Ok, so ship bashing is allowed in the anti-threads to a certain extent? But slight character bashing isn't allowed in a shipper thread even if the character is part of that ship (eg Kate bashing in the Hoolie thread)?

Woah! I've been busy this week with 'real-life' so I've not been able to come on here.. I wasn't really aware of any problems, not on the Hoolies thread anyway.

To be honest, I don't see the fuss over someone bashing my favourite tv couple or even my favourite character. I don't mind it at all, after all it's not like they are being mean about me or a member of my family. It's only a tv show. (*ducks from the rocks being thrown at her*) I am not easily offended though, and I realise some people are.

I think the problem lies in the definition of bashing..sometimes I think some people think that when anything negative about their favourite character is said, then that's bashing. However, there is nothing wrong with constructive criticism and a little bit of debate. Another one of my opinions is that everyone has a different sense of humour, and sometimes when someone posts something that is meant to be a joke, it is not understood in that context by others. There have been many problems with this on the Hoolie thread, in my opinion. (e.g. about Jack's 'Jears' or saying something like "I could have strangled Kate after that scene")

I may not agree with the rules, I think they're slightly harsh but I am not a mod and I appreciate that Liz and Katie are doing what they think is best for the board, so... I will do my best to follow the rules and learn to love them.

By "ships" you seem to mean shippers. Bashing a ship and bashing the shippers are two different things. You can allow one without allowing the other.

I've been part of anti-ship threads on popular boards and of appreciation threads for ships which have had unappreciation threads. And while there's sometimes been troubles, like on any type of thread, overall people weren't getting all offended and worked up. Things went smoothly.

Not every board is the OTH board, not every board is going to function that way. I know boards where anti-ship threads have functioned smoothly for years.

Again, by "ships" you seem to mean shippers. Bashing a ship and bashing the shippers are two totally different things and having one doesn't have to mean having the other. You just put a very firm ban on bashing the shippers. I've seen that work in practice.

Katie and Liz Whoa! I'm so sorry to see this one up here. We've had quite ups and downs before, too but not to the extent that we'll have this policy. I think both of you are doing a great job here at the Lost Board.

I don't remember the last time I read an entire thread here but I just did now.

Well said, hon. Yes, we do promote freedom of speech on this board, but when it comes to desicion-making, please let the mods decide on it. I'm sure Liz and Katie are only doing it for the best of the board.

I agree. Anti-ships will be just a subtle way to extend the pro-ship thread. Say for example, I opened an Anti-Sayid/Shannon Thread, posters might come in and say Boone/Shannon is better... so there you go! It's the new Shoone Thread disguising as an anti thread.

I totally agree, Katie, especially about the titles, I've lurked here and seen some titles which are so blatantly bashing another ship, I don't mind debating of ships, comparisons or anything like that but it's just petty comments or thread titles that annoy me and have stopped me from posting here in the past. I'm glad you're taking steps, although it's a shame it had to come to this, Jaters don't go in Skate threads and vice-versa, it's pointless and you're bound to disagree with everything said there.

I agree. Ship wars are pathetic and the people who encourage this kind of behaviour are the most pathetic. For me it ruins the nice enviorement of a board to the point I have to avoid general topics because people can't control themselves and be respectful.

I'm tired of people bashing Jack. He's my favorite character and some comments really bother me. I don't bash characters just because and I try to be respectful. When my favorite couple is not together I don't attack the ship, the characters or worse, their fans. Instead I support my ship without spreading hate.
