I saw this re-edit of a Mulder & Scully scene that keeps making me laugh. the re-edit makes it look as tho they are thinking about UST possibilities while listening to some mood music in the car. It's all about the meaningful looks and eye contact...

We talked about that before, they have the strongest bound you can think of. After all they have seen, after all they have been through, it's impossible that there will be an other partner in their life. They can try but it won't work out. They would always compare and the other one would always loose. Mulder & Scully will be a couple for the rest of their lives, no matter if they have sex or not. But I'm quite sure Mulder wants this intimacy to come back. You could feel that in S10.

I think it just proves that no matter what they are acting, even if they just look at each other with any kind of tension or energy, it's so easily readable as UST, lol

I like their long lasting opposite sex relationship cause it mirrors real life at least to me. I've had a relationship online with a guy for 11 years which began as long distance bf/gf and even after that didn't move forward, even tho we've met in person, we've been what you could call "best friends" for about 7 years after that, so it's nice for me to see Mulder and Scully maintain such a long trusting relationship despite romance perhaps not working out there is no bad blood between them and they still talk and care. It can totally happen, I've lived this.

(Except in my case, he has a new gf now for 2 years and despite our 11 year relationship/friendship, I'm being "Diana Fowley'd" in a slow burn, lol. I guess it's inevitable sadly cause girl that's a friend doesn't compete with girlfriend! All I can do is sit in my car in a parking garage and look sad now lol )

Of course this can happen and there is nothing bad about it.There are so many kinds of relationships in this world. And IMO the long term romantic relationships, that also include friendship, are the ones with most importance. There are also romantic relationships out there, in which the partner isn't also a friend.
In the case of Mulder & Scully it's totally understandable why it took so long for them to come together, although they startet having feelings for another some time before.
Look at Mulder: He has a good job, is a very attractive guy, I bet many women turn their heads on the streets when he is walking by. But instead of dating he sits at home and watches porn. Mulder is special and he leads a very special and dangerous life. He knows that very well and he also knows that it will propably be no great luck to be the woman at his side. He knows that if he will get more intimate with Scully, what he wishes, then it would mean a great responsibility for him. And he didn't know for a long time if he can take it. He can't risks things easily anymore, because it's not only about his life, it would be about Scully's life too. He would be much more vulnerable. But he betrayed himself, because his inner feelings reached that point long time before. He already is resonsable for her and he already took this resonsibility since her abduction, her cancer desease etc. That's what he realized after their first sex and after the events in the final of season 7. William made this responsability more hugher, because he is now a father. And this resonsibility is also a part of his depression later on. While being his FBI partner Scully lost her fertility and a part of her health. Wiliam isn't born normal, because of the things happened to him and Scully. He promised Scully to protect both of them but he wasn't able to do so. Scully was forced to give William away and he wasn't there. He let her alone with this. Scully got alien DNA and nobody knows what that means. Mulder blames himself a lot for all that because he had the responsibility for all that and he failed. He also wants to take Scully's responsibility to turn it into his. So that she's "free". You can see that quite often in the series. He feels a lot of guilt on his shoulder and it's not easy for him to forgive himself. Scully can talk about it but he can't. But he has too, but he can't do it with Scully.

Sorry this was long

Well I've observed the growth of Scully over 9 years. She used to be closed off and had walls to protect herself in the early days, but you can see as the relationship grew with Mulder she became much more open with expressing her more vulnerable feelings with him. But what you said makes me wonder so Mulder has no outlet to his feelings anymore if he keeps those feelings down? Poor Mulder now! And he was the more open one in the beginning!

I just got a question for anyone who has the series more memorized then me. I read a fanfiction scene where Mulder and Scully shared a moment where they laughed together while traveling in a car. Visualizing that made me actually wonder.... In the show did M&S ever actually laugh together in any scene??? (In gag reels, DD & GA laugh while looking like them, lol, which is weird) but honestly, they've cried together but never openly shared laughter that we've seen? In 9 years? Am I wrong?

For some reason, I can picture Mulder laughing like DD, but I think Scully doesn't laugh like GA, lol

Her evolution as a character still impresses me to this day. I rewatch the season and can see it more. Especially going back and you can KNOW NOW that she turns out the way she does and it's like, "wow, seeing is believing" .

Oh yes they laughed together. In the pilot for example, a really sweet scene.
Yes I indeed believe that Mulder has problems showing his feelings of pain towards Scully. Especially when the topic is William or Scully's health. It's not like the breakdown he had when his mother died, this is different, because I thing he feels great guilt concerning Scully and their son. He couldn't work this out in their relationship (2nd movie) and either could he do in "founder's mutation" or "home again". He didn't talk about it. If Scully would know how he feels, she wouldn't be able to help him, cause this is about her. IMO Mulder needs another person to talk. Well that's my theory...

That's a great question, Leanne. I have a vague sense that M/S may have shared a chuckle here and there, but I guess the line of business they were in must have dampened their sense of humor a bit or they just had a dry sense of humor -with not much laughing accompanying their jokes, especially Mulder. They definitely found other ways to bond of course.
But now, I'm going to be more on the look out for laughing scenes, that's for sure.

Just watched this scene during my S6 rewatch.

I love the confident strut of Mulder and Scully! That's a winning team if I ever saw one, lol

And I came across this one, the height difference cracks me up, I don't know why Mulder isn't the one holding the umbrella, but his Gorilla-like movements are amusing
