X-Files Discussion - If the show returned with Doggett and Reyes would you watch?

I'm just wondering if The X-Files was to be resurrected and return to our TV screens, but with only Dogget and Reyes, would you watch it?

I think I would watch it out of interest but not sure if I'd really be able to enjoy it. I'd be too busy thinking if only the producers had tried a little harder, spent a little more money they could have got David and Gillian to come back

I suppose it would also depend on what I was hearing about the show on the internet. As usual it would air in the US months ahead of the UK so I'd be able to read how it was doing.

And the fact that Mulder and Scully wouldn't be there isn't the only problem. You wouldn't have many of the established characters left with CSM, Krycek and the Lone Gunmen all gone

Good question John.

I think I'd definitely give the show a try. After all I started watching the show way back when, because I liked the stories - the mystery and science mixed together.

I really liked Dogget from the beginning and also Reyes. So, yes. Take these two characters, give the show back the quality it had before Dogget and Reyes were pulled into the boat and I'd definitely watch it.

I would consider it a whole different show though, because X-Files will always be Mulder and Scully for me.

I would watch an episode or two... well, and then decide. The thing is: I love the X Files and I even like Doggett and Reyes, but I didn't really like the episodes without Scully and Mulder... It was nice to know they were still in the big picture... somewhere

Guess I'm a conservative XF girl. Probably wouldn't work for me

I would have to say no. IMHO David and Gillian were such a key element to the show, they built the show up from this little show to what it became. I think that a large part of that was due to the chemistry between them, because even in really, really bad episodes aka "Darkness Falls", "Firewalker", "Teso Dos Bichos" there still was some little gem between them that made you watch.

You think Darkness Falls is a bad episode? I really quite like that wee episode, certainly nowhere near what I would call a 'bad' episode

I make mine MullySculder's words. David and Gillian were the soul of X Files. The show without them wouldn't be the same. It doesn't mean it wouldn't be good, it could be, but it'd be other show, not the real X Files ...

I'd watch, but I agree it wouldn't be the same. I loved Doggett and Reyes, but M/S were the heart of it. And of course like John mentioned, without TLG, CSM, Krycek...gosh, it would feel weird!

Kind of like ER feels to me now. I still watch, but in now way is it the same show it was back in the day...

Exactly - it would be another show. The X-Files cannot be replaced. But I thought Dogget and Reyes were both great characters and given a good new X-Filishy show, I think I'd watch it or at least give it a good chance.

I probably would. I like Doggett and Reyes. Maybe it's just me. Whatever. I couldn't NOT watch, you know?

I agree that it wouldn't be the same without them. Scully and Mulder are the X-Files IMO. I'd rather watch reruns of the early seasons than a new series with different actors.

I would give it a chance. I still view M&S as the absolute heart of XF but if I watched it as a new show then maybe I could get into it. If they brought back some originals (Skinner mostly, and maybe even Kersh) then it could be interesting.

The only thing would be what are they hunting for? For most of XF it was Mulders search for alien lifeforms, and his sister, and that's kind of what drove it. Having said that, if D&R didn't have any great quest it could be a welcome return to MOTW episodes, and from there they could possibly build a solid series.

Yeah that would be nice. In fact to completely get away from the conspiracy storyline they could leave the FBI, move away and set up their own private investigation team.
