This was a good episode. I liked how they focused on characters that had less screentime before (Like Alli, Bianca, Imogen, and Wesley).
It's interesting how Adam's advice isn't so good this season. Are they trying to avoid just making him the "Perfect LGBT Advice Giver" that Marco and Zane were before? The Adam/Alli/Jenna friendship was nice. I hope they hang out more. I'm glad Imogen's not involved in anymore love polygons. Her scenes with Bianca were nice. The Wesley plot is easy to connect to. It feels like a plot from the earlier seasons, which isn't a bad thing. Also, on a random note, I like Hannah more than Sadie. Hannah seems to have a personality, or at least a backbone. Like, she sometimes disagrees with Wesley, while Sadie seemed to always support Dave. Maybe the age difference affects their behavior? |

Predictions for tomorrow:
- Alli gets caught card-counting and those angry guys Jenna warned her about get... well, angry. - Wesley crashes his uncle's car. Hannah may be in it and may get hurt. Leading to ANOTHER break-up. - Bianca returns the money to Imogen, so Vince beats her for not doing her job. Review later. |

I'll have a good opinion on the whole episode after part 2, but I'd just like to say, I really hope Liam doesn't win Hannah over. Wesley represents the underdog here, and Liam just came off as a jerkoff with a few of his lines.
Alli looked really good in this episode. I like her plot but I find it slightly unrealistic that she doesn't realize what kind of situation she's walking into. Bianca's situation in part 2's going to be interesting. It's nice to see Imogen outside of love triangles (squares, octagons) and see her cool quirky side like we saw in her debut episode. |

Another great episode! Oh season 11 how I love you so~ I have positive things to say about every plot. Instead of talking about the episode by plot I'm gonna sort it out by character tonight:
Jenna: I really like her friendship with Alli. I thought it was cool seeing Adam as the go between with them and Dave. Imogen: I liked her tonight! She works well with other girls like Bianca and Clare. It's kinda interesting since all three of those girls are extremely insecure. If they formed a trio they might be able to help each other out with that. I'm glad that they do seem to be touching on her insecurites though. I hope it's mentioned or explored more in the second part. Really glad she's branching out from the Imogeli dynamic because I really didn't like their romance/her crush. Anyway I think Bianca secretly likes her, we'll see where it goes... But also cool seeing her step into the Dave plot for that one scene. Adam: "Sex Dessert?" Oh Adam~ He was really cute tonight. I liked his scenes with Dave and with Alli/Jenna. He's kinda friends with everyone and that's cool to see. Hannah: She's a cool supporting character. It's nice seeing a girl who really owns her geekiness. In a way she provided a nice contrast with Alli who using her smarts in such a different way. I also liked how she tried to make peace between Wesley and Liam. She had legit points about Wesley being overly ambitious. Liam: I like his ties :] I feel like I would ship him with Hannah, sorry Wes! Wesley: Alright so I liked parts of his plot and didn't like other parts. For positives, it was a nice change of pace watching a plot that was slow and not very dramatic. Season 11 has been one dramatic punch after another so I appreciated the breather. However, I felt like there was something missing from this plot: a point. Even the slow plots of the gen 1 cast had a sense of purpose to them and I didn't feel that here tonight. I think it might have been how the storyline was set up, maybe there should have been one more scene or something. That said it's nice seeing Wesley get the spotlight. And I also liked the scenes with his uncle, they work well as a duo. Bianca: Words can't describe how I love this girl! Giving her a plot of her own was long overdue. On top of that the content of this plot was awesome because it's something I've been waiting to see for awhile. Let's face it we've seen plenty of characters using drugs but none of them dealing, and this is high school, how unrealistic! Glad they finally changed that and so I'm looking forward to how this plot plays out. I was also really glad to see Bianca letting her guard down a little with Imogen. Her smile during the second gym class scene was so cute! If they become friends it would help both of them deal with some of their issues. Also Bianca taking the money was nice to see too because it proved this storyline isn't floating in fantasy land. Bianca is one of the few characters whose thought process I can easily follow. Tonight the writers proved they could make Bianca real without pushing her into sterotype land. I think Alicia's best scenes tonight were the ones with Vince. They have a scary kind of chemistry. I found myself holding my breath a little, these two have a delicate balance, it's obvious that something bad could happen at any moment. Dave: Great tonight! I'm glad that Jahmil is finally getting scenes that allow him to show off what a fantastic actor he is. He's just so natural. His scenes with Adam were especially great to watch. Jahmil and Jordy play off each other in a way that makes me feel like I'm really watching two high school boys having fun together. It's nice to see that while they are both naive, they're not clueless. I also liked the dinner scene with Alli. Somehow it was awkward without being uncomfortable. Alli: Continuing to love Alli this season! She's embraced being smart which I just want to celebrate. Too many girls like Alli try to downplay their brains in high school to fit in which is what Alli did before this season. It was frustrating to watch. So I'm proud of Alli for accepting herself and not being ashamed of her gifts. I also think the poker plot is pretty awesome. I don't know how many of you play cards or gamble, but it really is a rush! It's cool that they're showing that thrill- and how it can be dangerous. All and all I think this was a great set up episode. The strengths were the friendships and leading ladies (Bianca and Alli) while the negatives seemed to be in the pacing. |

