Help a child affected by Hurricane Katrina!
This is a great idea, stuff a backpack for a child affected by Hurricane Katrina. So many of these kids have nothing, let alone school supplies and I'm sure they need to get some back to "normal" as soon as possible.
http://www.dosomething.org/challenge...rina/index.php It's so simple and easy. Just go to any store and pick up a backpack and supplies and mail it off. And I'm sure a lot of stores have school supplies on clearance! They always say "give cash," but I like giving something tangible much more. |

That's so great. Out of all of the things my little cousin brought with him he took his new backpack. He loves it. He wore it nonstop for a week before school started. He lost all his supplies though. The water it still past his roof. I'm so glad someone thought about doing this for the kids here. That's one thing all of them lost even if they got out and took some stuff with them.

Definately. We went downstairs today and there was this room off to the side they sent us in. It had clothes and toys and books and games. Things I used to take for granted. Never again. We sat upstairs today and colored in coloring books and blowing scented bubbles. That was the first fun we've had in a week. I also got some toothpaste and Johnson's shampoo. I got to bathe my poodle. He was delighted. That's one of the only shampoos I can use on him. There was this raggedy pink bear holding roses and I just knew my great gram would love it. It was rosed colored with a maroon ribbon and trim. I brought it up and she started holding it and saying how she loved it and if they had another cuz she wanted one. I told her I'd gotten it for her and she smiled the the first time in a week. She named her Katrina. Something so small seemed to give her so much more hope. She's sleeping with it right now. She admired it until she went to bed.

Great idea... I'll try and pick stuff up next time I got to the store.
What are they doing about schooling for the kids whose homes and schools are inaccessable? __________________

Well I know that here in Texas they told us they're allowing the kids to continue without proof if they know they'll be here a while. Some schools in LA are still there and will be taking kids from all over.

A lot of school districts will be letting the kids enroll, however, it's going to have strain on the school budgets. Let's all do our part to help out in whatever way we can!
