Season One in a Nutshell
An understanding of the characters and plot isn't truly necessary when it comes to a situation comedy such as Arrested Development. I never made an effort to watch it last season for reasons I am aware of, but I'll feel guilty if I don't support it this time around, so anyone care to inform me of the gist of season one and the characters?

Well, like you said, you don't need to know too much to understand the comedy, and most of the time, the narrator, Ron Howard, will do a quick recap when it's necessary to a plot point, and we get cool flashbacks scenes.
The gist of the show, without getting to spoilery, is that the Bluth family were wealthy and spoiled, until the dad, George Sr., got sent to jail and his land development company is being investigated for fraud and stuff. George's son Michael, played by Jason Bateman, is the responsible son who's trying to turn the business around and take care of the family, but Michael's not getting much help from his mother Lucille, his older brother GOB, his twin sister Lindsay, and his younger brother Buster. Michael also has a teenage son named George Michael, and Lindsay is married to a closeted gay guy named Tobias Funke and they have a daughter named Maeby. The comedy is all about the screwed up family and business dealings. A few major plots from season 1 were about Michael being in love with GOB's girlfriend Marta, George Michael having a crush on his cousin Maeby, and Buster dating his mother's best friend Lucille II, played by Liza Minelli. __________________

BTW, I saw on the-op.com's schedule that there's no more season 1 reruns on Fox until October. What a long month this is going to be! __________________