I was distracted by a lot of things in this episode. Like, why is Wesley learning how to drive in a crowded school parking lot? And how are these kids getting away with playing a poker game in the middle of the cafeteria during lunchtime while Snake walks by? And why am I hearing a Lady Gaga song? And how is it possible that Armstrong looks younger now than he did 10 seasons ago?
Soooooooo bored by the Wesley plot. Someone explain to me who these additional characters are and why I'm supposed to care. Hannah is basically a nobody and unless her character is going to be fleshed out next season (which I doubt - seems like she exists solely as Wesley's gf), then I don't care and I need less of her on my screen. Then that other kid, who was he? Why was he wearing a blazer with shorts? (More unanswered questions.) He seemed vaguely familiar from a previous episode but there are so many new generic-looking white kids this season that they all blend together for me. Oh, but the upside of this plot was Wesley's adorable uncle. (Am I the only one who finds him attractive? Dorky but oddly endearing? I'm showing my age now, for sure...) I'm glad Imogen got to interact with someone new but she seems to have lost her sass. I guess she seems almost like a real person now, and she's kind of disappointing as a normal teenager. Apparently I liked her more as an obsessive psycho stalker than I thought I did. I am looking forward to seeing where Bianca's plot goes. Especially since we haven't seen her side of the story in a while. But I also kind of forgot what was going on with Bianca since the last time we saw her, since it had been so long. And the Dave/Alli plot....... well, I'm really glad the writers woke up and remembered that Alli is a genius, so it makes sense that she can count cards. I see nothing wrong with this plan at all!!! As far as Dave thinking he was gonna get some... lol. That was embarrassing. And it reminded me of a mixture of plots from seasons 1-3, so there were some definite old school vibes that I enjoyed. It was a little weird to see Alli, Adam, and Jenna all hanging out and I wonder if we'll see more of them. Actually, one of the things I really like about season 11 so far is seeing all these characters interact with each other in constantly evolving groups. There were too many cliques last season which I think caused a lot of storylines to feel disjointed. This year we don't have that as much. Ugh, I don't know why I've rambled on so much about an episode I didn't even care for. I need to learn how to play poker. eta - Of course I had to post after Asya's rave review so I look like a giant a-hole... and apparently the kid in a blazer has a name! Who knew! Watch him be the star of the show in season 12, I'll really be kicking myself then... __________________

