Episode 910 Discussion- Somebody- 11/8 (CTV) & 11/9 (MuchMusic)

I thought I saw the Madonna
When you walked in the room
Well your eyes were like diamonds
And they cut right through - oh they cut right through

Against all odds, Holly J (Charlotte Arnold) has fallen for Declan (Landon Liboiron). Suddenly she gets what everyone’s been so excited about for so long. Feeling this way about a boy, who feels the same way, gets Holly J to act outside of her comfort zone. Will Holly J’s relationship jeopardize her ‘Type A’ life? (CTV Media)
And because apparently if you even think about posting a clip of the Bryan Adams song with this title on YouTube, you'll be shot down with laser beams....it's the linky thing for today.

And....Depeche Mode doing their thing. Take it away Martin......

Both episodes tonight were very similar to 904 and 906 in that the main storyline was relationship~ drama and not much else happened. They definitely weren't stand out episodes to me. Kind of... boring compared to what I expect from Degrassi.

That said, I think Holly J/Declan might be my favourite ship in this love square. I love Declan, and I would watch him do anything pretty much And he was sweet with Holly J. So that was nice.

Nice to see Connor get the subplot and MORE Dave!

I was let down by both episodes tonight. While I think Declan/Holly J. are okay as a ship, I didn't really care for the episode. I'm hoping more issues are covered this season, and more drama (and not of the relationship variety). Maybe my hopes were too high for this season?

The b-plot was okay-- I liked that Connor was finally involved in a plot this season. Dave is my favourite of the newbies, so any plot involving him is okay with me too. With that said, the plot in itself, wasn't anything special.

A-Plot: I was disappointed overall with both episodes. I liked the idea of Holly J and Declan together alot. But the reality was not what I was expecting. I didn't like seeing them all lovey-dovey. Couldn't we have them running around meddling together? That would have been a lot more fun to watch. I'm hoping they'll tone down the "love" stuff for the rest of the season

B-Plot: Poor Connor ;_; I felt a lot of second hand embarrassment for him. Good that he stuck it to Ethan at the end. Plus I'm just happy he had a plot this season. Connor/Dave friendship wasn't as fun/I didn't love it like like I loved the KC/Dave friendship. But I do really like how all Niners interact with each other. They're a well planned group and no matter how you slice it they always feel natural.

Holly J and Declan night. Commenting in the most interesting episode post.

909 was okay set-up, much like 904 was. I just find it hilarious that Declan, much like Holly J is an awkward dork who pre-plans basically everything he says (with the cafeteria scene putting an emphasis on that). The attraction there didn't feel forced, and I gotta say both actors did a good job on making the sparks fly. 909's subplot held up surprisingly well for three characters not seen much. I just wonder what Leia's going to do now since she and Danny are done. Oh, and since when did Chante stop being so annoying and be...dare I say...likable?

910 was the better episode, with the nepotism/caught making out twist thrown out. Both Holly Jeanette and Declan's mothers in the same room...priceless. I never figured Holly J to be one for honesty and being upfront with relationship, though I guess outside of general meanness/bitchy behavior I can't really think of any serious affront on her character's part. Declan's face after he told his mom off was greatness. The subplot was better in this one too; you can tell that the writers really spent a lot of attention on building the Niner's relationships with each other and we saw Dave and Connor have a sweet moment.

It's very late, so more details later, but.....I really like Holly J and Declan together. A little rushed for sure (it might help if they spaced out these two plots better), but they've got an amazing chemistry together and I'm looking forward to seeing more with them.

As for subplot, great to see Connor get a plot and I enjoyed his and Dave's relationship.

I'm so confused about why this episode was placed where it was. It was so similar to the previous episode that the two kind of blend together in my mind. I will say that really loved the opening scene of this episode... and then it was kind of all downhill from there. I agree with Nekoshoujo... they need to tone down the lovey-dovey-ness! This couple was definitely much better in theory, at least so far.

I am relieved that at least they decided not to repeat the "sneaking around" storyline we've seen so many times before. Good for Holly J for standing her ground on that. I sympathized with Declan too when he said that his family was all he had. I think Degrassi needs to explore this issue a lot more, for him and Fiona. Obviously their history of constantly moving around and living high-profile lives has affected their personal development dramatically.

I also liked that we found out what the J stands for. And that Declan's mom was played by the mom from Life with Derek. It makes me happy that Canada only has about 25 actors total so I always recognize the new people Degrassi brings in.

At least the b-plot wasn't romantic... it reminded me a lot of when JT decided he was too cool for Toby, except Dave made the right decision. I'm glad Connor is figuring out what his strengths are and where he fits in. I'm also growing to like Dave a lot.

This one was a little better than 909. I think Declan/Holly J are great together. Both characters mesh really well and they definitely have amazing chemistry.

I got to say, Holly J is so much more likable now. I like bitchy characters but they tried way too hard with her in season7 that she just came off as pathetic and immature. I mean she was always sticking her hands in peoples food and her lines sounded so unnatural and annoying. But then we slowly got know her better, found out she was a secret virgin, and that she actually is a little nerdy on the inside, then she actually got to learn the responsibility of working instead of getting everything from Daddy. I just find her so much more interesting now and don't get annoyed every time she opens her mouth.

I completely agree with you. I used to hate Holly J. because I just didn't understand why she acted the way she did and the writers never attempted to explain her behavior. Now she eased up on the unnecessary b!tchiness, and her character is much easier to bare. I loved Charlotte in Naturally Sadie, and she's a great actress. I can't imagine going from portraying nature girl to queen bee.

I really did enjoy this episode because Declan/Holly J. makes way more sense than Declan/Jane. Since Degrassi has no ships I like anymore, they are now one of my favorites. I really think "Somebody" and "Waiting for a Girl Like You" should have just been episodes in a two-parter, but it's not a big deal to me.

I thought everything they went through was kind of rushed, because in this episode it kind of seemed like they'd been dating for a while. Declan seems to make Holly J. loosen up a little too much, which could really get her into serious trouble if they last in the long run. I really liked the political type storyline, even though it seemed to be kind of setup. I can't believe Holly J. would actually mention that was dating the advisor's son when she was a candidate for such a position. Maybe she's changed a little too much. On the other hand, I could really relate to her being chosen for the program and how she feels about her classmates. Declan standing up to his mom was also interesting. Maybe they'll show his whole family in one room sometime in the future.

As for the subplot, I wasn't really impressed by it. I love Dave, but I really don't think anyone else involved in the subplot are great actors. I liked how Connor took the fall for Dave, but at the end of the day, he really shouldn't have. That's called being a desperate sucker. I don't Dave should have tried to push him into the spotlight, but he shouldn't have been surprised when Connor embarrassed him. I guess he still doesn't know about his condition. At the end of the day, at least Dave made the right choice about who his real friends were. For a small guy, he can sure stand up to people more than KC can.

I'll give it an 8/10.

I liked this episode, I agree it seemed kind of soon after 9x09, it would have been nice to have maybe 9x11 & 9x12 in the middle? But i still loved it. Basically, i'm just obsessed with Holly J. & Declan together
