X-Files *Season 4* Discussion: there's no place like home, headless guys and newborns with tails.

I was wondering if other X Files fans were as bothered with this 2-parter as I am. I just watched them (on DVD) and at the end of Tunguska (part 1), Mulder is pinned down almost naked with chicken wire stretched over him as black oil/black cancer shoots out of a pipe above him. The black oil invades under his skin and into his eyes seconds later. End of Part 1.
At the start of Terma (part 2), Mulder is dressed and awakens in his cell. A man in the next cell thru a handy hole in the wall, explains he was subjected to black oil/cancer. Mulder barely shows any reaction and continues to ask other questions. Bottom line here, nothing more is said about his situation and Mulder shows zero worry. But by all logic, this is the episode that should have started him searching for a cure. I have more griping about this 2-parter, but I'll stop here for now. Thanks to anyone who is familiar with this.

IMO, it's a classic example of how, in retrospect, many of the mythology episodes actually make no sense at all!

Still,it was fun at the time, and I still love watching it.

Well, I had to think of some stand out moments of season 4

As for the black oil getting into Mulder, I remember hoping they could take THAT interesting places, but then was let down when later, he just seemed cured or normal! I liked the creepy concept of it and yet, the writers didn't really think it out well.

I haven’t watched it since 2016! I don’t know why the black oil didn’t seem to affect Mulder?

Honestly i don’t really follow the mythology that well, I tend to just enjoy the individual episodes as they happen, but don’t ask me to explain any of it

I’m not sure even Chris Carter himself could explain the mythology in detail at this point

I do appreciate the fans who responded because if there WAS something out there in a later episode, I believe one of you would know it. Also in that same episode, an elderly hit man in plain clothes shows up (camera on him and nothing in the background) in the Goddard laboratory and unchallenged, walks into a QUARANTINED room where a researcher (who was infected with black oil while cutting into a volcanic rock) lies open eyed and comatose still in his hazmat gear, and gives him a lethal injection through the suit into his neck...then quietly walks out of the room, just like a nice ol' grandpa. Now that's just plain sloppy.

Yeah, I remember that part too! It’s convenience for tv, I’m guessing! Hey, it was the 90’s and the internet was so young, the writers didn’t have to worry about the fans fussing in twitter, expecting accurate factual storytelling quite yet!

What would everyone’s top five episodes be from season 4?
