- From nypost -- Ryan's TV Return

Benjamin McKenzie, the brooding young star of "The O.C.," is in serious talks to do a new series, "LAPD," from the creator of "ER," John Wells, according to reports.
The cop series for NBC would be McKenzie’s first TV role since the teen soap went off the air two years ago.
The boy of a few words packed many punches with his female fans as Ryan Atwood, a troubled teen adopted by a wealthy Newport family, on "The OC."
"LAPD" will center on a group of Los Angeles cops: Regina King ("24," "Ray") will play a smart detective in the Hollywood division; Michael McGrady ("Day Break," "The Thin Red Line") is set to play a detective who works gang crimes and obsesses over the well-being of his family; and Kevin Alejandro ("Shark," "Ugly Betty") will play a young detective and family man.
- From TV Guide -- NBC's LAPD Books Three Stars
John Wells – the mighty force behind The West Wing and ER – has cast his new LAPD project with Regina King, Kevin Alejandro and Michael McGrady for NBC.
According to The Hollywood Reporter , King will play Lydia, a smart, sympathetic detective in the Hollywood division. Alejandro will play Nate, a detective who is happily married with several kids and McGrady will play a detective who deals primarily with gang-related crimes and is obsessed with his family's safety.
All that's missing is the wise-cracking "goofball" character, but it's still early in the casting process. What's Justin Long up to these days?

McKenzie, who starred as Ryan Atwood in FOX's teen soap, is talking with NBC about joining the cast of its drama pilot "LAPD." The show has also cast Regina King, Michael McGrady and Kevin Alejandro, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The show would be McKenzie's first TV work since "The O.C." bowed out in 2007. He appeared in the Al Pacino movie "88 Minutes" earlier this year and recently finished work on an indie-film production of "Johnny Got His Gun."

- The O.C.’s Benjamin McKenzie joins NBC pilot LAPD

One of my favorite actors, Benjamin McKenzie, who played Ryan Atwood on The O.C., has officially joined the cast of the NBC pilot LAPD, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
An ensemble cop drama from ER executive producer John Wells (John Wells Production) and Warner Bros. TV, LAPD (you guessed it!) follows a group of Los Angeles officers. McKenzie will plan reserved rookie cop Ben (I guess he’ll get to use his real name!).
I’m excited to finally hear about McKenzie, as it seemed Adam Brody (The O.C.) got all the fame when the FOX show ended. But McKenzie didn’t totally fall off the face of the earth — he’s appeared in indie movies Junebug and 88 Minutes, as well as signing on for the film adaptation of Dalton Trumbo’s Johnny Got His Gun. But I for one am glad to see him coming back to the small screen (hopefully).
Regina King (24, Jerry Maguire), Kevin Alejandro (Shark) and Michael McGrady (Daybreak) also have been cast. I love Regina King too — no one can show attitude quite like her.
In addition, Michael Cudlitz (Lost, Big Mike) will play Ben’s training officer. Shawn Hatosy (who played the jock on the 1998 sci-fi movie The Faculty), will play Sammy, a newlywed cop with marriage troubles.
King will play Lydia, a smart, sympathetic detective. Alejandro will play Nate, a detective who is married with three kids and another on the way. McGrady will play Sal, a detective who works gang-related crimes and is obsessed with his family’s safety.
There’s no word on any time table for the show, but let’s hope it’s soon! I need my Benjamin McKenzie fix! The O.C.’s Benjamin McKenzie joins NBC pilot LAPD
- Ben was mention in this upcoming week's TV Guide:
There will be a bounty of new premieres in mid-season.
There's a comment about the writers' strike delaying program development and limiting the number of new shows ready for fall. Then there's this:
NBC has prospects in the pipeline, including the crime drama LAPD with The OC's Benjamin McKenzie. ben_support: LAPD news
- Ben talks about LAPD on Austin360.com
The other good news from busy McKenzie: He’s filming an NBC pilot from John Wells (“ER,” “Saving Grace,” “The West Wing”) that is tentatively titled “L.A.P.D.” The cop drama hasn’t officially been picked up yet, but Wells doesn’t get many rejections, so it’s likely to be on NBC’s midseason schedule.
McKenzie, who turned 30 on Sept. 12, has played lots of different roles in his young career, but a cop isn’t one of them.
“This is pretty much the direct opposite of what I’ve been doing,” he said. “Right now I’m learning how to shoot.” Austin entertainment, events, food, movies, music | Austin360.com

- John Wells to talk about LAPD in annual awards banquet to be held today at the Beverly Hills Hotel

In its 34th year of existence, the Humanitas Prize will soon embark on an ambitious new program of script development, philanthropic partnerships and, if all goes right, actual production.
"There was a very specific objective in the establishment of the organization, and it was not simply to give away some cash every year," says "ER" and "The West Wing" executive producer John Wells, who accepted the position of Humanitas president less than a month ago. (Acting president Father Frank Desiderio is being promoted to chairman of the board, and Cathleen Young continues as executive director.)
Beyond that, there are plans for a Humanitas Presents franchise to produce original material and serve as a de facto "Good Housekeeping Seal" for quality broadcast and cable TV entertainment. Wells, who is now working on a new show for NBC titled "LAPD," promises details at the annual awards banquet, to be held today at the Beverly Hills Hotel, which marks both a calendar and venue change.
