I thought that "Scream" the episode title was the Michael Jackson/Janet Jackson duet? Michael Jackson - Scream - YouTube
I am glad that there are finally 90's music episode titles. 90's music to me was much better than the music we have today.

 I have to admit that is not what first came to mind. I couldn't get past the "Whisper to a Scream" end credits blaring in my head when I heard the word Scream.

Actually...since I'm a known horror/thriller movie nut and tomorrow is Alfred Hitchcock's birthday, I'm going to do a swap.

I've already apologized JustMe2000 for taking your week and I'm sorry but this OP is heading in the direction of honoring horror. And the descriptions kinda sorta support that. But please everyone, post your favorite 90s tunes here!

MegaJ 08-12-2012 09:21 PM

Yeah, I think the writers mentioned that Scream is named after the Michael/Janet collabo.

Napster/filesharing pretty much threw the industry in a tizzy which is why the 2000s kinda blew music wise. Don't get me wrong, there was a lot of good stuff, but the bling rap, nu-metal, Disney stars making even MORE saccharine teen pop, complete disappearance of rock and fading of R&B music, singles taking precedent over albums, etc., etc, etc. I'm surprised the writers got decent titles for season 10.

Lady Azura 08-12-2012 09:38 PM

I'm so tired now that I completely misread the episode summary as, "Clare writes an article that stirs up trouble and gains her an enemy; Tori" and was really confused.

JustMe2000 08-12-2012 10:11 PM

I can't find any decent live clips for Scream, but I did find this gem of The Jackson 5 performing at Motown's 25th Anniversary. Now, I just have to forget that someone in the comments on YouTube actually said that guy with the mustache reminds them of Steve Harvey.

And the Beasties (RIP MCA) in front of about 50,000 of their closest friends.

So, this was probably one of my favourite episodes during the summer.

● “Degrassi girls be crazy” – I honestly love how the writers try with the slang, that had me dying

● I really did feel bad for Clare, and that’s pretty painful to admit considering how I usually dislike her. Also, we need to seem more drunk Clare cuz that was just silly XP

● Honestly, how can someone like Eli try to get into Dallas’ face? That was pretty funny even though it was meant to be serious

● Was Dallas behind the garden incident? I’m not sure if that was made clear or not. He was pretty much tricked himself into admitting to the drinking, but I’m still not completely sure if he was behind it or if it was just the others

● Since when can Dave sing? I thought his song and his dance were pretty cute

● Tristan’s jealousy in the background and Zig eating a corndog

● How much money could you possibly make from a mall kiosk in the Eaton Centre?! (and how can I apply 'cuz I'd love to earn enough to buy a 3D TV, basketball tickets, and a motorcycle in one week!)

● imagine watching degrassi in 3D...

A-Plot. Damn, Clare is losing it and I don't blame her. It must be infuriating. I don't really blame her for not telling Eli the whole truth, I mean she's clearly not comfortable with it herself, and I don't think she should dump it on him (or she can tell an adult, but this show...) when she's still traumatized. Don't really feel terrible for Dallas and his crew and I loved how it seems like all the plots (The wrecked garden, Katie/Dallas animosity since the ruined presentation, Asher) have all come together.

B-Plot. Spinner...er...Drew. Sorry, unless he's like selling 10,000 phones a day, he shouldn't have all that money. Unless of course he's splurging and using credit card (Ooh! Another potential storyline! Credit card debt/compulsive shopping!) which will bite him in the ass eventually. Of course Bianca is probably going to say no to him about his proposal, and I don't think they'll break up.

C-Plot. Oh, Bhandurner. It was inevitable, I suppose. Both are going in different directions, Alli's fast-tracking to college and Dave's still a junior. I hope the break-up scene is sweet, a least.

Oh, and this episode had like, a lot of characters in it. I liked that. And I'm pumped for the showdown tomorrow.

JustMe2000 08-13-2012 08:06 PM

Not my favorite episode tonight, but it did have a few good moments.

-Toronto is a huge city, so Clare decides to hide out..........at school. :eyebrow:
-The Ice Hounds drinking beer at school? Something I can actually relate to! And at 11 AM! :look:
-"You look like you could use a beer." Fewer things have made me laugh this summer more than that line and it the way it was delivered.
-Drunk Clare is....well, I can't say I wouldn't mind seeing more of it.
-Jake wanting to fight Dallas both because he tried to kiss Clare and the garden....makes sense.
-Clare: "My journalism senses are tingling" Jake: "That could just be the beer." Ha! :D
-The more I see of Clare's apparent journalism skills the harder it's becoming for me to believe that anyone would ever hire her to be a journalist.

-So Dave can now not only sing, but he can rap now? Hmm...
-Dave can't get Alli to come cheer him, but what about Connor? Yeah, I don't want him to fade into the woodwork.
-Zig's reaction in the background to Dave's performance was great. That guy has become the king of the background reaction shots.

-Owen being in a study group with Fiona and Imogen? In a season full of oddball pairings that might be the oddest one yet.
-Not much more needs to be said about that plot other then it's obvious Drew and his biggest fan are peddling drugs at that kiosk.

About time Owen gets to do something other than be a hockey player! I can live with him not getting his own storyline if they do more with his friendship with Bianca and Drew. :)

This part pretty much felt like a set up for tommorows episode.

