Ash's last journal entry.

I knew all along it wasn't him. The things Craig did, well not so much the things he did but the scary temper swings that made him do them - it wasn't like him at all.
But he is different than the person I knew before, in a major way. Now the Craig I know is a person who is sick, who needs help to deal with his problems, problems he can't help, caused by his brain chemicals being out of order. There are drugs to help, Craig also needs people to help, and I'm going to be one of those people. I'm going to get my Craig back and keep him this time. I can help take care of him. For a long time, if I have to. I almost married him before he found out he was bipolar, and those feelings haven't changed since. Now I just have to convince my mom that I'm not sacrificing myself for someone else -- at least now she understands that Craig isn't just some unpredictable heartbreaker who likes to create drama just for the sake of it. Of course, she questioned everything Craig said and did surrounding the whole proposal thing, maybe it was just his disorder talking, maybe it wasn't really him saying he wanted to marry me...
I admit, it made me wonder...for about 10 seconds. After seeing Craig in the hospital and talking to him, I know that everything he said to and about me, how he loves me, how he wants to be with me, wasn't just something he said during one of his mood swings. Everything will be ok. I know it. I believe him. And the thing is

-- sorry, lost my train of thought. Just had to go check on my new horny aunt. Toby won't stop following her around. She goes to the airport tomorrow, thankfully...

Craig's last journal entry

couple journals back I was all going on and on about all the stuff you have to learn about what being bipolar means, the therapies, medications and treatments and all that awesome cool stuff (ok, I'll set the sarcasm aside for now) but not so fast, Craig! turns out there's a bigger lesson to learn.
Guess what? they say that for people like me the biggest challenge is the stigmatization. it's true. what it means is that once someone finds out that you have some form of psychological disorder like I do, they automatically treat you different than they would have even if you're not acting crazy or whatever. once they know about it, you become "one of those people". Of course, there are lots of people who get it, who don't judge you right away...but then there's the rest. That's what you call a stigma.
So obviously the best way to avoid the whole stigma thing is to keep it a secret, right? nobody knows = no stigma! which is why I was ready to tear Ash a new one when she sent me to a support group that she knew Ellie also goes to. Oh, hi Ellie, I'm just here for the free coffee. Yourself? Cover blown. Hello, my name is Craig and I'm a nut-job. I ask girls to marry me, then trash hotel rooms and punch my stepdad. HI CRAIG!

But it's not actually a joke. sure maybe not everyone has to know about me being bipolar but it's not like your closest friends arent gonna find out sooner or later. and the cool thing about a support group is that nobody there is going to judge or stigmatize you for being there since they're all there for some reason or other themselves. which means they can also relate to the things you are going through maybe better than someone who doesn't have the same kinds of things to deal with every day.
It blows my mind how much Ash still cares even after I dragged her through the nightmare of my total freakout, after I kind of wrecked her dad's wedding reception and the whole marriage proposal incident. she cares enough to risk making me p'd off at her which must me a lot. And I'm supposed to be the crazy one...
