Episode Discussion Thread: Ep#104 - "The First Lady" (10.10.04)

Quote:
Episode #104 - "The First Lady" - Oct. 10, 2004

The future reveals a dark secret about the first lady. Back in the present, Jack (Matt Long) offers to escort a depressed Courtney (Jessica Paré) to her father's (John Slattery) work fundraiser leading to an unexpected confession and kiss. Meanwhile, much to the consternation of her sons, Grace (Christine Lahti) offers to let a homeless man stay at their house for a few days until she can find him a better place to live.

Logan Lerman, Edwin Hodge and Keri Lynn Pratt also star. David Petrarca directed the episode written by Jonathan Lisco.

It does. But, I cannot believe Grace would let a bum stay with them. That's just weird. Y'know?

But... I like the whole J/C thing. And the scandal in the future w/ Courtney.

About 2 Hours to Go!

Grace letting the bum stay with them sounds extreme, even for her, but I do think it'll be interesting to watch. I can't wait to see Jack & Bobby's reactions to it.

Also looking forward to learning more about Courtney.

It was pretty interesting tonight. Surprising about Courtney. I didn't expect it to be something like that. There was a lot of comedy tonight. ESP between Jack and Bobby. I loved that.

G: How do I look?
B: HOT!
J: Bobby! *with a disgusted look*

That was the best part. I see many similarities between Courtney and Peyton from One Tree Hill. I can only hope they don't go in the same direction. That would totally turn me off

All in all it was a good show. Jack kept it going for me though. He seems to hold a lot of the comedic relief. And did anyone catch the girls name that Bobby kissed?

Ciera - it started with an E, I think it was like Ellen or something.

I loved this episode - it had me laughing, and yet it was serious at points. My favorite part by far, was when Huck was hitting on Grace, and Bradley Cooper's character was all like "Who is that guy? Who let him in here?" Yes, hilarious.

I think it should also be said that Matt Long looks f'n amazing in a tuxedo. Yes, wow.

I'm really glad that we heard about Courtney's mom. I liked that scene between Courtney and Peter.

PuReDrEaMeR05 the name of the girl that kissed Bobby was Ellen.

I thought it was cool that Grace let the bum stay in the house, especially since she's known him for 15 years so it wasn't a guy that she just met that day. I actually felt really bad for him, so I was happy that he stayed in their house.

I was surprised to learn about Courtney's mom illness and that she carries the gene. I can see why Courtney shuts other people out because of it. I also like the Jack/Courtney scenes we got. I'm glad they're showing their friendship, and I did really like the kiss that they shared on her bed. Next week looks like it's going to be good as well, I can't wait.

I guess my good luck last week when I almost fell asleep for Smallville but was woken up. Was just the begining of bad. It's that always how it goes. I missed the episode tonight because I passed out I was so tired.

Please someone give me a detailed event of what happened. I'm going to check the website list later to see if I may be able to find a transcript.

another great episode. more comedic moments and the music was different. different but good.

i liked when Grace made that speech. showed that she is a mother and had compassion and even though it went against everything she belives in.

Bobby was great. telling the bum that they have a comp camera upstairs was so funny. and the Great Believer is a right nickname for him. i also loved the look he had on his face after the kiss.

Courtney was also great. liked the whole history of her family and the fact that she has the geen for mental illnes is intreasting.

Jack was good as usual.

i liked the whole reporter flashforward and the fact that she was played by Princess Leah...cant remember her name at the moment.

Carrie Fisher.

Yes, tonight was a great episode. I loved Bobby tonight. I'm moved by how much courage he has to do the things he does. And Im wondering where things are going to go wih him and E.

Jack was great as well. I loved his companionship w/ Courtney. And I was kind of taken back when I heard how Courtney's mother had killed herself. Truly, a sad moment. And I couldn't imagine being at a party like that, on the day of her mother's birthday.

Grace was a good friend tonight, detracting the attention off of Benedict, to congratulate the Gym. Very nice.

The bum was an intertesting distraction for tonights episode. It was a moving plotline and Im glad Bobby kept the poem and continued looking back at it for confidence.

I like that Missy was open enough to finally start trusting Jack. Too bad inevitably this girls heart is going to break in billions of ways. LOL. But thats the fun, I guess.

Next weeks looks interesting. Didn't think they would try putting C/M as friends. But, cannot wait to see how Jack will deal with that.

Subject: Sorry you missed it. It was good, and maybe theres a way you can catch it. Maybe download it? Reruns will probably be coming soon. Hope that helps.

This ep was pretty good. Grace wasn't that annoying and I'm starting to like Courtney. Where was Marcus?

I thought the bum storyline was a good way to underscore the whole mental health thread that was running through tonight's episode.

I gotta say, I'm kinda bummed that Cournay ends up marrying Bobby, though. I mean, it's always been pretty clear that it was gonna turn out that way. But, especially after the scene in her bedroom tonight, I kinda wish she'd married Jack. It was so sweet, how he got on the bed besides her and looked at her in the eyes and was genuine and open with her in a way that I can't say he is with anybody else.

Carrie Fisher was an inspired choice. She carried the perfect gravitas to portray that role. I love how they've been getting all these great actors to come in and do these remembrance/monologue scenes. And, considering the whole mental health thing, it was absolutely perfect to have Carrie Fisher be the thread to carry through the episode.

I don't know about downloading it. I've never downloaded an episode before and have no idea where to go. Plus I have Dial-Up so it might take a while. I'll more then likely have to catch a re-run.

From what everyone is saying it sounds like it was a great episode. I'm sorry I missed it. I'm going to tape next week's episode and watch it later because I have the Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars mini-series on Sci-Fi on at the same time. And nothing is going to keep me from watching that. Especially after the "to be continued" Series Finale that they left us with.

PuReDrEaMeR05 - My thoughts exactly - I loved the facial expressions - it added some much needed comedy

It was interesting to see how Jonas acted - I'm still getting over the fact that Bobby covered for him, despite the fact that he stole the TV - I would have been upset I liked how Bobby stood up to the girl (who's name I can't remember) - it was neat to see them transition from enemies to friends.

I think that Jack acted like a great friend when he accompanied Courtney to the party. I liked how their was conflict and then somewhat of a resolution with her father. It was a much needed conversation between the two.

Missy was funny - I started laughing when she started to get a little upset over Jack going out with Courtney, but then as soon as she saw someone else, she started a conversation with them right away - it was cute

No Marcus?! After a great few episodes and then nothing?!
