TIL JustMe2000 doesn't like the song this episode is named after. Since I am a Dirty Dancing fan girl I LOVE IT. My inner child demands that I post this:

I hope Jake and Katie do some dirty dancing of their own. I am going to miss those two so much. Why oh why couldn't my slacker stoner and pill popper be held back???

What a cliche. Eli and Claire together. Jake and Katie get back together. Marisol and Moe together.....and the same sex couple Fiona and Imogen breaks up after a series of contrivances.

How typical.

A prom episode means a fashion critique from me :p

All the male characters are dressed handsomely. Even Eli after he got rid of his Disney prince getup Connor was featured but he barely got a line or two in this eppy

Clare: loved the bodice of her dress. Not really feeling the feathery skirt--a purple skirt with black lace detailing would have looked lovely.

Alli: Looked nice but not prom material. I preferred her dress from "Why Can't This be Love?"

Jenna: best dressed of the night. Simple yet elegant

Fiona: her dress had a lot of charm and character to it--Alice in Wonderland (the Queen) meets Pretty Little Liars; something about it screams -A and it receives an A+ from me

Imogen: loving the pink and black. The necklace was a nice touch. Loved, loved, loved her teapot purse. it was so cute

Bianca: Peplum dresses are in at the moment and she looked amazing!

Marisol: there's something weird about it. I can't put my finger on it.

Katie: another best dressed of the night.

Onto the episode: I too had Drianca's reaction when Eli and Clare were named Prom King & Queen.

it sucks that Imogen had to stay behind but in a way I'm kinda glad she is staying since now we will get to know her as a person and not some romantic love interest to Fiona and Eli. her flunking some of her courses did seem out-of-character to me.

Absolutely no comment on Eclare. What I was fearing did not happen--that is all I'm going to say

I'm not sure what's with the Degrassi timeline--I think this is the Graduating Class of 2012. At the prom, "Gangnam Style" was playing. it first played on July 2012. It didn't hit North American airwaves until early September. Unless Degrassi has a time-travelling program, that shouldn't be on the playlist lol

I enjoyed tonights episode. There were moments that made me laugh out loud, roll my eyes and feel sad. I thought this class went out with a bang.

Clare's possible cancer shocked the most. I was not expecting that at all. That's something I'm looking forward to seeing next season.

As for Fiona/Imogen I'm sad this is most likely the last time we'll see Fiona. I'm hoping they have a plan with Imogen next season because of all the seniors I wish would have stayed she wasn't at the top of the list.

A lot of the feels I got from this episode were from the Marisol/Jake/Mo/Katie trio. Mo puking on Marisol's shoes was hilarious along with the Time Of My Life sing along. Mo and Jake were the highlight for me and I'm extra sad they are gone because they weren't on very long.

Also loved that Owen mentioned Anya and Alli/Jenna being brutually honest about what the first time for most people is like.

But yeah it was the best one hour special they've done in a long time.

Well, it was better than Degrassi Las Vegas, I'll give it that. It wasn't bad, though just kinda there.

A-Plot. And the time-honored tradition of Degrassi couples breaking up by graduation continues. I like them, it just would not have worked out really. Imogen has her father to worry about, and it probably took her a lot just to get comfortable around Fiona. No way she's going to want to travel and constantly meet new people and just follow Fiona around. All the stuff in the epi with them was cheesy, but not bad so I'll give it a pass.

B-Plot. So, Clare may have cancer. Didn't see that one coming. Standard EClare stuff. I did like Jenna and Alli downplaying just how "special" the first time is supposed to be, we need a bit more realism about that. Nothing more to say about this, except I liked Dallas think Clare having cancer was a joke.

C-Plot. I liked this more than the others. Jake and Katie was left hanging, which I liked so the audience can decide. Mo and Marisol were cute and the graduation song, while cheesy was also cute and sweet. I guess they had to title drop "Time of Your Life" in there somewhere. It does make sense Mo would want Jake to be a close friend, he did latch onto Sav pretty hard and I think he never has had a close male friend.

