Bethany Joy - Episode Discussion 6.07: Joy/Haley in "Messin' With The Kid"

LUCAS AND PEYTON ADJUST TO LIFE AS A COUPLE — Nathan (James Lafferty) and Haley (Bethany Joy Galeotti) must parent Jamie (Jackson Brundage) in the face of a school bully, while Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) and Peyton (Hilarie Burton) adjust to life as a live-in couple. Brooke (Sophia Bush) finds being a role model not as easy as she expected, and Mouth (Lee Norris) tries to get his old job back.

I won't get to see the episode for a few more hours yet but I have heard we got some cute little NHJ moment? I'm so excited now. I can't wait to watch!

Meh. It wasn't as awful as some of the last few episodes but it wasn't great. The NHJ was cute, NH actually touching was cute... there was a whole lot of cute but not much else. Joy and Grace as the coda would've sucked less minus all of the other characters encroaching on Joy rocking out.

I really liked the episode, it's my favorite one since 602. I loved all the NHJ/NH/HJ in it, and I even liked the LP too for a change which is weird because usually I find myself just zoning out during their scenes

I can't wait to go back and rewatch the clips when they go up, I was kind of distracted during the episode so I know there is stuff I need to see again to make more comments.

I'm still watching (boo to dance!) but I liked that little song Haley sang to Jamie about being late for school, and then her haiku was cute. I shall report back when I'm done watching.

For serious. She was such an afterthought in this episode. Again. What a surprise.

Who the heck cares about Sam anyways? What a conclusion for Haley's music arc in the episode. It gets like 3 mentions in scenes, mostly in passing and then like 15 seconds of footage of her singing with Grace. So lame.

Well that was...interesting?

The episode wasn't bad per say but it definitely was lame. I would have appreciated if the writers didn't lay the Jamie drama on so thick -- one life-altering tragedy at a time folks. And again, here I was, Silly-Sam thinking Haley's protectiveness over Jamie would stem from her fear of losing him but the episode didn't even touch base with that.

That N/B scene? Again Mark, you fool me not. I see right through youuuu.

Wow, I'm shocked. The NH scene on the couch was ... semi decent. They were *gasp* touching. I didn't think they still knew how to do that.

Ughhh I'm watching the coda again. This annoys me so bad. You can't hear them singing, like at all. So effing lameeeee.

I did like the Haiku, the little song at the beginning, and I thought the NHJ scenes were cute. While I do hate that the other characters were talking over the song at the end (reminded me exactly of when Halo first played), I was kind of surprised that Haley's music career was mentioned from beginning to end. Although I really would have loved to see more of an arc with it, I think I was expecting something less from the beginning and therefore was surprised. It's sad when you start to expect so little from a show!

The episode would have been so much better if they didn't play over the ISWTIW coda. Like it's just so unnecessary. Why couldn't they just show them playing and show less LP and Brooke/Sam or Mouth and his women? They had like tons of scenes that could have been trimmed or deleted just to show Haley/Grace playing. It's not that hard to show a 2 minute song from beginning to end.

Joy was great in the episode. Although, erm, when is she not?

I liked the NH scenes. They were flirty and cute. After all the drama we've had lately, it's nice seeing them be happy for a change ... supporting the other and communicating. Like others have mentioned though, it would have been nice to see more footage of Haley and Grace singing. It's a beautiful song!
