Episode 804 Discussion--Didn't We Almost Have It All--October 24, 2008

Liberty's desperate to get into the right sorority; Holly J's desperate to lose her virginity. (The-N)

Or You Got It (The Right Stuff). Or the Liberty episode. Or the one where something happens and then something else happens and it all has to do with Liberty or Holly J. Or whatever it is the kids are calling it these days.

Let's see.......

-The University stuff is being done better than in the past.
-This racism angle was done better than in previous episodes as well.
-Emma being the "best friend" in the episode was a good touch, as her character fit in best with what the way events in the plot turned.
-Overall Sarah was okay, but she doesn't do drunk too well.

-My favorite relationship among the newer students is the Mia/Holly J. relationship. Their scenes were my favorite in the episode.
-The stuff with Holly J. and Blue was rushed, but they had a nice spark, so that helped.
-Chantany is annoying.
-Plus points again for involving school work in the plot. Oh yeah....another new teacher, which is good too. And with Blue around, we'll probably see her again.

This might have been my favorite episode of the season so
far. It's got the best combination in terms of having both plots be enjoyable.

I thought it was a pretty good episode.

I really liked seeing this whole sorority storyline with Liberty. And I loved seeing the interactions between Em,Lib, and Manny. I love those three together. Kelly actually isn't that bad as a new character either. And the whole stereotyping/racism thing was definitely a lot better then that episode last season with Danny.

I liked the subplot too. I wasn't a fan of Holly J much before, and my reasons aren't because of her being bitchy (because I do like the bitch character on TV alot), it's more because it always felt the way she acted was like she was in the 7th grade or something. I do think she is getting a little more interesting, though. I think it's cool that out of all the cheerleaders they made the popular, bitchy girl turn out to be the only virgin (besides Anya) and it made sense that she only wanted to lose it to fit in. I also thought her and Blue were an interesting match so far. This episode showed why I still like Mia's character too. I think she is a sweet girl that is just misunderstood. She is nice enough to still want to help Holly J and give her advice, even though she knows she is just going to be a bitch to her.

Hi, new member!

I liked this episode. I don't care much for Liberty, but I liked seeing that she was desperate enough to join a sorority that didn't really want her. I liked Holly J's lines the best. I didn't think I would like the new high school storylines without the older characters, but I'm surprising myself by doing so.

Does anyone else hate Chantal? I can't stand her character. I really hope there's no special episodes about her. Ugh.

This episode could have turned out better if they had done ANYTHING but what they did. It's almost like they wanted to stamp an issue on the episode and jam it so full of events because it needs to "go there" and be "intense" and it loses all meaning of what it intended to start out with. I think the sorority, racism, binge drinking, and trying to fit in with your peers could have spanned out all season. They are all interesting issues and there is ways to involve Manny and Emma in that as well, maybe even giving a binge drinking storyline to one of them. College life doesn't exist of bubbles. And why not invest more into the sorority girls? I hate how they were written; they were cartoon-y and because of that it was really difficult to feel anything for Liberty's situation. There should have been some meat to them. A good antagonist should have layers to them. They can still be the villain and be human. Hell, maybe they could have really dug into the racism issue and not made them antagonists at all and tried to explain people's motives. This episode was lazy. I'm saying this because I do have faith in the show...sometimes it can really nail issues when they all sit down and say you know what, we are going to invest some time into this and let the story grow because we have faith in it and the actors (Darcy's rape storyline and Craig's child abuse comes first into my mind).

I don't really have anything to say about the Holly J plot. There was some realism in this episode with sexual pressure and wanting to fit in and I'm thankful for that.

But this episode is still utterly unwatchable. I'm not going to say it's great just because one of the veterans of the show is in it, which I think is what a lot of fans did.

I actually really enjoyed this episode. Maybe it's because I'm a female minority and I know what it's like to feel out of place, especially within academic/social circles. While some of the dialogue was over the top, I have heard some ignorant statements or remarks made. This may be a difference between the U.S./Canada, but it was definitely recognizable from my point of view. I also thought they did the college stuff better than they have in the past. People hooking up, drunk games, more than one person drinking, etc. I'm not familiar with Greek life, but I have heard stories about what Liberty had to go through. Yeah, I guess it was just the inane comments that felt forced. Other than that, I appreciated them covering this topic.

I like Holly J/Blue, but I don't like Holly J. I like how he can challenge her and isn't her doormat. That's really something she needs. This could make her a better person. Plus artists rank high with me.

The huge not so good thing about the ep was Liberty having her stomach pumped. They acted like she had a stomachache, especially when Manny brought her some tea. I was like uhhhhh.........no. They should cover alcoholism one of these days, and no I don't count Jessie's Girl.

I gave the ep a B+, but it's interesting to hear everyone's opinions.

Am I the only one who thought the racist comments were hilarious and I'm a black female !

And saying that the episode was unwatchable, I think is way too exagerated !!

Believe me I have met people ignorant like the sorority girls. I didn't have any problem with sorority girls being cartoonished.

However, I wish it was Liberty's season Arc rather than just one episode !