^I agree, I loved seeing all of the new interactions between the various grade tens and elevens:
-Alli playing poker with Adam and Jenna -Adam buying Dave condoms...and Imogen randomly picking up the box -Wesley almost hitting Drew, who's still touchy -The return of Liam, though to be honest I don't care about him. Wesley is on the fast track to being single by part two, but he's just ... endearing. And of course, the scene in detention between Bianca and Imogen. It was already painfully clear to us that Imogen is insecure, but it's another thing to have her acknowledge it herself. There must be an underlying issue there somewhere but I wonder if we're really going to get to see what that is. The same goes with Bianca, who I really like this season. It was good to see them finally follow up with her on her own (even if it's just a c plot) and see her in some moments of vulnerability. I feel genuinely bad that she has to deal with Vince all the time. I almost just quoted Nekoshoujo's entire paragraph about Bianca, but I'll just say I agree with it 100%. Obviously Alli's gambling isn't going to end well, but I think this fits her; she's book smart with the mechanics of poker but at the same time she's getting caught up in another scheme that's going to lead to trouble. I love how ambitious she is though. Dave was great as well, throwing the condoms onto the table at dinner. Definitely a classic Degrassi misunderstanding. All in all I liked part one, it was a refreshing change. __________________

As for Adam and Alli they've actually been friends for a bit. Remember they were on science team together last season? I think it's cool they're showing he still chills with them especially since he's friends with Dave. Ugh, I don't know why I've rambled on so much about an episode I didn't even care for. I need to learn how to play poker. Quote:

Aw, no SunDrop dance.
-I know I should appreciate the Wesley plot, but it felt really slow to me after having everything else happen this summer. Hannah became unlikeable to me in this episode. I thought Liam was a freshman? Oh, and hey Liam. I heard Sadie's single. I don't understand why even Wesley needs relationship drama now. And I agree with the 'who drives in crowded parking lots' thing. -Bianca and Imogen's friendship reminds me of the Alex and Ellie friendship from Queen of Hearts that the writers teased us with but never gave. I hope Bianca and Imogen continue to be friends, unlike Alex and Ellie. -I'm surprised Imogen wouldn't take the drugs to look cool, then flush them in the bathroom or something. But I guess description!Imogen and in-show!Imogen are two different people. -I don't really see why Dave should care about if Alli is going away for the summer or not, because it would be in-character for Dave to think she's going to spend the entire summer with 'nerds'. I know this means nothing but it bothers me how in The Power of Love, Jimmy left Hazel for basketball camp with like no remorse whatsoever and nobody said anything. But for Alli, her friends are acting like she's gonna be at a flirting seminar or something. I remember last year when Sandra Bullock won awards for The Blind Side and then her husband's affair was revealed, people were talking about how there's a study or something where if a woman is successful, their husband will get jealous and feel unappreciated or something, but if a guy wins an award, their wives won't care. I forgot what it's called, but I feel like that's what Alli is going to go through if she leaves. -I have a feeling more than half of the show's budget went to buying the rights for Pokerface. __________________

I felt like this ep was really... chill? That's not always bad though. I kinda loved that Drew was just there. I'm loving Imogen...just everything about her. Mainly because I know some people like her, and it's a rollercoaster, but sometimes it's fun....like the 1st 4 times. Then it really gets old.So yeah I like her.
I really love Ali and Dave....There just so freaking cute! I mean how can you not love them? I've been roting for them since season nine. I like Ali and jenna's friendship, but I just hate that Clares not there. She give pretty good advice too. Oh wess, Don't lie! Your going to become the next Imogen! |

You forgot to add this video to the main post.
I was going to wait til tomorrow to comment, but I'll do it now. Quote:
A-Plot: Nice, easy breezy plot which, of course will see the drama later. I'm finally glad Jahmil has been noticed and getting A-Plots, too bad at came at the expense of Connor. And I'm glad the writers also remember Alli is smart (I think she's a lot more gifted than Clare is really) which compliments her naive/no people smarts side. Her and Dave are a good match, now that I think about. B-Plot: Biacgen, I ship it. Yeah, I'm glad Imogen is away from Eli and is standing out on her own. And Bianca was really good here. Can't believe Vince is still after Drew, but Drew did get him in trouble with the cops. I think both the two characters have obvious self-esteem issues and I think it was a smart move to pair them up. C-Plot: I dunno, I quite liked this one. More of Hannah, who I'm starting to like more and more, and introduced a new character. Plus it was nice watching a guy get jealous for a little bit. __________________

I don't understand, since when were Wesley and Hannah actually together? I know Wesley has liked Hannah for awhile now, but did they just become boyfriend and girlfriend in this episode?
