Yeah and the abduction also felt more appropriate to science fiction than just being a fugitive on the run
And season 9 is just weird having Scully without Mulder to work off of! __________________

I think that in a lot of ways season 8 was kind of a return to form, season 7 had a tired feel about it imo, whereas they really got back to the dark and traditionally scary episodes in season 8 and worked hard on making it a good season. It just feels sooo different without having Mulder and Scully working together, so for many viewers it was never going to be a season they enjoyed when Mulder was missing

Yes, season 8 felt more like a typical "dark" mood of X-Files! I think after season 6, it wasn't so dark until 8 again!

Season 8 was actually the only season since the first season not to have any comedy episodes in it

I hadn’t thought about it before either, I just read a book discussing The X-Files recently actually, and it mentioned that which I though was an interesting observation And the author points out that they do go back to having some lighter episodes for season 9, but during season 8 it did seem like there was a concentrated effort to go back to dark and scary only. I guess because the writers were sensitive to the backlash that seasons 6 and 7 comedy episodes came in for

But it’s kind of weird it didn’t, except for season 1 and 8, it seemed the always balanced the serious dark stuff with a “breather” episode or two where it was lighter fare.
The writers actually sometimes interacted online with the fans on the internet and were indeed influenced by the fans’ opinions and ideas. Back when the internet and fandoms were new! __________________

I can't believe a child of Mulder and Scully's is already 18 years old! They grow up fast!!! ( at the Mulder is the dad hashtag)

I think that’s what we’ve all collectively decided to believe now
If they wanted a twist on Mulder not being the Dad/the baby really being CSM’s experiment, then they should have introduced that in season 8 when the story was still developing, not 18 years later when viewers were already invested in William as Mulder and Scully’s child. We reject CC’s canon there __________________

Yeah, not years after and the presumption is they were both parents together, the first thing I thought of when I heard that was “oh no, what about all that fanfiction? “
