Ugh, can't they just give the writers what they want?! It can't really be this difficult to come to a agreement! I want my Lost back, all 16 episodes!

It's not sounding good.

From Gregg Nations at The Fuselage...

They want to fracture the guild and have members start to fight each other. They want to know the WGA bottom line and then only offer a quarter of it. They want to break the writers' backs.

But it's not going to happen.

The membership is resolute. It is united. So pull out your best rallying the troops speech (there are some really great ones in Lord of the Rings) and enjoy the battle. Everyone knows this is not a fight for the here and now, it's a fight for the future. There is a lot at stake, and no side is backing down.

United Hollywood: Carlton Cuse Speaks Out in Letter to Members

Quote:
The following letter was written by Carlton Cuse and sent today to members of the WGA. His candor and honesty are deeply appreciated by all of us here at UH. The AMPTP is counting on us becoming more divided as time goes on. But we believe the opposite will happen -- is happening, right now. We are staying strong.

To my fellow WGA Members,

I want to clear up any misunderstanding about where I stand.

On November 16 I, regretably, was quoted by a Wall Street Journal reporter saying I was going to perform some of my non-writing, post-production duties on episodes of LOST to protect the show for the fans. However, I'm sure to the delight of the AMPTP, my statement became the story and gave the false impression that there was disunity among showrunners over the issues of this negotiation.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Every showrunner I know, whether producing or not producing, stands in full support of the goals of our guild.

For the past two months I have been working seven days a week on these negotiations alongside my fellow negotiating committee members.

As a committee we did everything we could to get both parties back to the bargaining table this last week. We were fully prepared to enter into the kinds of back-and-forth discussions that are necessary to reach any sort of labor deal. I sincerely hoped this return to the table would lead to real progress.

I was wrong.

In fact, given the events of last Thursday -- and where things currently stand -- I can no longer in good conscience continue to work on my show in any capacity.

What I will be doing is continuing my work as a member of the committee for as long as it takes, contributing in any way I can, to get us the fair and just deal that we must have.

It's going to be an arduous fight.

But make no mistake -- we are united, we are resolute...

And we are indeed ALL IN THIS TOGETHER.

Yours,

Carlton Cuse

The DVD party was cancelled.

And now...

TV Critics' Assn. press tour is off -

So, no news/spoilers/info/pics coming from this event this year

I got my DVD set today! I watched all the extras... And I can't wait to re-watch the season. There are so many great stand-alone episodes in S3, it'll be fun to revisit.

Exclusive: Lost Abandoning Wednesday?

Lost has found a new time slot.

As I reported in today's Ask Ausiello, ABC is expected to unveil its strike-proofed midseason schedule within hours, if not minutes. And although the contents of said schedule are being guarded more closely than the secret of the islanders' escape, multiple sources who have seen an early draft of the document tell me that the big news concerns Lost.

Mind you, the lineup has not yet been finalized, but according to this early draft, the network has decided to air the eight completed episodes beginning in February. However, they won't be airing on Wednesday nights. I haven't been able to find out which night the show is moving to, but when I do, you know you'll be the first second seventh to know.

As you'll recall, it was the wish of Team Darlton that ABC not air its remaining in-the-can eppies. If that happened, Carlton Cuse suggested, "It will feel a little like reading half a Harry Potter novel, then having to put it down. There is a mini-cliff-hanger at the end of Episode 8, but it's like the end of an exciting book chapter, it's not the end of the novel."

Still, Cuse acknowledged that the choice wouldn't be his or Damon's. "It's really [ABC honcho] Steve MacPherson's call," he said, adding, "No one was happy with the six-episode run last season."

Of course, we might be even unhappier having to wait months and months for the strike to end and new installments to be written. So maybe this is, in the worst of times, a good thing? What do you think? And where, if not Wednesdays, on the schedule would you drop Lost? All you armchair network execs, this is your big chance. Show me what you've got!

These DVD sets better be half off if they are only having like 8-10 episodes as a season... that's all I'm sayin'

Damn... I'm dying to know the timeslot. I just hope it's earlier.

Fresh LOST Returns
To ABC Next Month!!
I am - Hercules!!
ABC will begin airing new fourth-season episodes of "Lost" Jan. 31.

Many speculated fresh "Lost" might remain lost until next fall in the event of a long strike. ABC's move to schedule "Lost" at midseason defies the preferences of showrunners Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof, who did not think the last episode of "Lost" scripted before the writers' strike made for the best of season finales.

Locke, Hurley, Kate, et al will be taking up regular residence away from Wednesday night for the first time. They'll now be replacing the incorrigible Dr. McSteamy & Co. by inheriting the "Grey's Anatomy" timeslot at 9 p.m. Thursday (where they are certain to crush NBC's "Celebrity Apprentice").

ABC's new drama "Eli Stone," from a bunch of the guys behind "Brothers & Sisters," will follow at 10 p.m. Thursdays, replacing the Christopher Titus crapfest "Big Shots." "Stone" is a about a thirtysomething attorney (Jonny Lee Miller) who finds himself plagued with "visions" that take him in not-always-lawyerly directions.

"Lost's" old Wednesdays-At-10 timeslot will be taken over by "Cashmere Mafia," based on the book by Candace Bushnell ("Sex and the City") and featuring the work of white-hot striking screenwriter Sarah Watson ("Standoff").

I'm glad we finally got an announcement. Now we have something to look forward to.

ETA: Gregg Nations posted this in his VIP section at The Fuselage

Thus, the season three DVD launch promotion was cancelled. No TCA in January. And no season four promo interviews.

If Damon and Carlton aren't answering questions and doing interviews, I certainly don't want to be the only one answering questions. A lot of people read this VIP question area since I'm usually active in it, so I don't want any answers I write to appear in any other media outlet as official comments on the fourth season. It's like the strike has extended radio silence, which I know is sooooo popular with everyone in the first place.

I know it's disappointing and I don't like being the bearer of bad news, but I did want to let everyone know what was going on. I hope you understand.

Thank you for all your support during the strike. It really means a lot to the writers and to me personally. And of course thank you for your continued support of the show. There are many exciting things awaiting you starting January 31.

Take care. Merry Christmas. Please have a safe and warm holiday and new year.

Gah! No interviews?! I wonder if that means actors too.

I'm so sick of this strike. They need to resolve this whole thing soon.
