Is Bobby Dead in 2049?
Here's an interesting question, a wee bit of speculation brought on by several hints given in the first two episodes. I really think that Bobby is dead in 2049. The way I see it, there are several things that would suggest this.
1.) Future Courtney always speaks about him in the past tense. ie "Bobby was my life". Even the other people in the future do as well. Now, they are speaking of him in a less personal manner, so the past tense is more acceptable for of speech. Still, notice that Future Marcus refers to Bobby and Jack in the past tense in the same segment. 2.) Bobby's VP served 2041-2046 -- that makes no sense. Bobby's first term started in 2041 and his second in 2045. That means the VP started the second term with Bobby but then stopped being VP. That means one of two things -- she quit or was forced to resign; or Bobby died and she became President. Outside of the West Wing, a VP never quits or resigns mid term. 3.) It would draw a comparison to the Kennedys, having two young men of great talent and ambition die before their time. I strongly suspect we will see that Jack didn't die of natural causes. In any case, I'm a firm believer of the idea that Bobby is dead in 2049...what do others think? |

Hi Jeff.
I also believe that Bobby is dead 2049. Mainly because they always talked about him in the past tense. Especially with Courtney comment of "Bobby was her life." You noticed more points then I did about reason why he may be dead. I can see that your knowledge of Politics is going to come in handy around this board. |

It is an interesting question to wonder why or why not have him dead. From the writer's and producers standpoint, I'm not sure that I see a whole lot of reason to go either way. I'm assuming we'll see more about this in sweeps this year, and I'm quite excited to see why they've chosen to go this route.

This is exactly why we need a 2nd season, and 3rd and 4th and 5th and so on! J&B has so much depth to it. The writers have so many different opportunities with all of the characters lives and the directions they take.

So I'm not the only one who thought this!

Well look at what time I posted it. (actually it was 4:12am for me) When I got home I just decided to bump some older posts. We don't talk much about Bobby anymore and we probably should since the show is centered around him.

Yeah. But I tend to post on my favorite threads. (ie: T/G, G, J, T, P.) But yeah, we should pay Bobby some attention, even if I like him less and less as time goes on. But, heck, people change.
As for the orignal question, I do think Bobby is dead in 1949. Which depresses the crap out of me, since it means that all three of my favorite family members have kicked the bucket. Last edited by deathofacat; 04-02-2005 at 12:39 PM |

Do you mean 2049?!?!? I'm sorry that slip just really cracked me up. Bobby must have super powers to be born so early and look so young and live well into the 2000s. Love ya Cat!

Always glad to be funny. It was pretty amusing. It'll become a great inside joke. 1949.......a great year indeed.

The way the futureheads were talking in the finale, I think Bobby would be dead in 2049. Like, they didn't talk about him like he was still around. Maybe it wasn't mentioned because the people watching this in the future would already know whether or not their former president was still alive or not... so no reason to say it.
The way Future!Warren was talking about him was kind of an indicator too. __________________
