Just stopping by to pay my respects. Rick without you we wouldn't have had such an amazing storyline about bullying/school shootings. Let's see the series ever pump out as good of an episode as Time Stands Still.

Added! (That was fun pushing the dust off an OP from 2005.)

Ricky is all grown up and cut his hair!

Thanks for bumping this thread. There was an interview out there I came across and thought you had dropped it off. I will find it again. In the mean time...

Rick went viral!

I saw that tweet and it gave me a laugh.

And now you can go post that interview when you find it.

His reaction to the Dylan Sprouse thing

I wonder what interview I was talking about. This probably.

Ellis, who is making his debut at the Playhouse, achieved his earliest theatrical notices as ‘Rick Murray’, an emotionally disturbed teen on Degrassi: The Next Generation, the internationally popular Canadian television production. His character ‘shot’ rapper, pop star and actor Drake’s character in 2004.

“To tell you the truth, it was fun,” Ellis said, grinning.

For the young actor, the ‘Rick Murray’ role was literally his breakthrough into television and stage acting.

“I was 18 that summer, just six weeks after graduating from high school in Toronto. I was planning to go on to theatre school in the fall, but I suddenly got the chance to audition for Rick.

Technically, I became a series regular, doing eight episodes in two seasons.

I never did go off to theatre school. I threw my hat directly into the acting ring and it proved to be a good choice.”

Ellis recalls his time on Degrassi: The Next Generation with great fondness.

“The writers always tried to make the show as real as possible. Every episode had a message about topical teen issues, which really seemed to speak to kids.”

It was also a fertile training ground for a young actor, who had decided that his career would be in acting.

He learned to cope with the demands of screenplays, where scenes are often shot out of sequence over 12 hour days.

“You have to build your character,” Ellis said. “You use the same role building ‘muscles’ as you would use in live theatre, and you use your imagination to craft the character.”

Since his time on Degrassi, Ephraim Ellis has appeared on television in productions as diverse as Zixx: Level 2 and Zixx: Level 3, Falcon Beach and The Murdoch Mysteries.

More recently Life and Style Mag noticed his Instagram.

And if you ever wanted to see what he would look like old.

So we can add Ephraim to the list of married Degrassians, and it happened a year ago.

ephraimellis- This happened a year ago, and I actively didn't post anything about it because it felt like maybe it'd be nice to not have very personal things on social media?

But we felt like posting about it today, so we did.

Happy first anniversary, @megbluedawn.

They are just quirky and adorable! They should go bowling with Jake #1 and Cassie (not Steele).

The following podcast episode is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify & Google Play.

wayneholtz_
ICONIC #Canadian teen drama @DEGRASSI is celebrating its 20 YEAR ANNIVERSARY! & @EphraimEllis, who played Rick, is the latest guest on @TheWayneHoltzPodcast for his 1ST EVER #PODCAST INTERVIEW. He took on a role at the center of tough subjects like domestic abuse and gun violence, with the latter leaving @ChampagnePapi’s character, Jimmy Brooks, paralyzed from the waist down. Ellis talks about portraying the dark character, and why he and the show’s writers thought it was important to touch on these real life topics.

Plus - We dive into behind-the-scenes stories, including the #Degrassi cast reuniting for Drake’s EPIC music video “I’m Upset” - where Drake’s friends got their revenge on him, AND he got to work with @TheKevinSmith!

Ephraim did a movie with Meat Loaf back in 2012 and he posted a nice little tribute after his death.

ephraimellis- I got to work with Meat Loaf in 2012 on #stagefrightfilm. He was the best celebrity to work with as a fan, because all I had to say was "hey Meat, how are you doin today" and he'd say "Pretty good. This one time in '83 I was playing halftime at a Seahawks game when..." and half an hour later you'd have heard thirty unsolicited, never before heard, CRAZY rock and roll anecdotes. What a talent. RIP. #meatloaf
