Episode 813/814 Discussion- Jane Says- Friday 7/3 on The N

She just don't know, what else to do about it....

And since it's going to be in one big block.........

Quote:
Friday July 3 at 8:00 ET (The N), Jane Says, parts 1 and 2

The Shep has returned after his sensitivity training and it's Spirit Week at Degrassi! However spirits are anything but high at home for Jane as she struggles to get her dropout brother Lucas off the couch. Despite Jane's efforts, Jane's mom believes Lucas could benefit from some father/son time. Jane doesn't want her father in her life. Her friends and family don't understand why she hates him. Truthfully, neither does Jane.

Danny's new girlfriend Leia has a problem - she doesn't fit in with Danny's friends and lies compulsively to avoid them. Her chance to impress Danny's posse arises at a co-ed sleepover at Peter's pad. Truth or dare, anyone?
Jane admits to herself that her issues with her dad go deeper than the divorce - she thinks maybe he did things to her. Jane is very confused and feels alone. Lucas gives Jane a hard time for creating tension between mom and dad. But when Lucas finally sees the truth, together they stand up to their father.

Alli encourages Clare to get a new wardrobe, but with it she also gets some attention from boys. Only problem, can Alli deal with not being the only Gifted Niner Hottie anymore? [/quote]

omg I'm so happy!!! Degrassi has become Degrassi again!!

I really really loved this episode, and I'm DYING for part 2 next week. I'm sure it's going to be amazing.

It's so great that Degrassi is finally tackling this issue. They did it with Liz on DH, so it's great that they are doing it again now. I really love the Liz storyline, and this one seems just as good! I think that they're doing it right.

As for the subplot, it was also good. It wasn't nearly as good as the main plot obviously, but I still liked it. I totally get how Leia felt pressured to sound interesting, especially in front of Mia. I'm glad that Leia and Danny stayed together in the end. I have to laugh at the way Danny, Sav, and Peter talk when they are trying to sound cool though. Why can't they just talk normally? lol

So yeah I am pleasantly surprised. This is what a two-part Degrassi episode should be.

Overall, I liked the episode. There was a definite build-up... you can tell it'll get a lot more intense in the second part. Paula Brancati is a great actress, so she can definitely pull this storyline off. I agree that it's nice to see Degrassi tackling an issue again. The writing was pretty good. Also, it was nice to see Lucas again.

The subplot was okay, I'm still not crazy about Leia. The whole storyline seemed a little immature too, maybe it was just the way it was written... but I didn't mind it too much.

I definitely think this has been a stronger episode of the season, and I'm looking forward to the second part.

BTW offtopic, but Oh Canada, is that Zoey from Renegadepress in your avatar? I love that show to pieces. :x

First off....an alumni football game? I'll give them credit. That's an interesting way to get Liberty involved.

Second, shouldn't The Shep have to apologize to Clare in front of the whole school?

As for the episode, I liked the main plot. Jane's not one of my favorites, but this was pretty good in the way they built this up. It's already much better than what they did with Liz on DH, although that's not that big an accomplishment. I was also reminded of how much potential the Lucas character actually has. I'd like to see him brought back as a regular in S9 and then dig deeper with his character. I'm looking forward to next week's episode. Hopefully, we get a good pay off.

I wasn't too much of a fan of the subplot. I get the idea of a Leia not fitting in with Danny's friends and being intimidated into lying about who she really is. But, at the same time I just don't know if I see anything in Leia that would make Danny so attracted to her. I don't feel the spark there and it's hurting their plots.

Lastly, I wish they had shown less of the Truth or Dare party and more of the little mini get together with Jay, Liberty, Spin, Jane and Lucas at The Dot.

