I think that's a little judgemental People ship actors all the time, it's not that weird. It's all in good fun! It's a matter of opinion, everyone's entitled to their own. The important thing is to stick to the rules no matter what, and in that case, as long as they're not bashing anyone (like Matt's wife and Dom) than there's nothing wrong with it, IMHO

I absolutely agree with this. One of my main OTPs is a real life (non)couple and as slightly disturbing it might seem for outsiders (people who unlike me don't have fandom life online ) I don't see anything wrong with fantasizing about 2 people together. I see no harm in such fantasies. Except if there's a bashing of their respective rl partners that enters this game which is not only disrespectful but also totally unfair to all the parts. As long as people don't cross some lines I don't see anything wrong with that.
But it also would be nice if such threads were more "friendship" opened for the people who enjoy their friendship without the need of putting them into a romantic context

Our "friendship" thread was never a friendship thread, and we've never claimed it - that's why it doesn't say "Mavie friendship thread" at the title. The majorty of the posters in it would like to see more than a friendship there in another world. We had some people there who only liked their friendship who with time stopped posting. One of them actually still posts and never complains that we're getting too weird or creep her out. The only reason I said she shouldn't lurk is because I know for a fact she's not a fan of the couple I was talking about. By all means, we welcome people to the thread and if they make it clear they're only there for their friendship we try to make it as comfortable as possible for them.
I can't please everyone, and if someone who isn't even posting at the thread I'm talking about think I'm creepy and weird - by all means. I won't edit my posts in that specific thread to please them, though.

We don't count the Mavie thread as a romance thread, but just because some people might only want to ship their friendship doesn't mean we should stop all "beyond talks" just to make it more open to everyone, especially when we do discuss their friendship as well.

I just don't get why all of a sudden everybody reminded to backlash on us Maviers.

I'm sorry but when exactly did someone pointed you out and said "you're creepy, your posts are creepy, they offend me, edit them"? From what I gathered it was a general statement that some people might feel unwelcome or uncomfortable if they don't ship some people together in a romantic way. That's all. Nothing more, nothing less. The problem isn't the daydreaming about 2 actors who aren't romantically linked, it's the way their rl partners might be treated in such daydreaming. That's the only factor that should be controlled. Not the fantasies about these 2 getting together and whatever that implies but just staying away from including their poor real life partners in a manner that might be offensive to everybody included in such fantasy.

ok everything has got a bit intense and people are reading in to things way too much. with the shipper threads yes thibgs may get said about the other ships but the majority of the time there only a quick reference or a joke theres no harm by it. I do agree with the strike thing when it comes to pages and pages of conversation about a couple who is not the ship and its all about poking fun at the them because what is the need for that really, what is it going to achieve other than annoying that particular ship, and i have seen this happen.

As for the 'freindship' threads its not about being horrible and wishing bad things for the real relationships its just us all speculating as to what we think we see and what would happen if they werent in these relationships thats all its not to be taken serious. Even if there partners were to see whats wrote in the thread im sure they would laugh it off beause they know its not serious, they would proberly laugh thinking weve come up with what they would see as such rubbish, my god there are worse things going on out there in the world than for them to be worring about this

as for the whole skaters are generally older and so jaters might not get the jokes i do not believe this is true. Age does not mean you have a certain type of sense of humour and i am 21 which fits in to the age group that was mentioned that skaters are and i do not read things the same way they do and the one clear reason fot that is that i am a jate shipper its nothing to do with age.

Some people here said that the thread creeps them out and another said the the threads are getting weird. I'm sorry, but we are the thread. The posters are the thread, and apparently, our posts our creepy and weird.
Once again, it's not like all we do is plot an evil plan to make them leave their significant others for each other - we do make stabs about them some times but I don't think any of us takes or reads into it too seriously. I get that if you're not a poster in the thread you won't get that and that's fine - but from that to making accusations is a long way.
We have never ever wished for one of them to suffer personally or anything like that, and if that was the cast then yes - in that place even shutting down the thread would've been in order. I just find it odd that all of a sudden, 18 months later you guys remember to complain.

As for what Sinead commented about the age range and Skaters humor vs. Jaters humor, I'm 23, sarcastic as hell, and still don't find it amusing. If it comes from Jaters about Jaters, sure. But just like you wouldn't want us to write sarcastic Skaters comments in our titles, we don't want you to write Jaters comments.

Hi Everyone!

Little late here! I think Kate and Liz are doing an unbelievable job! and I think the Three strikes Policy is a great idea.

I don't really want to touch on the Mavie issue so much just about the exaggeration that it was the "creepiest thing ever" or whatever was mentioned previously. It's not weird. It's people's oppinions and while I may be on the shipper thread since I do ship them as friends ... it's simply an Alternate Reality and shouldn't be taken so seriously.

Unfortunately, this policy had to be initiated because of it. Not even just with the shipper threads but with "Jears". The avatar thread is for everybody and I was hurt that it was becoming anti-Jack. (I love him! ) but please, we should all just make more of an effort. We can all respect each other! Nobody has to change their oppinions...we just have to stop lashing at each other.
Now, we should just talk together because some things that were stated on this thread, I found a little weird myself:

Age demographics for shippers? I must have missed something! Guess I'm in the Skater age range! My age isn't a jater apparently! No, let's just not stereotype for real people. That's just not a good idea. Shipping ages have nothing to do with anything. It's just a stupid arguement you are going to lose.

Bottom line, I do respect Skate very much and I just hope it can be given the same amount back without any ties to age or statements about lack of senses of humor when we're on a message board. Nobody really knows what anyone's sense of humor is like. Now that's kind of creepy!

As for the actor shipper threads, I post in the Monalilly thread all the time and no one in that thread has ever had problems with what happens in the Mavie thread and vice versa. I don't think it is an issue at all. If people don't want to ship actors because they aren't a real couple then I don't see why they just can't go in the thread.

Okay I didn't know the fuss that a comment of mine would bring (I had to go to a class so I am only reading now). First of all there is a big difference between age and maturity, so I don't think when I say people are young this is a bad thing. When I was a Mulder and Scully shipper I was around 12-14; I also shipped the actors, I squee all the time (Okay, gotta admit, I still squee); I was way more touchy than I am these days and with time I learn how to not take seriously some things and to develop a think for snark... So yeah, I don't have statistics of the ages in here, but I do have a tedency of notice posts that are clearly posts of younger people; So I am taking in the context of many other boards I visit, not this one. It is a subjective thing I notice, not a fact. So yeah, you can believe whatever you want but I wasn't bashing anyone, there is younger people I know that are way more mature than older people I know, so maybe I just express myself poorly and everyone is jumping the gun taking as a personal offense. And as they say, there is exception to all rules and we wouldn't be able to know the ages unless we did a statistical study... (If I recall, my epidemiology classes happens years ago so I dunno... it was very boring subject).

So there is no way I can get the people's age, but it is just a pattern I notice (pattern this that is subjective).

I rest my case, I won't bring this subject again since it is so touchy for some.

Katie & Liz - I'm glad to see something is being done about the negativity from the posters at this board. It must be frustrating to countless issue warnings to posters on a regular basis. This will cement this for you, and it sounds like it will bring some order to this board. One of the reasons I don't really post here, I feel the two shipper threads take over the board, and honestly, I am not a fan of Lost for either couples. Personally, I'm all about the mystery and the character's journey then who ends up together.

I'm glad you found a good way to keep the shipper-wars at bay. I've been on this board for a while now and I can definitely see the fighting between the two shipper groups. Great job taking charge and keep up the fantastic work
