right back at ya, Leanne.
Claire, I just read through the posts I missed yesterday, caught up in my haze. I love it-we're Team Space Traveler. Yeah, I think the US is pretty sue happy. It's ridiculous, but, I'd have still been in a bed anyway. Of course, the first time I went to the ER they sent me home with a fractured hip...but, they took me to the car in a wheelchair. ETA-am I the only left-handed person here? #WhereIsKia __________________

That's crazy though, they took you to the car in a wheelchair but couldn't tell that you'd broken it!
I once had a private room after my second birth, because the ward was full. I was excited at first, woo hoo! a room by myself! But I got terribly lonely. I really missed being on a ward. Luckily I was only there for a night. When I was in with my first I was there for 8 days due to the fact I nearly died, and perhaps being on a ward was actually helpful. As for health and safety, I was most annoyed to be told I wasn't allowed to walk around with my baby. When I wanted to go make myself some breakfast I always had to wheel the baby down the corridor in the cot everytime, and to change or bathe the baby, although my husband was doing that most of the time. Eta I miss Kia, too. I'm right handed. __________________

When you are in a ward, is it just one person you share a room with? Or, is it a huge open room with lots of beds and people? I've never had a room with someone else. Just one bed. YOU ALMOST DIED??? Oh man...I did not know that.
I also didn't know that you had to do that with kids there. Here kids and moms are in their own room, and food is always brought to them. __________________

Kia once was here, and then left for two years before returning last summer! So I guess she gets busy!
Kim, I'm a southpaw too Yeah, over here, we don't have wards but rooms, although some rooms have like 4 beds in them. Unless you have a private room! Aww, Kim, you're talking to two people who likely cheated death fortunately I think I need to go to sleep so I can get up at 6:50 am, so have fun Kim and Claire! Love you guys sleep tight and have a good breakfast! and __________________

The only food brought to me was lunch and dinner which were cooked. You had to go get your own breakfast, unless you were bed bound of course. Some women couldn't walk around after operations.
Yes there were two large maternity wards in that hospital I suppose about a dozen patients in each one. Yes I had an eclamptic fit after my first birth. The worst thing was I was put on observation back in the delivery ward overnight, which meant I got no food at all. The midwife couldn't get through to my husband who was exhausted after being up all night, so I gave her the number of my mum in law, and she got through to him. I was desperate to see him, and soon as he arrived he went to a machine and got a load of snacks for me! He was a lifesaver! The delivery ward was not set up to feed patients as that is for the maternity ward. __________________

I worry about Kia, because she was pretty stressed last time we saw her.
Ha! That's funny we're both lefties. We supposedly use the opposite sides of our brains that right handed people. We march to the beat of our own drummer. At least that's what I've read. I'm seriously happy you both cheated death. Night night Leanne. It's way past your bedtime. Sweet dreams. Claire, JINX! I am not a talker, so people around me would drive me insane. Plus-noise. I don't do well with noise Your hospitals sound terribly unprepared for people in the observation area to be able to eat. We had snacks between meals, or really any time we wanted to ring for them. That's probably why hospital stays are more expensive here. Your husband is a rock star. __________________

I didn't have a clue what southpaw meant, then.
As I say that hospital has been demolished now, there's a helipad where it once stood. But the Victorian type wards are still around other places. It did have private rooms as I said, but you had to pay for those, I didn't because the ward was full, but they did try to charge me. I didn't like the noise. But on balance I liked having people to talk to. They seemed quite unprepared for having that happen to me. I had no help the next morning, and no help with the baby, it was lucky I could get out of bed. It also didn't help they'd left my bags on the ward, so I had no nappies. I kept asking for them, and they'd come back saying I didn't have any. I'm saying you must have looked in the wrong bag! Eventually I persuaded someone to bring my bags down so I could change her. Good night Leanne. __________________

Southpaw is left-handed's nickname. I was asking if I'm the only left-handed person here. And, you may have figured that out and I'm too tired to notice.
Claire, that's awful that treatment was that way. It does make me question Universal Health Care now. Here you're charged no matter where you are. When I went in with my fractured hip, two weeks before it broke, they wheeled me into the hallway of the ER, and left me there. It's all a shame. I hate that you went through that. Okay, it's an hour past when I planned to go to bed. Another round of calls in the morning. I'll be back when I've taken care of some of that, and regained my sanity from it. Have a good morning/afternoon Claire. __________________

It's awful they treated you that way, Kim. I'm certain here you would have gotten an x-ray and proper treatment.
With me, I don't mind, I get why it was that way, they couldn't keep a close eye on me in the Maternity ward, and I guess there were women giving birth there during the night so they couldn't take me back until the morning. It was an unusual circumstance, really. I was really glad to be in there as I'd opted for a home birth until my blood pressure went up, and I had to go to hospital. The fact I was there probably saved my life, so I've nothing to complain about. Sleep well, Kim! I hope you have better luck with phonecalls in the morning. __________________

Good day!!
Claire, do you have high blood pressure in everyday life? I always thought if I got pregnant, I'd be in danger of having the same thing you had! Glad you pulled through. I don't think I'd like wards. Too many people being able to look at me and I can't sleep through noise! Hope you had a good sleep Kim and listened to some more metal to pump you up for those calls, I hope those are almost done for your day! With some success!! I'm just at work, typical work day! __________________

Claire, you considered a midwife? Is that practiced a lot there? I'm sure it is here, we just never hear about it. Either way, I'm very happy everything turned out well for you. Cause that turned out well for us.
Leanne How did you sleep? Are you busy with books? SCORE for me. I was given number after number, well, at each one I listened to every single option for an extension. On the very last one, I found an extension to reach the offices here of who owns all of the hospitals, and my Dr's office included. So, now, instead of having to fill out dozens of forms, they will provide them all. I'm trying to not get too excited, because it's still all in the timing. I'll still have to hand write all of the records, but, I won't have to fill out a bunch of forms to get all of them. __________________

Wow, SCORE, Kim!!!! Happy dance!!! That's great!!!! Glad for you that it will save you that time!! Whew!!!
I did sleep well!! And I'm busy putting books away and also its the last week here to take out books. So its my last circulation with them mostly today! I have the windows open for fresh air, but these weed whacker guys arrived and it was pretty loud here for a bit, but I think they moved further away now! I haven't had any coffee yet and its half hour til noon. The coffee machine is broken or something here! __________________

Me, too. And I won't have to find a ride to an hour away just to drop the form off, and then another hour to go back there to pick up my files.
Ooh, I love the smell of cut grass and weeds. I have never seen a school that had windows that opened. That's cool! Sounds like your "people" work is winding down there. Sigh, and I get to get out of the house tomorrow evening, or sometime Thursday. I need to figure out where I can get copies of all the pages I'll be sending to Social Security. Probably the library has a copy machine. Need to drop in there and find out how much it is per page, and what change I'll need. if they even still work that way. __________________

That's good news, Kim! I hope you're feeling relieved somewhat.
All births here are midwife-led Kim. The obstetrician only gets involved when there are complications with the pregnancy, or birth. I only had high blood pressure that one time Leanne. Just been for a run. I had a long walk today too. It makes up for all those lazy days I had recently. My son had his first session with the tutor today. He enjoyed it and it seemed to go well. Our local library does copies, Kim. __________________

Thanks.
Oh that's cool to know! I had no idea-side effect of never having had a baby. That's awesome Claire! I'm glad you got some fresh air, and TWO kinds of exercise. Go you! That is fabulous to hear, about your son's first tutoring session. __________________
