X-Files Discussion - What was the show's worst moment?

Now on this forum we love to go on about how great the show is but it had its dodgy moments as well, and I just wondered what would you say was the worst moment of the show?

Now this can be an episode, a moment, a storyline etc. I was going to say we could even stretch it to include whole seasons but I think that would just bring a barrage of people yelling "Season 8!!!" and "Season 9!!!"

For me the worst moment was from the 9th season episode "Jump the Shark." Why oh why did Chris Carter have to kill off the Lone Gunmen?!!! What did it acheive?

If you wanted to make them heroes fine but I don't really see what was acheived by having them die in the process. It just doesn't seem right to kill of your comedy relief. It's not as if there death really affected the show, there were only a few episodes of the show left so we didn't see anyone having a tough time dealing with their death or anything

It was just wrong!!!

I've finally seen ALL the episodes! It took me only about 4 months
I remember being really disappointed that there was very little of Mulder to see in S8 and 9, but then I grew quite fond of John D. I agree that the death of the LG was pointless. And I didn't like the fact that Scully gave up her son for adoption. She went through so many things to have a child in the first place and then just turned her back on William. I understand the reasons behind it, but it kinda felt like the producers were hoping for a 10th season and then had to wrap up all the loose end as best as they could in S9.
And I didn't like Monica at all... so very different from Scully

I haven't seen a lot of seasons 8 or 9 but from what I've heard there was a lot of stuff I wouldn't like. Do know I wasn't too happy with the whole "super soldier" thing. It could have been good, but I think it was just focused on too much. When one story becomes the sole focus of a show, any show, it starts to stagnate. I feel like before the super soldiers there were always a lot of things going on. There were always underlying themes throughout the show, but they weren't always the main focus of every single episode like the super soldiers were for a while.

Yeah the super soldiers storyline wasn't exactly very original or indeed entertaining

Sunshine days? That was just painful.

And once DD left the show and that whole season 8 and 9 SLs with Doggett and Reyes started up, the whole show felt off and just so different. Like it wasn't XF anymore.

For me the show's worst moments were definitely in the late seasons(8 and 9). Though I watched them, I wasn't that fond of them. Dogett and Reyers never really grew on to me, I tried to like them but I couldn't...I dunno why.
The big mistakes, or bad moments, were when Scully gave William away. That made to sense to me, she could've protected him much better than the people he was given to. Like my best friend always says, they could've bulit a little house out of that rock that the supersoldiers couldn't destroy

Another weak moment was the death of the Lone Gunmen. That really wasn't necessary and I think pretty much every fan hated CC for killing them off.

Those are the major mistakes for me.

I've not seen 8 or 9 as yet, although I'll be buying them simply to complete my collection! I'm annoyed that the Lone Gunmen were killed off-what was the point? I think for me, I could've done without the Kill Switch episode... Really didn't get that one!

Well pretty much every negative moment seems to have come from the last 2 seasons, not a huge surprise

Yeah season 9 was a bit disappointing for me too and the worst was the LG's death and William's adoption. Scully deserves her child!
I think Robert Patrick and Annabeth Gish did a great job though. Of course they were different to Mulder and Scully but that was kinda the point, not everyone can have the same character - that would be boring too

For me the show with Reyers and Dogett just didn't feel like the X-Files anymore. It was like a different show that featured Scully Seriously, that was what really runied it in these last two seasons. You can't just make different people the main characters of a long running tv series...it gave the whole show a different feel. Though the XF feeling came back immediately when Scully and Mulder appeared on screen .

worst moment for me was when there was no more mulder. bar none for obvious reasons. the show wasn't ever the same without him. he was the soul of the series.

second worst moment was when scully had to give up baby william. why did she have to do that? it didn't have to be like that.

I agree that it wasn't the same with Doggett and Reyes but they weren't there to replace anyone, they were just a support for Scully. Of course it wasn't the same without Mulder, that goes without saying. But I just think we shouldn't be too hard on D & R. In my opinion they were good characters even though they weren't the main characters

Yeah I was a little surprised to see someone say Kill Switch. I don't think it's a classic but certainly a good little episode. I would say there are a lot of other episodes I'd mention before that as the show's worst moment.

My favourite part of that episode is a bit of trivia, Mulder's nurse was actually played by a real porn star. A little nod to his porn obsession
