When I first watched it, yes...Now I'm working my way through the DVDs in English... I really don't mind the dubbed version, but when I et the chance I usually prefer the original

Doesn't it help with English subs ? Or are German subs not available ?
I can't imagine dubbed movies/series in Dutch, I would really hate that. I prefer original speech.

I notice I'm not in the long list.. do I have to do anything special for that ?

That's the great thing about 'smaller' countries, like the Netherlands, or Sweden: they even broadcast stuff in the original version, on TV. At least so I've been told.
When I was young I didn't mind the German dubbing (we call it 'Synchronisation', for some reason....), but now, after a few years in the US, I have learned to vividly hate it.
I mean, it destroys so much of the original feel to a series, or a movie. Especially for the X-files. I mean, Mulder, Scully, Skinner...... You simply can't give them different voices.

Oh, and I bought my DVDs in the US - they therefore have no German subtitles. They have English ones, but hey.....I am too proud to use them anyways.

First of all, I don't know if I said welcome to you Little_Stewie but if I didn't, welcome! You know, I've always wanted to see how the X-Files would sound dubbed in other languages. Spanish, German, Japanese - whatever. I'm just so curious to hear how they sound. I'm sure they're not totally off from the original English voice.

So to whoever would like to answer, how do they sound in German or France (if any of you have seen it dubbed in French?)

You know, I remember seeing a few dubbed samples, as extras on the S1 DVD's. At least in my 'Collector's edition' box, the heavy one.
The German voices sound really hilarious, I had almost forgotten about them.

I don't remember which, but there were samples from other countries as well, check it out.

How do they handle it when there's a character talking German? I think the German language is spoken in a few episodes. I know there's this one episode, Die Hand Die Verletzt with the devil lady in the school... I think it's German she chants... I hope it is! If not, sorry for misinterpreting it.

And when you say funny, is it funny "ha ha" or funny "ho ho"? (Okay, I'm sure you won't understand that. Nevermind. I'm sure their German voices sound at least a bit like their US counterparts. German Mulder doesn't mumble much, so that's good! )

Well, I don't mind the dubbed versions, because they do it really well here. They chose the actors very carefully and the script writers are amazing - even with sitcoms!
I have had this debate before and I just think with the amount of foreign films and TV shows we have it would be like foreign inflitration if we had it all only in the respective laguage. I would very much appreciate it if we had the choice though - like when ARD and ZDF used the two audio channels to let people decide which language they wanted a few years back. That was nice

And Scully's German voice is still such a big hit here She's one busy woman. You hear her everywhere... usually documentary stuff and the shows where they tell you about murder and how the police solved the cases etc
I remember that Gillian said she thought her German voice was kinda sexy and that she wanted to try and sound little more like her

They did that??? When?
I was always desperately waiting for that.... It's called 'Zweikanalton', no?
As far as I know they only do that rarely, for special programming.

Really?

Actually, what bothers me about these German voices is exactly what you mention: the same actor speaks many characters from many different shows, or movies..... It's like a deja-vu, every time.... Not so great, IMO.
But hey, I like to complain.
