you hear something being spread around, it's hard to confront someone about a certain thing, but when stuck or forced to stay with said person, problems and resolutions can come out Like all of you, it's said to hear Grace died, just like when I heard Jack died. I completely agree that it must be difficult for a parent to outlive a child.

Let's see - it was very neat to see Tom as the chaperone and to see Bobby and Warren "cool" I'm hoping that the "cool" kids truly appreciate the two I love the placebo effect line

Grace and Peter were so cute - it was funny watching them dance I admit, I thought Peter called Grace down for another issue besides Courtney, but I liked that he went to her for advice. On that front, I'm still debating with myself if I liked or didn't like Peter's actions regarding Courtney. I liked that he's trying to be fatherly and protect her, but at the same time, I think Courtney is mature enough to handle her own issues. I think because Courtney went to get the Day After pill to protect herself from any consequences of having sex was huge and that Peter should take that into account. I don't like that Peter wants the relationship between Courtney and Nate to end, but at the same time, he doesn't want his 16 year old daughter having sex...urgh, when can I ever make up my mind?

Onto Jack and Katie. I really like them - it's neat to see Jack "testing" out a casual relationship and yes, I like seeing him flustered I think that because Katie is so laid back, it might rub off on Jack and make him less tense and dramatatic. Missy was too funny - she still likes Jack And where was Marcus???