I loved Dave's interaction with the niners, especially with Tori. They had a fun plot tonight.

I enjoyed the Clare stuff but don't really have much to say about it right now. I hope she tells Eli the truth early in tomorrows episode so Dallas doesn't out her secret to Eli first. Snake really went easy on them though, detention for drinking in school? Normally that'd be at least a 3 day suspension at a real school.

I know hipster forshadowed Drew's wealth by mentioning big numbers when he was hired but there is no way Drew should have that much money working at the mall. I have a feeling he won't have money to pay Fiona for rent or something.

Nekoshoujo 08-13-2012 08:35 PM

Solid episode but ultimately disappointing, but maybe better than I was thinking?

Drunk!Clare was cute.

The Clare/Dallas interaction was pretty good. I wish Katie hadn’t stepped in, maybe they could have been friends.

Drew plot was kinda boring but I liked the study group.

Dave/Tristan/Tori was fun. I’d love to see more of them.

A Luke/Jenna mention? *gag*

The moments mentioning Asher were nice. I think I would have preferred this as the main focus of the episode.

I'll have more to say after a rewatch.

Too lazy to write my own review right now so I'll just respond to everyone else...

I sincerely hope that's where they're going with this because otherwise nothing about this storyline makes any sense. On the other hand, I'm wondering if maybe I should quit my full-time salaried-with-benefits job tomorrow and instead get a commission-based sales job at a mall kiosk where I too can push crappy cell phone accessories. Next time I go to the mall, I'm gonna ask one of those guys what it feels like to be a millionaire.

I looooved their interactions and I totally ship it. Is that wrong? :look:

Oh I hope not because I ship it too! I actually think that Demetrius and Aislinn have good energy together. Their timing was spot on.

Also good was the way Clare is going about getting her story out there. I was really worried this would quickly fall into fantasy land but I think the writers are playing this storyline true to life which is great because it's an important one. Clare's not one to let things go but looking up past interns is a smart way to get the "evidence" that she needs. I also thought it was a pretty stark contrast to the article about Dallas. Clare knows that she can't try and prove the harassment without a strong backing yet she settled for next to nothing when it came to the article about Dallas. Which is odd considering she seemed pretty cool with him. I do suspect there was a bit of manipulation going on here. Clare's motives for going after Dallas seemed wrapped up in Katie and Jake's. Clare said it herself you mess with my friends you mess with me which is true to her. But it actually shows the writers attitudes as well. Clare really can't just have a storyline about her. They need to tie it into another character's. Ultimately I thought that aspect of the storyline would be worse tonight, but it was problematic enough. Had this plot stuck strictly to Clare's problems and not brought in Jatie's issues with Dallas it would have been a stronger storyline IMO.

Also nice to see Alli. I love that she's really sticking by Clare through this.

...No.

Clare drank, then started rambling off about her harassment to Dallas.

What does Dallas do after she says, "I'm done talking. Talking is overrated."? He leans in and tries to kiss her without permission...AFTER SHE SAYS SHE WAS HARASSED.
What an *******. Wouldn't that count as Clare experiencing even more harassment?

I don't like how she says he's harmless, either.

I don't like Katie or Dallas.

The other storylines were not good. And the Owen being in a study group with girls is disturbing because he is prone to being a sexual-harasser himself. Goddamnit, just get shot already, Owen. I also didn't like how CHUMMY Owen and Drew were. Drew's a dumbass; but he doesn't try to rape people. Drew's girlfriend was raped and nearly raped twice (Bianca) and his first ex-girlfriend (Alli) was nearly raped by the same guy Drew is being chummy with. WHAT THE ****.

Katie pissed me off like Owen pissed me off like Dallas pissed me off.

Jesus Christ, Snake, what kind of lame-ass punishment is 2 weeks in detention for underage drinking and around school grounds/in school? I miss you from the mid-Season after The Boiling Point. You had more balls and you weren't letting people get away with as much **** as you are now. UGH.

kaleidocat 08-13-2012 11:53 PM

The kids of Degrassi really cannot handle their liquor at all can they?

There seemed to be a weird time lapse there though. Clare catches the team having their happy hour at 11 am, goes off to her meeting, returns to school to spaz out and catch a buzz, writes her article, has it published, and THEN there's the meeting with Simpson and Dallas. There wasn't any wardrobe changes in there was there? This all happened one afternoon? :eyebrow:

This was the first time I've enjoyed Clare and Jake interactions since their switch from almost lovers to step-siblings, probably because they seemed more like friends and had Katie there as a buffer. Her trying to walk past them and their reactions were cute. I also appreciate the detail of Katie and Jake in kiss and Clare comes into focus. Also, from Jake's past history with Clare, we know he is willing to cover for her so it makes sense that he would try to get her out of sight and sobered up. So I'm actually quite pleased with how she was introduced to garden incident and how she is getting geared up for fight mode against Asher as well as pushing forward the whole showdown theme we've seen this season so far.

Snake meeting with Clare and Dallas to discuss the article held my attention. Amusing to see Dallas accidentally confess to drinking. I also found it rewarding to see him rat Clare out. She should be punished as well.

Drew...he needs to go home to mom. I feel like watching a season 10 episode when she was always on his case. It's obvious he needs it.