So yeah, that was cute.

Altogether, this was a pretty unsatisfying episode, but up close, there was a couple of things I liked about this episode. Still thought it was better than the Vegas special.
I never knew Imogen was in danger of getting held back, even if I did pay attention to the rumors. A plot, or even a line, a few episodes ago would've been nice. The Fiona stuff was irritating but sweet, especially the airport speech. If you are clingy to the girl who kissed her brother out of jealousy, you need to work on yourself. I think this was like when Paige and Alex broke up back in High Fidelity, but Palex was actually different from each other, whereas over here, it wasn't that big of an issue. It was kind of rude of Imogen to break up with Fiona at her graduation, but I think it was a "rip the band aid" kind of deal. My inner cynic thinks that Fimogen would've break up by a year or two later, to be honest. Do you think we'll see Fiona next season?

The Mo/Marisol plot was sweet. I thought it was weird of Jake to not want to go to prom. Did he even have a reason? A lot of people don't go to prom, but Jake still had friends going, and I thought him and Katie were on better terms. I guess it was nice to see Owen one last time, even if it was drunk. The vomiting scene made me cringe more than laugh. The graduation dance was so cute, but not as cute as Mo and Jake's bromance speech. I didn't know what they meant by it at first, when I read the plot description, so I'm glad it turned out well.

The Eclare plot was unfortunate. I'll save most of it for the Anti thread. I thought it was rude for Eli to not even apologize to Clare but act entitled to her. I didn't like how Clare and Eli had sex, not only because of the way he treated her, but also because how she wanted to practice abstinence at first (I think?). I liked Alli and Jenna's speech, but I don't think they mentioned anything about protection. I'm really interested by Clare's health, although they tried overdoing it with the foreshadowing. I laughed at Drianca's reaction when they announced the prom court results. I still don't get how they decided so many things for prom last minute, but I guess that's how they do it in Canada.

I wish the producers would stop trying to out do themselves every finale, but I guess this was better than last summer, when Stephen Stohn said he cried. Remember how low key yet strong and memorable Jagged Little Pill was?

I didn't buy Fiona and Imogen breaking up. They had not done a good job of showing any fissures and they failed again last night to do so. Imogen's behavior for the first 3/4 of the episode was that of a person who would do anything not to lose her girlfriend.

Yet if there was someone who could stay, Imogen was at the top of my list. Here's why. They have been setting her up for quite awhile now as a tv first. And judging by the coming soon previews, they are going to go there. A truly revolutionary character for television is always exciting.

Just finally got a chance to watch this.

A PLOT: I really didn't like the Imogen/Fiona plot at first but by the end I enjoyed how it turned out. I assume Imogen has been so busy taking care of her father and spending time with Fiona that she's been slacking off at school, but yeah, that was definitely something that should have been foreshadowed more. Imogen was my #3 choice for Senior to keep around (behind Jake and Mo; Bianca was #4, though the only reason she isn't higher is because I would have hated to have seen her not succeed), so I don't mind her staying at Degrassi, but the way they got there was weird.

The drama with the Italian designer and Imogen's deception was just an unnecessary way to dial up the tension already boiling beneath the surface. The only thing I liked about this particular aspect of the plot was that we got to see the devious side of Imogen again, the side that took Eli's pills and planted them in Clare's backpack way back in Season 11. It's kind of nice to know that part of her didn't just vanish.

Also, I could not care less about the drama with Mama Coyne--it was a dumb plot to begin with and they barely began to even try to explore what it meant to Fiona--so I didn't need to see the no doubt boring legal specifics of how everything was fixed up, but it was annoying how they just brought back Mama Coyne and Fiona's endless money and nepotism to instantly fix her life and completely undo what little bit of independence Fiona had formed over the season. I suppose that's a slight overstatement, but her return was a complete Dues Ex Machina.

Also, I know that getting actors to return can be tricky, but I hate how they didn't even bother to mention why Mr. Coyne, Declan, and Holly J didn't bother to come to Fiona's graduation. It's like they don't even care about Fiona. They even gave us that Declan shout-out when Holly J was in the hospital--hey, remember when Fiona and Declan were introduced as these super-close twin siblings? Yeah, it's nice to know how much more Declan cares about everybody else than his sister.

