I wasn't sure which thread the following comments would be most appropriate so I decided I would put it in this one since it pertains to Ben's acting, and this is his current role.

I think that Ben is a VERY UNDERRATED actor, and I just don't get why he doesn't get more credit. It seems like he is always overshadowed by somebody who doesn't deserve it--for example, to most people it seemed like it was all about Adam Brody on the OC. Is it because the characters he plays tend to be more subtle and complicated, and thus requires a deeper person to understand them? I just don't get it! Seriously! I really hope he gets more credit for Season 2 of Southland--maybe the world will wake up and finally recognize his talent... being nominated for an Emmy award would be nice.

The underratedness is not just in his acting though and that bugs me too! I feel that Ben is very underrated in EVERYTHING--the looks department too. I know plenty of people that don't like to acknowledge that he is attractive and won't even give him a second glance (and think I'm crazy because I like him so much)... I know people that NEVER found him remotely attractive on the OC. For these types of girls it's all about Robert Pattinson, Adam Brody, Jensen Ackles, Chad Michael Murray, Hayden Christiansen (EWW), and others like that, etc. And many that I talk to that do find Ben cute automatically rate him lower just because he's short (that pissed me off too! Why is being his height such a bad thing?) Hell... on most polls, when Ben is listed--almost everyone else will get more votes and comments than him unless we dedicated fans do something about that (I just don't get it honestly! Why aren't there more fans like us who love him to death? It seems like these other actors have way more fans...) I can understand people preferring Christian Bale or Ed Norton or more established actors with manlier looks, but these other guys? Although I will acknowledge that out of those guys I mentioned I think that Jensen Ackles is gorgeous and I think Adam is really cute (and I love him to death); but, for me, Ben's acting, talent, off the screen charm, and looks puts him in a league of his own. I hear people always saying that they don't like "blonde" guys or that Ben has too much of a generic look, but his hair is BARELY blonde (it's more like dark blonde/very light brown to me) and his look is FAR from generic--I rarely see guys with similar features or smile.

Ohhhh well... at least I have you girls so I know I'm not crazy for admiring this guy so much. :/

why EWW to Hayden Christiansen? i think he's good looking apparently. i would EWW to CMM who needs a surgery to repair his face totally. i think CMM's fans must be pretty upset or pissed off if they know my comment on him.LOL! they and we come from different planets so there's no need to communicate.

unless you can become a superb agent or spielberg. then you can do anything to make him huge. just like god said, Let there be light, and there was light.

I think that during the first two seasons of the OC Ben was indeed underrated. Part of that was because a lot of OC fans seemed to have watched the show only for the couples and the romantic storylines and since SS were more popular than RM, Ben didn’t get the appreciation that he deserved. I think that often people's dislike for a couple or a character make them make assumptions about the actors behind the characters, like with Ben, I remember that in the first two seasons I always read posts that said that he is a bad actor. Combined that with Ben being such a low key kind of guy that doesn’t go to a lot of events and doesn’t get his pictures in the tabloid all the time and you'll get a very talented and underrated actor.

That being said, I actually think that Ben really made a name for himself in the last few years, it started when "Junebug" came out and Ben got many compliment about his acting, far more than the other OC cast ever got, and not just on The OC. and then he got a part in a movie with Al Pacino, he got a better love interest on The OC (Taylor) and made people look at him in a different way. and then in the last few years, the good reviews for "JGHG" and "Southland" and "The Eight Percent" winning the Delta's Fly-In Movies competition really added a lot to his reputation as an actor.

I'm actually proud of Ben for letting his job do the talking for him and that he didn’t go out and made millions of magazines covers and tried to promote himself like this. I think that a lot of people that didn’t think much of him in his early OC years gained a lot of respect for him because of it.

As for his look; I always said that someone's perception of beauty is very subjective. Some people think that Pamela Anderson, for example, is gorgeous, and I always thought that not only is she not even remotely attractive, she's also kind of ugly, she always looked tacky and cheap to me

I guess the same apply with Ben. some people, like us, thinks he's a very attractive guy, while other think that he's not, or that Adam is the better looking one (personally, I always thought Adam is very plain looking) but from what I can tell, most people DO find Ben attractive! When I google his name, I see people drooling over his pics all the time. and for what it worth, I don’t think Ben look generic at all. I actually think that all the other guys you mentioned probably fit the standard Hollywood hot guy mould way more than Ben.

I feel that Ben is a lot more appreciated on Southland than he ever was on The OC, his character is a lot more popular and Ben is consider to be one of the more talented actors on the cast (of very talented people), from what I can tell most people find him attractive too. So I don’t feel he's underrated on Southland like he was often on The OC. part of it is because his character is better, anther part of it is that the writing is better, but I think a major part of it is because the viewers are more mature and know a good actor when they see one.

I totally agree with you said.

What make me love this boy even more is how he does avoid the public eye!.
I mean just even with what Michal's quote says in her sig!.
He wants to avoid that and make a better name for himself and he has done a really good job.

I just think some people are very blind to Ben's true talent and how truly wonderful and handsome he really is! Sadly they miss out on him. But that's what just makes Ben even more special.
