 Thanks, Ali! Those are just so pretty!Ok, Antonella, short recap: On island, Juliet is worried about their whole life falling apart, which is the scene where these caps come from. Sawyer tries to reassure her that it's not but Horace interrupts, saying they have a problem with Sayid. Sawyer gives Sayid a few different options - at first he suggests Sayid joins the DI, then he tries to help him escape later on. None of these things Sayid accepts. The DI people vote that Sayid should be put to death, and Sawyer has to go along with them. But before it can happen, there's a huge fire in Dharmaville. Young Ben set the fire to create a diversion, and he and sets Sayid free, hoping to go join the Others with him. I won't tell you the end, because it would be a lot better if you aren't spoiled for it! The flashbacks deal with Sayid getting onto flight 315 with Ilana. There's also the Kate-Juliet scene, where Juliet is relieved Kate found out about her and James, since she didn't want to have to tell Kate and make it seem like she was telling Kate to stay away. __________________

I loved those pictures. I love how he's assuring her that they're not "playing house", that what they have is real. Sawyer told Sayid that he has a good life there and if he isn't careful, all of it goes away, including Juliet. |

Annoyed because "Lost" has always been hopelessly retrograde about gender relations: if a man and woman exchange more than four lines of dialogue, surely one if not both of them will fall in love. And the female characters, with the luminous exception of Sun, are mere props driving male action, with no agency of their own. (Remember when Kate actually had useful skills and an attitude, for perhaps half a season, before they turned her into Tropical Island Barbie?) Delighted because in this case, it actually made organic sense: Sawyer, from the beginning, had an odd respect for Juliet. He never nicknamed her, and she was the only person who could calm and redirect him, like some kind of Redneck Whisperer. Many people find Elizabeth Mitchell's acting wooden; I don't. Juliet is numb and beaten to the core, and Ms. Mitchell personifies both that hollowness and the brilliance, charisma, and caring that still, somehow, burn inside that shattered lamp. Little wonder that Juliet finds comfort in domestic chores and small pleasures, in fixing machines, predictable machines that never weep or beg, and in living with a man who values her wisdom, not just her knowledge. A man who holds her broken self in place like a cast holds a broken limb. And Sawyer--who knew?--is that man. |

Aww, cute! Thanks for bringing that over, Maisie!
I liked how the used the phrase 'playing house' again. In S4, Kate said, rather contemptuously, that she didn't want to play house with Sawyer. But Juliet has been happily playing house with him for the past three years. It really highlights how perfect Juliet and James are for each other! __________________
