You hear that guys? That's the Clew train a-comin'.
Anyway. I love it when the episodes all have a unifying theme, and it looks like the theme was everyone dealing with pre-conceived notions and reputation. A-Plot. I couldn't get on Winston's side here, he was entirely too antagonistic for me to side with him. That may have been the point though, and I'm glad someone finally said out loud that Drew being President was weird. Nothing much to say here, it was solved in one episode, it was good, blah blah blah. And I think make-up overdid it with Drew's cheeks in the final scene. B-Plot. I think there's more to meets the eye about what's going on with Eli. Yeah, he cheated but he also looks haggard so I'm thinking we'll get an explanation for that. Not excusing the cheating on his cancer-stricken girlfriend, but freshman year is pretty tough especially since he's out the country. He has no friends, works a job as well, the curriculum is considerably more difficult than hand-holding high school, loneliness, freshman 15, having to make friends all over again...it's a serious shock to the system. He and this Lenore probably just had a connection and he felt extremely guilty about it afterwards. I think he and Clare will eventually work it out, but not before Clew. C-Plot. I feel for Tristan. I know it's hard for naturally flamboyant gay men everywhere. It doubly sucks since he wants to be taken seriously. Of course he's going to start working with Zoe, which will strain his friendship but I'm reminded of that scene in the beginning of the season where he ditches Maya to hang with Zoe so I saw this coming. Next week, get a Clew! __________________

What I liked about the Eclare plot is its realisim. Many high school couples are great and go through so much stuff together and grow so close, but once they enter the real world, that can all change because quite frankly we don't fall in love with a person from high school or even nearby us; we fall in love with the idea of how close they are. If you truly think about it, your one true love could be ANYWHERE in the world, not someone you went to high school with or lived down the street from you. You like the convience of it all; not them.

I find it hard to take this president storyline seriously because Drew has way more responsibility than a real school president would have. Either way Winston was way out of line attacking Drew like that just because he was picked on in the past by other people. So far I'm not liking Winston as much as I hoped I would.
With Eli & Clare not so much annoyed that they are ending as I am that they went the cheating route. I want to see how it plays out next week. Tristan's was a little boring but I thought his performance was great. Overall meh episode. |

-Miles needs to go back to his sport coat and tie look, because whatever he's doing now isn't working.
-Tristan's dramatic interpretation of the monologue brought flashbacks of when Ashley and Craig did the same with The Taming of the Shrew. I tend to find things like that to be a good thing, even if in this case it reminded me of one of my least favorite episodes. -I still can't take Townsend seriously. He just seems like a parody of a teacher. -Very happy to see Zoe's common sense advice to Tristan. Good thing -i hope they go somewhere with Tristan's acting, because as mentioned, he's actually pretty good at it. -Alli and Jenna snarking on Clare's excitement about Eli returning? Perfect representation of their friendship, or really any high school friendship. -The dramatic music cue that played when Clare saw the cigarettes in Eli's bag was just too much. Oh and how many times must we see one character go through a left behind bag/cell phone/laptop for these guys to learn not to leave anything behind? -Alli's line about Eli not being the only one keeping secrets was an interesting given what's going on in her relationship with Leo and how much she's told her friends about it. -Clare and Drew have their own handshake? No comment. Here. -I think Drew was right to fire Winston. That selective editing is exactly the type of stunt that would get him fired in the real world. Well, at least with some places. -I'm continually amazed at Snake's inability to handle things when they go wrong. That protest should have been one of the easiest things to handle that he's had to deal with. And yes, he should be the one dealing with it. -Bianca dropping the "big" words while talking to Drew made me wonder if she had just gotten a word of the day calendar. -The idea of Winston doing this protest because of all the people like Drew who picked on him is actually pretty interesting to me, but since this was told from Drew's point of view and we didn't get any real detail and back story from Winston it was a wasted idea. -I wonder what the Degrassi students voted for when Drew asked them to what to do with the money on the blog? Any ideas? -One of the smaller moments that I liked was Becky laughing at Imogen reminding Winston that she's the producer and not the camera operator. Despite having a lot of dramatic moments in it, I actually think there was a somewhat laid back vibe to it, which served it well. There were a few issues, but overall I enjoyed it. This block is ending with a pretty good set of episodes. __________________