Nice to see you back, Lucas. If they're planning on having Spinner and Jay hangout with the high school kids, I don't know why TPTB didn't bother bring the actor back full time. He's a dropout, he could easily fit in with the Spinner/Jay dynamic and the other Lakehurst cronies at Degrassi. Anyway. A-Plot was really good, Paula is definitely proving that she can be a capable lead and the Jane character has a wealth of opportunity (Don't know why TPTB made her a senior). Definitely headed down the sexual abuse path. Seeing Liberty (not speaking, I guess they didn't want to pay her too much) was a nice surprise.

B-Plot was b-plot. Don't really know how I feel about it, though I did feel a lot of second hand embarrassment for Leia. Her lying was very compulsive, and I don't think that issue is going to go away. Add that to the fact that she was doing to avoid meeting Danny's friends and once she met them, she was lying to make herself seem cool and important.

So, my opinion is like the rest. Liked the main plot a lot (though it was sorta predictable) and I was like ehh on the sub-plot. Whatever. Pretty good ep, I thought.

My question: Janie-Bear? Didn't Jane change her name from Anastasia Valieri to Jane Vaughn? So...unless she changed her name before she was four, I really don't see why her father would call her Janie-Bear...unless I got something wrong? This is really bugging me, haha. I'd appreciate if someone could explain this to me.

Plot hole big enough to drive a Mack truck through.

I think Paula Brancati is a terrific actress..and without the goth look she's really beautiful too. The way she's playing Jane is great..she's doing great at school, forms a great couple with Spinner and all the individual stuff she's distinguishing herself with. And now with her father returning(together with all the bad memories) and worrying about her failure brother Lucas she has to cope with difficult things. It's all so real and that's why she is so great. Paula is doing a terrific job. And Mia is really beautiful!

Overall I really enjoyed this episode. Paula did a great job and I enjoyed watching her plot. I liked seeing Issy again even though I thought Lucas wasn't allowed to see her anymore? Anyway the actress who plays Jane's mother is a great actress and I'm glad she was a big part of this episode. I'm still not a fan of Lucas but maybe that will change in Part 2...

Leia's plot was ok but when Judy talks its really slow and she pauses alot...its kind of annoying. I wonder why Chante(I think its spelt Chantay...but I like Chante better:p) wasn't at the sleepover... I want her to get at least a sub plot...she's been around since season 4...she's long over due for a plot of her own. Sorry about the Chante rant...And the sudden interest in LOST was soo random, it has never been mentioned before, and all of a sudden they are all huge fans...I bet it wont be mentioned again either. I understood Leia feeling the need to lie to fit in...but you she should at least say realistic things, whatever, I'm kind of over Leia after this episode and I probably ownt see muhc of her until next season, but I'm thinking she might have been bulimic because in the opener she told Mia ishe said she was happen to have a friend that eats, and in episode 7 in the bathroom she asks Holly J if she is bulimic all out of the blue.

Anyway I'm looknig forward to Jane Says PART 2!, but not really for the subplot except it will be nice for Clare to get rid of that uniform:p.

So, I'm not crazy?! Okay, awesome. Yeah, as soon as they said the name in the episode I started obsessing about whether or not they screwed up the continuity. Guess they did.

My friends have made a huge deal of getting their G2. Milestone, haha. It takes such a long time to get that it is something worth celebrating. I dunno. I still have yet to get mine, I'm so lazy.

I REALLY liked this episode and I can't wait to see part2.

I always love seeing characters home lifes, and Jane and Lucus's interested me from the start so it's nice to be able to see even more of it again. I was a little worried that they weren't going to do a good job on this storyline but it is looking great so far and I think part2 will be even better. It's obvious Jane's father used to molest her and that shows through her repressed memories and the way she acts when she is around him.

It is great to see Issy again even though Lucus wasn't supposed to be involved with her. I guess it's just another one of those things they want us to forget. Still it would have been nice if we could have seen a conversation with Jane trying to ask Mia if it would be ok or something.

The only thing I really didn't like was the subplot. Not too much to say about it except Leila is just plain annoying and I don't understand why Danny likes her.