That said, I did like the ending. I liked how Fiona's speech helped Imogen to realize the chance she now had and the differences between her and Fiona, and I liked that Imogen decided to end things instead of making herself miserable to please Fiona like she would have in the past when she was Eli's plaything.

C-PLOT: Jake and Mo had the best plot. Marisol's hard-edges have been softened considerably this season with really no explanation other than she was preoccupied by Mo, so I liked her acknowledge that she was still a schemer (though I have to say Marisol, "planned" romantic moments rarely end up actually being romantic, there's no spontaneity). She probably cared way too much about Jake and Mo's friendship, but hey, I'm just happy that the episode spent so much time focusing on an actual friendship in the midst of all this romantic crap. It's refreshing, and Jake and Mo was a great friendship to focus on. It's also a nice send off for Mo and Marisol, since I assume we'll never see them again.

(Katie and Jake still have siblings on the show, so I hope we'll see them again. Since Jake is probably not going to college, can we PLEASE have him back in a reoccuring role next year?)

(also, this probably applies more to Clare's section, but it bugs me that she was so wrapped up in Eli that she never even acknowledged her step-brother's graduation. I don't need the show to remind us of their weird step-sibling romance, but they're still brother sister, how about some love?)

B-PLOT: I'd have liked this plot a lot more had it happened at the end of Season 12 Part 1, when I still liked Eli and Clare together. Eli's been such a jerk recently that I just can't support them anymore. Eli only apologizes cause he knows he screwed up and he misses Clare, but he doesn't realize why what he did was wrong at all. It's kind of disgusting cause he really did treat Clare like crap.

Clare having sex with Eli doesn't bother me too much (and I loved Alli and Jenna letting her know sex isn't usually good on the first time, though I think they were a little off with the "two minute" thing, since Eli wasn't a virgin, just Clare). The thing is, the story with Jake back in Season 11 convinced me that Clare could decide to have sex in the right situation, it just makes me a little sad that they decided to take that route with her at all. I liked the Clare from Season 10 who had taken an abstinence pledge but didn't judge others for having sex--Clare showed that having sex or not having sex is a personal decision and made it fine either way, and I think the show loses something by having Clare become sexual too. It's nice to have a character who has decided not to have sex for one reason or another, if only because those kids do exist and I'm sure they could use the representation too.

I breathed such a huge sigh of relief when they revealed that Fiona rigged the ballot. No way could Clare and Eli have won prom king and queen on their own. CLARE ISN'T EVEN A SENIOR, HOW WOULD SHE HAVE BEEN ELIGIBLE?!

My first thought was that Prom King/Queen should have been Drew and Bianca (they sure expected to win), but I don't think Bianca is popular enough to win. Honestly, Mo and Marisol probably should have won had it been a fair contest. Mo is a football player and lead singer in the school's most popular rock band, and since Katie's fall from grace, Marisol is probably the most popular senior girl in school.

Wow, I just realized that Mo and Marisol are the least featured power-couple in Degrassi history. Boo.

I thought that the Fiona/Imogen break up was interesting and unexpected. I like how they didn't break up because of a fight, but because they were too codependent (Or at least that's how I'm seeing it) and they needed to be apart. Seeing as it was Fiona , who went from Declan to Holly J to Imogen, and Imogen, who never really had a chance to shine on her own, the codependency thing made a lot of sense. I'm hoping that this will give Imogen a chance to be her own character.

I agree with Pivitor about the Fiona legal drama being unneeded. While it was probably there to tell viewers not to worry about Fiona's legal problems, it only made me worry about her independence issues.

I enjoyed Jake and Mo's plot. I like how the show acknowledged that their friendship wasn't exactly defined so Mo wanting it to be defined made sense. Especially since Jake has never been that good with showing his emotions.

I didn't really care for Eli and Clare's plot. I don't have much of an analysis on it, though.