Plot A - The Drew plot was kind of... pointless. I mean... there was no inciting incident to make Winston suddenly hate him. There was nothing. It came completely out of left field, and so needless to say, I was on Drew's side the whole time because he didn't do ANYTHING to trigger Winston's sudden animosity towards him. Speaking of Winston... I thought he was going to be one of my favourites this season, but ever since this block started, he's just been kind of annoying. When he was introduced in "Summertime" he at least seemed to have SOME depth, at least regarding his friendship with Miles, but ever since the school year started, he seems completely out of touch with what's even going on with his best friend. It just seems odd to me and I'm not sure if he's feigning ignorance because he's loyal to Miles or if the writers just have no idea what they're doing with him so they just made him the dorky and annoying comic relief.
But back to this plot. It felt... sloppy, for lack of a better word. I mentioned this on tumblr, because I was a tad insulted as a viewer AND a writer, but... in order to have a REACTION like the one Winston had (i.e: editing the video to make Drew look bad to prove some kind of point) there needs to be an ACTION that precedes it. Otherwise it doesn't make sense. Drew had never done anything to Winston to make him do that! There wasn't even a throwaway line implying that he had in the past! There was no reason for it! None! And because of that, this plot fell short for me. Plot B - I'm not going to even delve into the sheer WTF-ery that was this plot. Eli cheating, especially after only SIX WEEKS of being away from Clare, after EVERYTHING they have been through together and after EVERYTHING he did to win her back... and then to go around and kiss/sleep with his hot roommate? For real, writers? Are you KIDDING me? Now, I know that he didn't outright say that that's what happened, but it was implied and at this point, I honestly don't care if they get back together. I have been DONE with Eli's BS since "Ray of Light" and this crap, no matter how OOC, is just the topping on the cake. Clare deserves better. Not Drew, granted - but better. I spent three years invested in this couple, and it was apparently for nothing. Whatever, though. I'm done with Eclare. Plot C - This plot was... alright. Kind of confusing, mostly because Tristan HAS had a lead role in a serious play before (Romeo & Jules, anyone?) but I digress. It was probably the best out of all three, even if it was just "meh" overall. At least it made SENSE and Tristan's character was consistent. But yeah... that's basically all I have to say about this one. It was okay. Not spectacular or memorable, but good for what it was. __________________

LadyAzura: I don't think Drew & Clare are going to be the 'end' couple at all. I just think they're cute together...from the scenes they've been in. I hope Clare does find someone better. Hell, if she stays single, that'd be great, too. Although I'll still be looking for Clenna scenes cause .
Prediction: Eclare will break-up. Drianca will break-up. Clew briefly happens. They graduate. Prediction of Big Movie: Drianca get back together. Eli tries to befriend Clare again, but she's so done with him that she can't even do fathom being near him again (even moreso than after the Morty funeral). Clare goes on some vacation to figure out exactly what her career is going to be now that she has given up on Columbia, etc. End result: Independent Clare realizing her dreams. I feel the same about Winston. That episode put me off of him. Damn. You know like ankle-biters? Those type of dogs? Yeah, that's what his behavior reminded me of. Imogen going along with it...and Becky. I...what. |

Just a reminder, the words "I cheated on you" never came out of Eli's mouth. That scene was written in such a way that could interpreted as such but no conformation.
In any case, CLEW. Get ready. __________________

My main question for this whole episode: WHY WAS JAKE'S TRUCK BEING USED FOR CLARE'S DATE?? How will he leave his mushroom fields now...? I guess he can bike or walk, but really, Clare using Jake's truck...? Unless it's his father's truck and not specifically his. Lol. |

This episode was two thirds worthless. Tristan and Zoe interacting didn't require an entire episode of work, it could have been resolved in their last interaction, and the episode could have been dedicated to better things, like the interactions between zoe and tristin within said comedy group. Also, Drew's storyline not only didn't make any sense even a little bit, but there was no difference made at the end of the episode. Everything was the same. Why was that featured so prominently?
Eli/Claire was obviously the meat of the episode, and i made the point on twitter, but Degrassi is really good at filling the plot with worthless moments, bad writing, plot inconsistencies and overall silly actions, but then they switch on you with something good, like Fiona ****ing around on twitter, then her house getting robbed. I didn't see that coming, and it was great. I, surprisingly, didn't see Eli cheating coming at all. Side note - Did it seem like Munro was sick or he didn't want to be there? |
