Love the title. And thanks for clearing that up. I thought for years that the term 'shipper' did refer exclusively to Mulder and Scully but I wasn't sure when I saw everybody using it.

Yup, we were the first and original "shippers." I'm not really sure when that term was co-opted for any other fan of a romantic relationship.

I'm sure the only reason I don't know this is that I'm relatively new to XF, but where did the term "shipper" come from, anyway?

It's short for Relationshipper, which was the name given to people who wanted Mulder and Scully to be in a relationship. Those who didn't were called NoRoMos (No Romance) and those who weren't sure were called FenceSitters. There was also a division of shippers called FiniShippers who didn't want Mulder and Scully to get together until the end of the series.

I wrote a paper about it in college, so I'm glad I remember what I wrote ;)

That sounds cool. I wish I was asked to write about stuff like that when I was in College.

It was a freshman composition class and we had to write a "definition" paper, so I wrote about the definition of shippers and such. It was great until we had to do peer editing...then I felt like a complete dork ;) But I got an A, so it's all good!
