Yeah I wasn't too happy either - its a shame, nothing beats the buzz around the country when England are at a major tournament

Thats true about the Olympics I think

Here's the rule:

Since 1992, the IOC has changed the rules again to make the Olympic Soccer tournament an Under 23 competition while allowing three over-age players into each national squad. Players are allowed to be professionals now and the current rules have allowed players such as Ronaldo, Carlos Tevez and Alberto Gilardino to compete.

Cool, thanks Larry

I don't think the Olympics will ever be as important to national teams as The World Cup. I just hope England are at the next World Cup well with Mr Capello in charge we should be okay

Yeah I got into the World Cup more but also watched all the Olympic football...The World Cup is like our Super Bowl.

I understand absoloutely nothing about American Football.

Yeah thats the rule Larry thanks, I just think that cause most of the players are young and unknown then its never gonna become much of a big deal really, though of course for countries like mine getting into even the olympics football is quite an achievement.

I hope were in the next world cup too, we were in the last one and it was great to see our boys playing against the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Figo.

Well Figo and Ronaldo both played in the Olympics...you see the rule states that each team can have 3 players that are over 23 and since most teams only have one or two superstars, all of the superstars played on their national teams.

No, I would never talk American Football here...it's only popular over here and a totally different sport, related more to Rugby actually.

Yeah football, as in soccer, isn't very popular in your country right Larry ??

Most Americans I've ever talked to about the game can't understand how a 90 minute game can end 0-0

Yes I know that but the olympics are still mainly about new players, and are missing a load of the actually good players and besides with the olympics the focus is and always will be on the other events, the martial arts fights and stuff, so the football is easily over shadowed.

Jack - I take it you dont watch football.

On the high school level it is very popular but not as a sport anyone would pay to see. We have the pro league called the MLS but it doesn't do that well financially...that's why the Los Angeles MLS team gave Beckham 125 million bucks, to try to increase interest in the sport...it did not work however!

Yes Jack, we mean soccer, is it famous in Australia?

Hehe, Beckham was a mistake it seems, it was weird how he decided to leave Real Madrid for money, its not like he needs it anyways.

It's definently getting bigger, but I think it's still considered a "sissy" sport by most.

Rugby/Cricket seems to be our major sports.

.

We have some good Australian players in our league Jack! Tim Cahill, Mark Viduka and Harry Kewell are probably the most famous

Thats right Larry - I lost all respect for David Beckham when he went to MLS, for the money and because his wife likes the shopping
