Right. They know how to grab the audience.

That’s part of why I still have a soft spot for the mythology episodes, these days the focus seems to be so much on how the MotW’s are the only ones still worth watching, but the mythology episodes generally had such powerful moments for the characters and really got you hyped

I personally prefer the mythology episodes.

I enjoy both, there would definitely be a mixture of MotW and mythology episodss in my top episodes list, it’s just a shame how much the mytharc gets dismissed now because it didn’t add up to anything more coherent in the end. IMO that still doesn’t take away from the intense experience of watching them, especially the earlier ones in seasons 1-4

Well, some of the mythology stories didn't make sense because of all the plot holes CC left which is my only complaint about them. I really like aliens so that's why I prefer them over the MotW episodes.

I liked them because they tended to be more personal to Mulder and Scully, I think I remember David saying that he found them more interesting as an actor too for that reason. For many of the MotWs their personal life’s were not touched upon at all, so it was always kind of cool when an episode like Memento Mori or Duane Barry came along and it was very much centred around their characters

Could never follow them completely though, or explain the plot in detail, especially as you get further into the show But it was an intense experience watching them anyway, especially with the higher budget that they generally got as well when it came to producing epic spaceship shots, incredible stunts etc

That's true and we got to see them bond more as partners.

Who could forget this?

Oh definitely, especially when they started having all those extravagant UFOs.

Love that episode

And people really forget these days that the myth arc was very ahead of its time, the kind of reset version of tv with each MotW being a closed case that is rarely referred to again and you don’t see the after effects carrying over to the next episode at all was more typical 90’s television, but they were really trying something different with setting up a continuing storyline for viewers to follow as well. Especially in the days before dvds when most viewers only caught episodes each week and binge watching wasn’t a thing

That episode was A+, definitely one of the best of the series imo. I love how he knew it wasn't a real moment because she believed it.

I get so emotional seeing how far they came. We went from Scully straight up not believing in the paranormal to saying she did with so much conviction in The Truth.

Scully definitely opened her mind a lot, I think you first saw her starting to be more accepting in late season 7 with episodes like Theef

How so? I don't really remember that episode.

It meant so much to Mulder to make her understand his theories and have her at least entertain the possibilities. But I love how the show took its time and was realistic about making her a believer. I got so much satisfaction when she finally saw a UFO.

I can’t find any clips of the moment on YouTube annoyingly, but I just remember Mulder being pleasantly surprised in that one when Scully is right away suggesting that it could he something supernatural without even being promoted by Mulder. Maybe a hex or something?
