Evanescence - The Poets Corner - "Mary had a Lamb, His Eyes Black as Coal."

In this thread write a poem in the chosen category and, since I started this thread, I will pick the first theme which is - NIGHT...so write a poem about the "night". Here's mine:

What night?
Velvet black and jewels of white!
Softening our Mother for the morning light.
Rest you now, shadowed orb
And dwell, lovingly, in this nocturnal rite.

Come and play, dark demons
Who crawl and fly and take what's yours.
To you there are no closed doors.
Seek you the nourishment of the dark.
Until dawn, again, will steal your sight.

Sentients, in the forests dwell
And prey upon the innocent souls
That cast shadows in the lunar light
And scatter death upon the shoals
To seal, with blood, a silent spell.

I sit and watch by fire's glow
The dancing rhythms on the trees
Lamenting strains that I should know
Failing in the boreal breeze
Halcyon tidings begin to flow
To entertain the shrouded sylph
Retreats and utters soft refrain...What night?

In school, writing poetry saved me from the "dummy" class but i wish i could write lyrics...it always comes out poetry!

I would not doubt you are good! Why don't you write it in Bulgarian and then translate it to English?

Because I will lose the rhythm and the rhyme, and that's what matter the most in a poem... I mean, except the meaning. But I could write it in Roman alphabet and than translate it, so, if you want, you could read it in Bulgarian and then see what I meant.

This world must pass.
All these things are mortal,

With a grace it'll fall on a chair,

I don't think it's ok... And in BG it sounds more... Meaningful.

You are right, Janie, it is not OK...it is damn wonderful!

You are very talented, it seems, in many ways and modest about it - a very nice combination...please keep writing and translating; It really doesn't lose anything in the translation, IMHO.