My thoughts on the episode...

A Plot - Okay, so for starters can I just say that I’m glad that this storyline was told from Imogen’s POV for once? A lot of Fimogen’s plots were always Fiona-centric, so this was a nice change. Imogen sticking around was a nice surprise for me (even though I’ve known for about a week, ever since the promo and promo pictures came out) because I still think there’s a lot they can do with her character. Now, about the episode. I think it’s interesting how this storyline seemed to parallel Fiona’s storyline in “Take A Bow” wherein FIona was upset about being left behind while all of her friends graduated, causing her to relapse as a result. In this episode, we have Imogen upset that she’s gonna be alone next year, without Fiona. I’ve said this before, but I feel that, like Fiona when it came to her relationships with Declan and Holly J, Imogen seems to have some serious dependency issues. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen it either. We’ve seen her latch onto not only Eli, but Bianca as well, and then Fiona in 11.5. I think Imogen is a very lonely girl and outside of the few friends she does have, she has no one. She’s a very eccentric person but at the same time, it comes off as her being the “weird girl” and puts people off. So you have Imogen stuck in this position where she knows she’ll be completely alone next year, and she takes drastic measures to ensure that she and Fiona will at least stay within visiting distance.

And what she does is absolutely terrible and there’s no excuse for it. But is it a surprise? Not really. I mean, it’s not like Imogen hasn’t ever been manipulative and selfish. Remember Now or Never? Swiping Eli’s meds, trying to poison Eli against Clare, planting drugs in Clare’s locker… she’s done some pretty horrible things. And then, like always, it bites her in the ass. Fiona finds out what she did and breaks up with her, and Imogen is absolutely devastated. So she goes to great lengths to fix her wrongs and succeeds… but in the end, realizes that she and Fiona want different things and makes the choice to break up with Fiona, even though it means that she might have no one to turn to next year.

I liked this storyline. I liked Fimogen, but I’m not sad that they broke up. It was time.

B Plot - I have mixed feelings about this storyline. I wanted to like it. I really, really did because I love Eclare. But there are some things that I just can’t look past. First and foremost, Eli still did not properly apologize. Once again, he made it about him — saying that he was “messed up after Cam” but never once did he mention how he had treated Clare, and how that had been wrong. So that left a bad taste in my mouth and as sweet and romantic as their first time was (even though I have no idea when Eli had time to set up candles but whatever) I couldn’t enjoy it as much as I wanted to. Partially because of Eli’s lack of apology, but also because of the foreshadowing (really bad foreshadowing, I might add) of Clare’s cancer.

Which is another problem I have with this storyline. While I am looking forward to seeing how it plays out, because I know Aislinn will nail it because she’s a great actress, I didn’t like how it was handled in THIS episode. Finding the lump was fine — also, the nosebleed. But I think that’s where it should have left off. Because that whole conversation she had with Alli in the bathroom felt extremely rushed and when she mentions it to Dallas and co. at the graduation ceremony, NO ONE takes her seriously. It was kind of alarming. I mean, I get that Clare’s a bit of a drama-magnet and all but if one of my friends was worried that they might have cancer, I would take it a tad more seriously. Maybe that’s just me though. That said, there were a couple of highlights about this storyline but I’ll get to them in a bit.

C Plot - This plot was perfection. That is all. I LOVED it and it makes me sad that we didn’t have more Jake/Mo-centric plots like it. Their entire bromance is just so fun and endearing to watch. Also, Jake’s “grand entrance” was just perfect. And stealing the cake. I’m gonna miss these two. I really am.

I don’t know what else to say. I really liked this storyline. There is literally nothing that I DIDN’T enjoy about it.

Additional Highlights:

- Jenna and Alli giving Clare one last pep talk before she loses her virginity. Even though I didn’t like how they were pushing Clare to get back together with Eli, they served as some great comic relief.

- Drianca slow dancing together. I can’t. They were just too adorable for words.

- Jatie kiss.

- Owen moping about not having a prom date.

- Cliff. Just… Cliff.
