[1.] Because he's neither rich or gifted, therefore he's one of the few characters we can actually relate to.
[2.] Because he reminds us of our favorite DTNG alumnus.

[4.] Because even though he screws up, we understand his mistakes.
[5.] Because we enjoy the diversity his family and friends bring to the show.
