Open Heart discussion- Yes, this is cool kids club. But, don't call it that.

Open Heart
Tuesdays 9:00 PM ET on YTV and TeenNick, starting Jan. 20th.

Quote:
In the wake of her father’s disappearance, 16-year-old Dylan Blake falls in with the wrong crowd, gets arrested, and earns court-ordered community service volunteering at Open Heart Memorial, the hospital where her mother and sister are doctors and where her grandparents are board members and benefactors. All Dylan has to do is follow the rules. The hospital is the last place her father was seen alive and while most people think it’s a straightforward case of abandonment, Dylan doesn’t believe that and sets out to prove something bad happened to her father. Putting her old delinquent skills back into service, Dylan and her new friends--the bright and gossipy Mikayla (Cristine Prosperi) and the handsome charmer Wes (Justin Kelly)—start looking into her dad's disappearance, unearthing a trail of clues that lead them to some very unexpected places.

In the hour-long series premiere, “Last Things First,” Dylan starts community service at Open Heart Memorial. She begins a covert investigation into her dad’s disappearance and tries to get her hands on hospital SECURITY footage from the day he disappeared. Meanwhile, Dylan’s sister London struggles with the pressure her mother, Dr. Jane Blake, puts on her at work.

Open Heart reunites Degrassi stars and introduces a crop of newcomers with a cast that includes: Karis Cameron as Dylan Blake, Tori Anderson as Dr. London Blake, Justin Kelly as Wes Silver, Cristine Prosperi as Mikayla Walker, Kevin McGarry as Dr. Timothy "HUD" Hudson, Patrick Kwok-Choon as Seth Park, Jenny Cooper as Dr. Jane Blake, Demore Barnes as Dr. Dominic Karamichaelidis, Elena Juatco as Scarlet, Mena Massoud as Jared, Dylan Everett as Teddy and Jeff Douglas as Richard Blake.

Viewers can immerse themselves in the narrative with a unique digital component that extends their on-air involvement with immediate and exclusive content that places them in the center of the mystery. The Open Heart: Unlocked! app, launching January 2015 on iOS and Android, allows fans to join the plot during and in between episodes to keep up with Dylan’s ongoing investigation. The app unlocks Dylan’s phone so viewers can scour her text messages, photo gallery and SOCIAL MEDIAaccounts to learn more about her private life and study the clues she collects. The Open Heart website (Open Heart Teaser Page) CONTINUES the journey with exclusive character confessions and episodic bonus features. Viewers can also visit TeenNick.com, TeenNick’s Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr for additional Open Heart content.

With the talent both behind and in front of the camera, it only makes sense that a number of us would be interested in discussing this show.

So here's your place to talk things all Open Heart.

Hey guys! I know it's been a while since I've been on, but yeah. This show looks interesting and I like Justin and Christine enough to support them, but I don't get TeenNick anymore and I'm still skeptical of anything with Epitome involved, so I don't know if I'll watch. I mean, the writers have a fresh slate to work with so maybe I'll catch the pilot. I'm not promising anything though, mainly because I have a terrible track record of watching shows on my own. I never even finished the Chloe and Raymond web series from last year. Then again, if I gave season 3 of South of Nowhere a chance, anything is possible!

I see Justin is still goofing around though, so at least we'll see more of him this time around. Are all of them supposed to be sixteen? I never thought I'd complain about cast ages but Dylan playing sixteen is a stretch.

Really? I think the one that does not look sixteen is Justin. He looks to be in his early twenties (probably because he actually is). I don't think he can pull off sixteen. Dylan looks younger than he actually is (I believe he's almost in his early twenties as well) so I think he can pull off sixteen.

I'm not blown away by the promos, but I enjoyed both Instant Star and L.A. Complex, plus I look forward to seeing Justin, Cristine and Dylan in something new so I'll check it out at least. I wasn't blown away by L.A. Complex's promos either and just watched that for Cassie and I loved it from the first episode.

Haha, I meant as in Dylan's actress Karis, I forgot Dylan Everett was gonna be on and didn't know Karis's name, my bad! I think Dylan E. could definitely play a sixteen year old, and Karis and Christine I guess I can look over, but Justin is too old at this point. I don't think they said he was a teenager, but I don't know.

That reminds me, I need to watch the LA Complex...

I'm not sure how the hospital fits in with the whole show outside of structuring it in a procedural way but I'll give this show a shot.

Reminded me too. I checked and it's available on Netflix! Guess I know what I'll be bingewatching in the near future.

Open Heart does not look appealing to me at all based on the commercials I've seen, but I'll check it out just because. I LOVED Instant Star, for what it's worth (although it got pretty bad near the end).

I'm still boycotting LA Complex because of Degrassi Goes Hollywood. Anymore bitter and I would be a lemon.

I kinda wish that that other hospital show Epitome pitched was happening instead. St...St. Bridge's? St. Brigid's!
Quote:
TORONTO -- Canadian producer Epitome Pictures has started to shoot the half-hour medical drama pilot "St. Brigid's" for the N in the U.S. market and Canadian youth cable channel YTV.

Filmed on location in Toronto, "St. Brigid's" follows a group of young hospital volunteers as they struggle to balance personal lives and ambitions.

Sturla Gunnarsson ("Degrassi: The Next Generation) is directing the pilot, which stars Brittany Allen, Landon Liboiron, Greta Onieogou and Jonathan Payne.

Executive producer credits go to Linda Schuyler, Stephen Stohn and Emily Andras

Wow. That was 2008. Did this ever air? It sounds more down to earth than this teen mystery but I'll watch anyway. I'll just rationalize it as a replacement for St. Brigid's and The Hub's Clue mini series (that had Ana as the Miss Scarlett character).

Wow, that one had Landon in his pre-Degrassi days. I never knew that Degrassi wasn't his first Epitome project.

Maybe it's because I've had some people close to me spend too much time in hospitals in recent years, but I've generally been avoiding hospital/medical shows. This one looks like it could be interesting, though.

Oh and I'm also interested in seeing Cristine in a non-Imogen role.

Maybe St. Brigid's morphed into Open Heart while in Development Hell, I mean, this show has hospital volunteers as well....

I'm not seeing how the father-mystery plays into the plot, like it would seem like it's an unneeded complication to the plot and the hospital volunteers part seems interesting by itself.

Well, I'm assuming that while exploring that mystery Dylan will uncover an even bigger mystery.

A couple newish promos.

I don't think I've sat down and watched (like concentrated on) one Open Heart promo. I should do that. So I don't know if anything I've seen linked to on twitter has been posted here or not.

When at the Open Heart IMDB page I saw that Jacob Neayem is credited as Donnie Mara. So we will get to see Mo again too. Jake and Mo reunion?

Dropping off a few articles in advance of tomorrow's premiere. I haven't had a chance to read any of them just yet, so I don't know how spoilery they may or may not be.

Monsters and Critics interviews Mena Massoud, who plays Jared, head of the hospital volunteers.

NY Observer talks to Executive Producer Ramona Barckert.

Toronto Sun review.
