I know why he made her smell the ball, he’s on the autism spectrum I am too, and your olfactory senses are just higher. You have the urge to smell things. I had a rubber squishy toy I loved to just smell and I made my sister smell it to ask if it smelled as good as I thought and she was just like Scully, she did as I asked and she didn’t care for the smell But smelling stuff from crime murder scenes is rather gross, Mulder  I love how Scully did it once but she’s definitely not a taste, touch, smell person by her reaction  I love Scully’s way of saying that, not making eye contact and looks like she’s thinking of him affectionately!__________________
